redo the sid fork . it's supposed to be air charged. i had a duke xc fork and it was lite and quiet. best advice ; go with a 100mm coil/oil fork .

Replacing the handlebar with a 740mm or wider will do wonders for that 90s mtb. I did and I have so much more control.

Scary to have that much power to turn those little wheels though 🤣

I raced the Mt. Snow Vt. World Cup DH on a homegrown. So… it was a downhill bike. Fun to watch. Great vid!

Love them still! Great single speeder with new school build and a 27.5+ish front end. Rigid fork even. A great climber as always, and kooky in a good way. Cheers

The homegrown straight six with a pull link was a DH bike with a totally different suspension design, the one featured in the video was aimed at XC but the design was crap, even back then review were very poor...

This is good stuff and is actually a fantastic video! How does it only have 2.2k views in 10 months? The “RUclips gods” should be much kinder to you guys imo

First I’m a little irritated cause when I was at your shop, I was like “ that’s awesome!” Seeing the Schwinn on the wall. I had one. I loved it. Immediately after saying it was awesome, someone working there commented that “it rode like crap and was a piece of junk” it pissed me off. I got a tshirt to say I had been there and took the rest of my business to sycamore cycle. Glad to see someone at the shop appreciates the old school bikes that paved the way for modern bikes.
Upgrades, the fork definitely needs refresh or changed to a white brothers or marzocchi. And a shorter stem and wider handle bars might help. But outside of that it’s perfect. Depending on the model, you could run disc brakes but it only worked with specific calipers or adapters in the back.

Lol yeah it looks small on him. But I really like the look of this bike. Like a 90s Cherokee with cool suspension. But until 2010 almost 26 inch tires were still the norm it’s not that crazy but this old fork and the small frame. Good vid.

Just for the fun of it, I recently picked up a 1988 Rockhopper Comp. It's like takin' a trip with a time machine.

I am fully engaged in this video and conversation. I just picked up a 99 homegrown full suspension. I got a tuneup on it and new tires. The bike was never ridden and is like new. I’m interested in seeing what more you can do to your particular model because mine is similar.

I've built them up new school. 27.5 up front- mini mullet, modern drive train, etc. They rock like Led Zeppelin.

Looks like you had already made up your mind on the bike before the first pedal stroke. Yes it isn't a modern bike and isn't going to ride like on. You should service the fork and it will function a lot better. you set yourself up for failure by doing very little to the bike before taking it out the trails. It will never perform like a new bike, but with basic service that you should do to any 30 year old bike before riding it it would have performed better. If you gave it a fair shake I think you would have been impressed at how well a 30 year old design actually holds up.

You are laughing that the suspension only works when the rider is seated and otherwise it's like a hardtail. So ancient and inefficient. Yet... Specialized has just re-discovered that crap and calls this the best ever invention on their new Diverge STR (Suspend The Rider) for an astronomical price tag!

Everybody looking at 90s downhill racing going _"aahw, cute!"_ with a smurk on their faces - but make'em go ride one of these things (pinning it!) and they'll start popping cus words they never knew existed!
