So lovely to see how young filipinos are embracing the filipino kubo design. Enough of the western influence designs which is not applicable to our hot, humid weather. Such a dreamy house.

Their story is very inspiring! We all know what Ukraine had experienced against Russia and for a Filipina married to a Ukrainian, their story is really something worth sharing. Now, her husband is experiencing life in the Philippines where everything is not perfect but when it comes to family ties, this country is one of the unbeatable out there! I hope that their kiddo will grow as a great person just like his parents where love really matters. God bless their family. :)
PS: This Bahay Kubo is really aesthetically pleasing to the eyes!

there is nothing wrong in adopting certain architectural or building construction elements from the west. Concrete comes from the west but we use it as a building material. The Spanish or ancestral houses that were built has elements from the bahay kubo.

Wow! This is the kind of bahay kubo in my mind I really wanted it for a short staycation, planning to build like a kitchen with open living room on the main floor. But the thing is during the storm or typhoon I was thinking to put a cover that you can roll up and down just to avoid the rain coming inside.

In design, it's not always about how beautiful the structure is, it's about how it will work efficiently. The bahay kubo is a manifestation of how beautiful our culture and traditions are. Back then, the design of the structure may have worked; But as time changes (whatever technology we have) it may not work in the current times because the needs of the people changed too. There are also environmental changes that need to be addressed. In my humble opinion, what these beautiful structure need is protection from the rainy season especially the "silong" part of the house. It may be a challenge for the owner on how to address that, but I believe it will be worth it in the long run for them to save more money because of the humongous cost of repairs and renovation. 😊

    • @pandecocojam
      @pandecocojam 10 месяцев назад +3

Treated bamboo ang ginagamit for most modern home builds like this. There are bamboo treatment plants in Batangas and other areas. Treated bamboo doesn't rot for at least 20 years or more. It's the same principle for outdoor bamboo furniture. The cement bamboo frame is also typhoon tested. DOST tested cement bamboo frame houses and they withstood severe typhoons (cyclone signal 4).

I’m not being epal but from a modern bahay kubo enthusiast, here’s my point of view: Looks nice and relaxing but I’m not sure if the owners considered the forces of nature when building this house. Very open yung space sa baba, paano mga lamok at mga insekto, not to mention mga daga. I suggest planting some trees around the house to shield you from elements. Masyadong open, for sure salo nyo lahat ng alikabok, init, at ulan.

Such a beautiful home. Loved the living area and kitchen ,open on all 4 sides to welcome the breeze and natural light.
The room upstairs commands such a sweeping view. Loved it. Just sitting there by the window and looking out at the endless greenery outside is so soothing.
Only doubt ....what happens during the rainy season.
Wont the kitchen and living area get completely wet?
How strong is its bamboo exterior?
Can the cane work resist the fury of the monsoons?
Except for this aspect, this house is like paradise.
Thank you for this home tour. Enjoyed it so much.

I am not sure though how hot it gets or how humid it can be during the peak summer months there in San Juan. Or how fierce the storms can get during the stormy months. It looks very open to me. How is the protection from the strong rains and very strong winds given the very open space and lots of trees nearby?

I don't call this a "bahay kubo". Actually it's a two story house, very nice inside, very spacious and comfortable. Bahay kubo is sometimes called "nipa hut" built with dry and matured nipa leaves with bamboo.

Bahay kubo is only a temporary house and is good only in summer. During rainy season if it's windy and with typhoon your balcony and the ground floor will become wet. Hence the bamboo will rot easily.

Hi. This is also what I want to built but I cannot fine a structural Engr. to provide a structural analysis for a wooden two story house. Can you refer me to your architect maybe they can design a similar house for me complete with structural analysis. Thanks.

I love it don't get me wrong. My only issue is if rains or worst if there is a Typhoon. What happens then? Flooding isn't gonna be so bad because I see that the house is quite elevated.

Nice and cosy, how about when you have a typhoon, do you feel it’s going to withstand the force of nature ?
