After playing JWE and as fun as that is, it’s actually pretty astounding how unique each dinosaur sounded in JPOG compared to the JWE ones. Acro’s gentle growls are one of my favs along with Carchara’s hissing. Ankylosaurus, Camarasaurus along with all the hadrosaurs all sound gorgeous too (apart from you Edmontosaurus, too much PTSD from the Dino muster missions.)
Only roars I actually love in JWE is Dreadnaughtus and Suchomimus. There’s too much recycling in this game with majority of the herbivores not really having a distinct voice and even some carnivores (ie Deinonychus and dilophosaurus and majungasaurus and Ceratosaurus) having reused slightly altered sound effects. Sure there was an example of screamy boi in this game being a modified spinosaurus roar apparently but it’s really subtle and still feels unique to that dinosaur. Also they can’t get the parasaur and spinosaurus roars quite right and it bugs the living hell out of me, also the spinosaurus yelps like a dog, whoever thought this was a good idea an fitted spinosaurus I need to have a stern conversation in private with
You pretty much summed up my biggest problem with the dinosaurs from JWE. Sure, JWE dinos look more realistic, but the old JPOG dinos have far more "personality" to put it lightly.
1:34 the sounds when the Large carnivores snatch the Gallimimus, it makes such a cute sound while the large carnivores walk a bit and the sound of Gallimimus continues either 1 or 2 times till the carnivore shake it and about to swallow the whole body.
I'm just really glad they didn't keep the JPOG Albertosaurus roar, god my eardrums would never forgive me for listening to it on full blast. Who else would turned down their volume whenever they approach the Albertosaurus enclosure.
Y'know, it's actually quite funny when you listen to that first T-rex sound effect! You can tell it's taken straight out of Jurassic Park 3 because you can faintly hear Alan Grant yell "Shit!" at the end of the roar! XD
I have found out that the Albertosaurus Roar in this game is the Spinosaurus roar thats been high pitched, I experiment on the audio and by changing the pitch of the Spinosaurus roar to high is the same sound for the Albertosaurus, I did not realize that before.
I discovered something weird about Kentro's apparently some dinosaurs like the Brachiosaurus (or even a helicopter overhead) will cause them to panic and when they panic there is a chance their tail flailing will hit another kentro killing it. I had this happen a few times where my kentros would die and when I checked cause of death it would say animal attack and I would have no idea what attacked it until one time I saw it happen.
Kentro will always panic in the company of other larger herbivores. He can only live among the smaller herbivores and Stego and oddly Tricera and Toro too.
The Carcharo's sounds feel like they're taken out of an old SFX library from the 80s, several of the dinosaurs' grunts/roars are just pitched down versions of sounds used in Quake (the Kentrosaurus/aggro'd Ogre and the Pachy/Zombie), and the Allosaurus just sounds like a bear.
What jwe lacks is dino sound.. I remember every dinosaur sound in here.. But except velo, trex and dilo, I can't remember any other dino sound from jwe
Ah the Charcaro sounds so menacing. The kentrosaurus sounds like the pig cops from Duke Nukem 3D. And albertosaurus... the perfect alarm sound in the morning!
