As an aerialist, the only thing worse than wearing a dance belt is NOT wearing a dance belt. Even then, there are some moves that I've had to accept are simply not suitable for dangly bits.

Haven’t squished anything in my life!

Another example is when I’m doing a chair routine and do a Superhero on the chair back. If the chair back is padded, that’s best case scenario. But then it’s a matter of other costume bits like the lower part of my corset that provides a better structure and distributes the pressure, or ultimately finding the least painful place on my pelvis and/or pubic bone to balance from. This is because if you minimize the pain, it lets you focus on using your arms to support and steady the chair from tipping and using your core, glutes, and back muscles to lift your legs off the ground.
I recently saw someone post this online: “Non-dancers see practicing fundamentals as a lack of skill, dancers see practicing fundamentals as a proof of skill.” In other words, practicing the basics of technique is how highly skilled performers prevent injury and mishaps by reminding their body on how to execute the performance safely.

Dove pose is usually done into a drop just by letting go, and they like you to hold this pose for effect which isn’t always easy with a good portion of your body weight being supported via crotch. It is. Pole has four different varieties: pole sport for strength and athleticism, artistic pole for expression and creativity, freestyle pole for self-expression, and exotic pole. Most people only know about the last one.

As someone with balls who used to not be super concerned with protecting them while playing sports, it's pretty easy to avoid glancing blows doing stuff like this. With loose fitting clothes and supportive but not restrictive underwear, your balls move out of the way with slight pressure, and typically your scrotum pulls them in from all the movement. Only direct hits really hurt, which is why being kicked in the balls is horrific. But straddling a tree branch, they tuck themselves a bit. And you naturally don't put a ton of weight on them to begin with, it's second nature.

Honestly I think it's also a bit because of the fact that your body will redirect blood flow to other areas like the arms & legs. That really also does have the effect of shrinking the target area so the chances of impact are lower. But that doesn't mean you go commando coz the centrifugal force from a swing can make you end up right back where you started & then push you even further back. Learned that part the hard way.
