  • Pacific Drive is the debut release from Seattle-based Ironwood Studios and one of my most anticipated games of the year. As is usual for the channel, in this video I take a positive look at what I can only describe as an absolute masterclass in how to deliver a compelling atmosphere. So buckle in as we head straight into the Olympic Exclusion exclusion zone! Special Thanks to Ironwood Studios and Kepler Interactive for providing me with a PS5 copy for review.

    I live near the Olympic Peninsula, and have been in the PNW for the last 23 years. There are times, in Pacific Drive, where I have to stop and just marvel at what I'm seeing and hearing. It's incredible how accurate it is. A rainy wind storm, at night, is incredibly well realized. The way the trees bend in the wind, the small bits of debris in the wind, the sideways rain, the raindrops streaking across the windshield, the headlights realistically casting dynamic shadows through it all.... It's just stunning, and it goes to show ultra-realism isn't necessarily the best way to achieve realism, if that makes any sense. I get the same feeling of driving an old logging road at night, as I do in the real world. Same vibe, all without ultra realistic graphics, and not by a big AAA studio. Great game.

    I love the change from gather and craft to spending an hour slamming doors and flipping lights on and off to find all the quirks

    I've lived in BC for my entire life. This game accurately simulates the average trip to the grocery store in the pacific northwest

    Any day now I'll be hitting 2k subs and I still haven't gotten a review copy of any game lol
    Seriously though this is a super cool thing for your channel that should be celebrated and I def plan on checking that game out sometime because of your review.
    Hope you have a good day and I'll see you around!

      Yeah it's tough not even getting like automated responses most of the time lol. But I recommend trying with indie devs and reaching out both on Twitter and with email. Larger publishers generally have established or trusted creators they work with or who join their partner programs so I doubt I'll see a code from one of them anytime soon but Kepler got back to me quickly, asked for a link to the channel and sent me a code the next day 👍 Good luck and thanks for watching 😊🙌

    From the reviews I’ve watched so far it seems like a dream game for those who love to micromanage due to OCD tendencies. I’m sold! 😅

      Definitely! I didn't get to mention everything I liked as I was in a bit of a rush, but if you like inventory management and micromanaging your own progression, you'll love this. Thanks for watching 😊🙏

      Yeah they're certainly spooky lol. I found them harmless at first then I accidentally drove into a couple for the first time. That did not go well 😂

    May I ask how did you get your keys? Is it through keymailer? Thanks in advance

    • @bonsaiboi
      @bonsaiboi  11 месяцев назад +1

      I went online and found the email address for their press contact on their website and then sent them an email just about a week before the game came out. They got back to me, asked for a link to my channel, and sent me a code the next day. I don't use keymailer because I mostly play games on console as it makes recording/streaming easier.

    So did you play this on ps5 you never mentioned how the game performed is it a solid 60 does it have drops ?

    • @bonsaiboi
      @bonsaiboi  11 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry about that, honestly just forgot to mention it 😅 I played on PS5, it's 60fps sometimes but generally hovers somewhere around 40-50 if I had to guess as you get farther and the car gets more loaded with equipment. It feels smooth and looks great so I only took notice of it when asked about it tbh

      @@bonsaiboi man I got the game and the performance should be a lot better I’m jsut hoping for a 60 fps patch because the game needs it it bounces around too much and takes away from the experience

    • @bonsaiboi
      @bonsaiboi  11 месяцев назад +1

      @anderssantos947 huh I never found it distracting, but I've grown to stop caring about fps unless it affects my ability to play the game. I used to get obsessed with it and wouldn't play anything that didn't run at a locked 60 or better, but fixating on performance like that got really tedious. It's why I play on my PS5 when I can because on my PC I feel the need to tinker with everything until I'm pushing exactly as many frames to the monitor as it can display.

    • @ShonnDaylee

      @@anderssantos947 I think the problem is you, frankly. I'm playing on PS5, and haven't noticed anything even remotely capable of killing emersion. This obsession with FPS is getting silly. The game runs great. Loving it.

    Do you advise controller or mouse and keyboard

    • @bonsaiboi
      @bonsaiboi  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hmmmm, it's hard to say. KBM is nice for inventory management, but the dual sense adds a lot to immersion in games for me. I enjoyed it with the PS5 controller but I'm sure it'd be a good experience on either. I personally recommend controller cause that's what I have experience playing the game with

    Only single player smh.. this would be such a good coop game for me and the wife. Sadly, no coop, no buy.

    • @bonsaiboi
      @bonsaiboi  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I could definitely see a co-op version of this in the future that would be great but unfortunately single-player only for this one 🙏
