Lyrics:
I'm beginnin' to hear voices and there's no one around
I'm all used up and the fields have turned brown
I went to church on Sunday as she passed by
And my love for her has taken such a long time to die
Well, I'm waist deep, waist deep in the mist
It's almost like, almost like, I don't exist
I'm twenty miles out of town, Cold Irons bound.
Well, the walls of pride are high and wide
Can't see over to the other side
It's such a sad thing to see beauty decay
It's sadder still to feel your heart turn away
One look at you and I'm out of control
Like the universe has swallowed me whole
I'm twenty miles out of town and Cold Irons bound.
Bob Dylan is a rare artist that has managed to transcend genre to become a universally praised songwriter, performer and musician of the 20th- and 21st-centuries. Starting out as a chronicler of social issues in the 1960s, Dylan has had true staying power with thirty-two studio albums released in 53 years â the most recent of which is 2015's critically acclaimed Shadows in the Night.
This is approximately the 40eleventh time I’ve watched this performance. The groove is still new and it’s scent is still fresh. Bless your heart Mr. Zimmerman.
I’m at about 12. Good work.
@@jamesm.3967 I'm about near the heat death of the cosmos on my count.
And that voice is like gravel in a shoebox , I dig it.

💯% Same❤️
I think this was Bob's best band lineup ever (even though The Band, The Dead, and The Heartbreakers were pretty darn good too). Larry, Charlie, Tony, and George only played together for a couple of years as I recall, but their shows were simply astonishing. Not only were the playlists changing all the time covering an amazing range of Bob's catalog, but the arrangements of individual songs varied damn near every show. It took an incredible group of musicians to pull it off. This video shows how tight they were.
And how 'close' they were. Great staging!
Yeah. This is a gem. If it were any Joe Shmoe performing this song it would be exceptional, the fact that it’s Bob , at 62, makes it something entirely transcendent.
Imagine if he played with the Beatles back in the day
Totally agree...
It’s blues…yet there traditional notes aren’t there. And yet…it’s blues 🤯
Old Bobbyshows the kids how to make a rock video - no gimmicks, no lights, no messing. One tight shot and let the band do the talking. Class A plus
The magic of Bob never ends. It just ferments like fine wine.
So true.old is gold.respect the gentleman named Zimmerman bob Dylan. Legend forever ❤️
Love this video!! Can't watch it enough...I'm75 and have been listening to Bob for 60 years and have loved every minute.
I’m 48 , and Bob has been a sign post on the road of life for 35 years.
This is without a doubt the best version of "Cold Irons Bound," definitely superior to the studio version. It's more (in)tense and cutting, with a slightly faster tempo better suited to the song, and Dylan's vocal is passionate and fully committed. I was fortunate to see this band several times during the late 1990s and they were consistently fantastic. Campbell and Sexton on guitar are hard to top, and the same can be said of Garnier and Recili as a rhythm section. I never get tired of listening to this.
I question. Studio better imo. This is good but I prefer more smolder.
Agreed...so much better than the original album version.....It really really rocks and really really rolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me too
You're totally right.

Easily one of the greatest music video clips of all time.
Well, he invented the music video.
@@revolve830 perhaps, but this is best one he's ever done
I wonder if people know it’s a song told through the perspective of Jesus pleading with his church?
Dylan puts the coolest of bands together...this performance is phenomenally good.... thanks for posting!
It just doesn't get any better. I love how Dylan is so deadpan, but can't help but get into the groove at the end. The kick on the "and" of two is incredibly original and moving, as is the instrumental break before every verse. It's as good as Rolling Stone, IMHO.
not only is the song great, but I love the way the band is positioned. tight. barely in frame. no camera moves. brilliant.
that's all they need - forget flashy MTV video tricks, quick shots, just turn the camera on and let the boys play!
I agree that that's all they need, but we know for sure that more animated bands in videos tend to get more sales/clicks.
I like this video because it's different.
I want to know what Bob said to the guitarist behind him.
Richard Bock But we can't see the keyboardist.

"Tight" does not even come close to describing this band and their performance. Bob is in top form here; a modern day Master preserving the Zeitgeist of real, unabated talent. I have listened to this track so many times that I have memorized every nuance. Flawless. These cats are the REAL DEAL. Mr. Zimmerman, Pulitzer Prize winner, Nobel Prize winner, archetypal Badass is simply the greatest living musician today, bar none. His cool, unpretentious swagger alone could stagger millions of so-called "Rock Stars". This song KILLS.
I’ve played music 40 years, including a lot of roots rock groovy stuff. Each player on this tune kills in their own way. The Campbell & Sexton interplay is awesome. Never playing over each other - always complimenting. Garnier’s bass layout in places is the definition that sometimes it’s what you don’t play that matters. And George Receli on the drums is perfect. Playing loose but tight at the same time, alternating from a sort of New Orleans second line to a flat tire back & forth. Simply Amazing. Oh ya - Bob is killer too!
@@tedburgess485 Thanks for the info. The drummer amazed me. It sounds simple at first, but there is a lot going on under the surface.

