I got to see this particular car in Illinois quite a few years back. Probably about 13-14 years. There was a coal mine I ran into in my semi that had a long CN spur that they used to serve the mine on. This RDC came through to inspect the track as the mine company was working on a new contract that would’ve resumed train load outs. Sadly, the contract didn’t come through and the mine was closed. Cool to see the RDC trundle along on that spur, though.
If someone were to just tell me about the Budd RDC, I probably would not like them; but having seen a couple real ones, and having seen a few models, something about them is appealing and is appealing enough that some years ago I spent the money on both some models and a large hardcover book about them.
