Awesome video. Super helpful tips. Just got myself a 1995 RG505, feeling inspired to give it a bit of tlc.

Ben knows his shit! He's so right about not over tightening the bolts, especially the locking nut clamps on those older Universes.. they don't make those nuts anymore and haven't in a very long time, so once you stripped the threads you're fucked and it costs like $200 for a replacement nut if you can find one.

My jaw dropped when he went to work on this bad bitch.

i had that same guitar orange colored no doubt sand diego 91’ traded it in for a white strat, then traded the strat for a les paul which is on a stand next to the bed right now, that
old ibanez had a great fretboard, so long ago…

This was absolutely fascinating, get some cool colored knobs and maybe a pickup selector tip and you are good to go, that thing is a beauty.

We're fucking off middle pick up, we went halves on an HH matte black pickguard off Perle, Ben bought purple knobs, and killswitch is replacing tone knob.

@@dougsteeleguitar Damn, see I love using the middle pickup to get those split tones for the bridge and neck, I would just lower the middle and keep the current pickguard, I love the color, but you guys do you, I am shocked black hawks aren't going in.

@@TheGreatBaronOBeefDip I Just don't get why he ALWAYS USES Black Hawks....I like variety....Air Norton is more of a higher output than the Black Hawks...17.3 as opposed to 8.6 for the BH"s.....they are kinda like the clarity of an active pickup but passive...hey ...whatever you like....nice to see Ben wanting to keep the Air Norton tho.....

No need to remove the Trem again to lower the Bridge height. Small Allen Key down the inside of the post allows adjustment

this should be mandatory viewing if you buy one of these, i got a 1990 in laser blue stock, locking nut had been cranked hard over its life (still works thank fuck) but the trem arm holder had split and came clean off after removing the arm a couple times. replaced with a magik arm instead, no bushings and stays tight, screws right in. they fucken play themselves once you set them up right, and easily the best floating trem system to boot. even with stock pickups it sounds like a screaming 80s machine through my ADA MP-1
looks like the original owner of this one was a petrucci fan, the JPM100 had air norton neck/steves special bridge with a coil split like that but in HXH config

Ok, I'm calling Ben out! Why does he oil the maple fret board? It's already finished, and does not need oil like rosewood or ebony. Is it just to clean the board up?