mesmerising - held spellbound throughout. Love Bob's total lack of expression and total control - great band behind him - one of my favourite videos alongside "Not dark yet"
Probably Dylan's greatest band he ever had backing him.
I know who everyone is except for the drummer. Who is this badass?
Larry Campbell was the primary reason for that.
Damn right! Amazing flow between these guys
The Band on the "Judas" tour in about 1966 was pretty fine!
@@otleyperson - for their time - absolutely! The Band are the band!!
Bob Dylan has been performing for 50 years now and his powers still show no sign of diminishing, sure his voice is now just a growl but he is 70 years old afterall. Most of the famous artists of Dylan's era are either dead or no longer in the spotlight, Dylan has outlasted everyone. He is one of the giants of music that thankfully didn't leave us too soon. I consider it a blessing that the greatest musically poet is still grabbing life by the horns. May you reign forever Bobby.
He's in excellent voice on the Rough and Rowdy tour
those instrumental breaks are simply mind melting...
'mind melting' --that's the word for it alright
Bob said this is the best band he's ever had.

Hilarious? Hardly. These guys are *brilliant* !
Yes... I think this is a strange dylan song
Experienced this line-up with Sir Bobness in 2002 at Santa Clara University's Leavey Ctr. The floor was available for dancing, most folks sat in the stands. I was familiar with this song, so when they struck the beginning chords I worked my way to the front of the stage, and began my dance of the uninhibited, with some eye contact with Bob. I hope he was thinking " say, this dude has got the proper groove to my song, cool". Let yourself go, feed your freedom.
Yup, he’d be makin’ ya feel just that way. Loves what he do and loves that you do too no doubt, no doubt. Let it go and be “it,” whatever that feels like for you. He met and exceeded his goals here. That’s a big bullseye 🎯 for Mr. Dylan and his men of steel-eyed blazin’ glory. Yahoo!🌵🔥💥
Gotcha in his web🕷🕸 just where he wants you no doubt, no doubt…

Every lyric and the way Bob deliverers them is amazing.
I truly love this. One of his Royal Bobness'es greatest tracks in the past 20 years. Saw him do this & half of Highway 61 Revisited (yes - half!) at a brilliant show at Byron Bay last year. Living proof that great music does not need a technically great voice. it is shot to bits, but perfect for the purpose. The song is SOOOO good!
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here!
Folk and acoustic blues - there has been no better performer than Dylan nor there will ever be one. This is a superlative performance with an incisive edge
Perfectly composed steady shot so you can see all the performances at once and there's plenty to see without distracting camera work. The video fits together like the song and the performance. It's all of a piece. Magnificent.
+Dan'l Bentley I agree, simply great without all that camera moving about from drummer, bass player etc crap.
+Dan'l Bentley Yessir, it's really subtle, and as you said, "Magnicicent."
It's perfect. Anytime I try to watch one of these Paul McCartney live concerts, the cameras are swirling and moving all over the place and most of the shots are audience reactions in order to sell it.
Impossible to say which is Dylan's best, but this is certainly one of the choices.
Anyone noticing what a excellent drummer.

Amazing! The concentrated precision on their faces, every note delivered on time, These guys are so tight makes my teeth hurt. Accompanying the most enigmatic, musical artist on the planet, and doing it with grace and style. Of the hundred times I've watched this video masterpiece a percentage has been just for the ending. After the last chord stops reverberating (I can't help but read into the moment) a small but enthusiastic applause breaks out there is a look of enjoyment on their faces, an understated sense of accomplishment. Something has happened here. Something greater than the sum of it's parts. Central it all to it all a person who has people arguing over whether he is wearing his hat backwards.

Grand Love Sickness splashed all over the world… and we can all relate🥰☺️🙃🥲😭🥺😪🥵😰🥰
I am a huge fan (as so many are). I will buy everything he puts out just because I gotta see what he is up to.
I always find it interesting on some levels, for a while. Then he came out with Time Out of Mind 15 years ago (or so) and blew everybodys mind - even those who thought he was dead. And he continues to make astounding music. It is as good as anything he has ever done. I think one of the reasons is that he surrounds himself with outstanding artists in his backing bands.
Really, at the level Dylan is at.....what would an outstanding virtuoso be doin' with any thing less than THE best musicians out there? Garcia did Dylan, better than Dylan, thaz a Twist o' Fate, if you wanna give it a name
He's always done it. Infidels was his most overlooked album; Sly and Robbie on rhythm, Mark Knopfler on guitar, and the song lyrics were powerful.
And because he is an astoundingly accomplished musician.
Mary Miraglia "...... hang my head"
I never heard this version.ROCKIN!
That stare-down into the camera lense is absolutely hilarious --it's like he's asking, "Well? How's this?"
.....this is about as good as music gets....the boys firing on all cylinders....Charlie Sexton and Larry Campbell guitar dueling....magic....
There's something about not having a perfect voice that lends so much authenticity, sincerity and soul to a particular song. Dylan has it, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Shane McGowan, Billie Holiday and yeah -- even Dean Martin....none are perfect -- yet, they are legends. Ha. Because there's a thrill factor to it all. This is one of Dylan's best...this is rock and roll. Don't forget the word "roll" at the end. That guarantees it's the real thing. (There are other singers too...I can't list them all).
John LaStrada
John LaStrada don't forget Nina Simone.
Maybe reconsider your definition of "perfect" .
