Amazing. Is there any off the shelf gear that can do any of this stuff?

I enjoyed EME with an OFF-THE-SHELF Dual Band Kenwood transceiver with both 2 Meters and 70 Centimeters.
If you don't feel like making your own antennas, you can buy a YAGI or a Helical antenna in your preferred frequency band. Then mount the antenna on a tripod, aim it at the Moon connect the radio, and put out your call sign! You can do it without a tripod, but you'll have the tripod for your second EME! Join a local Ham Club they will help you get your license, and you can participate in their outings and events until you get a feel for what you like best.

@@251omega thanks for the reply. I’ve actually gone pretty far down the eme rabbit hole since I made this comment two years ago. I made three eme QSOs on 23cm just a couple weeks ago.

@@Cheeseoverdose Yeah, just as I posted my comment, I noticed your comment was 2 years old. But, then I figured that there will be others who could use the info.
---> 23cm - I am turning 72 on Tuesday, I can't afford the up-keep on the longer bands, let alone go into the GHz ranges. Back in the day, they were just starting to open up 10GHz, Now it's amazing with 275GHz and higher. Gone are the days when I was going to modify my Microwave Oven with homemade waveguides and horn, etc. to try out 23 cm. It's probably not possible, but I liked lighting up florescent tubes in my microwave classes! Keep on enjoying experimenting with radio, BillO AD7NA

So this is a ridiculous question as a new ham, KD9PBQ, you mentioned not looking into the rifle scope at the sun. What about bouncing off the sun? Is that even possible or too much interference? What about Venus?

The sun is too far away. As is Venus.
