- Jerry Jeff had 3 songs written that he had to get out. His voice was not responding well to his cancer treatment. We were at Chris Gage's MoonHouse Studio in a break. He agreed to talk a little about his friend Danny Britt and Donn's Depot. I also wanted to hear the origin story of Mr. Bojangles. This is that.

JJW has been the soundtrack of my life. He died a happy man, may God grant that dispensation to us all.
Love Jerry Jeff... he will always be the best... to me.
This is wonderful. As many have already said, JJW's songs were the sountrack of my life starting in my twenties. This makes my heart ache for his family. It aches for him too. The clip you uploaded of him singing "Right here in the moment" was simply beautiful. Everything about him is still sharp except for that filthy cancer attacking his throat. I would love to see the whole interview. God bless his family because I know their hearts are broken. Thank you so much.
What a beautiful demonstration of writing a killer song, and the simplicity is stunning. What a treasure in this short clip of a great songwriter. Thank you!
You are welcome.
Thanks Jay for putting up more Jerry Jeff material.
This clip, for me at least, is both sad and poignant. Jerry is reduced to a hoarse whisper by the fatal throat cancer.
Nevertheless, this material adds to a more complete knowledge of Jerry Jeff, like most of us, he couldn't slide by everything.
Thanks again.
JJW was a brilliant song writer and a had such a way for picking songs to record! I miss him terribly, but he still lives on through his music!!
Thank you, Jay. Your work, creating an archive of the music that so many of us love, is unparalleled! You are as important to the preservation of our music as the artists themselves. Thank you again and Thank You, Jerry Jeff!
Saw him in Austin in 1968 ( he was a blast then ) Then sen him again 2016 at fair in ROCKDALE Texas. He was super good . Still a blast. Lot of good memories with Jerry Jeff music.
Another great video Jay. RIP JJW his music will live on FOREVER!
Poor JJ, I wish he could have kept going forever. Thanks for sharing your footage.
That’s one of the funny things I’ve ever seen..LOL. I sure miss him. He has been my favorite almost my whole life.
Thank you for posting these videos. Jerry is an American icon and hearing Friends and Memories is AWESOME X 1000!!!
Thanks for posting this. My friend Bryant played ¿Viva Terlingua? for me in 1973 after he came back from a trip to Austin. Little did I know at the time that Ray Wylie Hubbard & Michael Martin Murphey were part and parcel of Jerry Jeff's The Lost Gonzos. Anyhow, it was the beginning of a lifelong appreciation for the man & his music. Jerry Jeff's music also led me to Steve Frumholz & many others of his musical compadres over the years. I guess I'd have to say Jerry Jeff Walker increased my record collection exponentially, between he & the many others to whose music his led me. Saw him one summer while visiting Toronto, at the Mariposa Folk Festival decades back. He was playing a folk club called The Riverboat in Toronto, so we traipsed over there to catch a few sets. He was always the same guy we saw there, every chance we had to see him after that, so it was particularly sad to see the ravages of cancer take its toll. We wanted to get down to Belize, but sadly never made it. He's gone, so I thank gawd for old memories, my vinyl and cds.
Thank you, Jay. I think this is the only recording I have seen of Jerry Jeff that was made after we last saw him at the Grand in Galveston in April 2019. Poignant and very special.
An extremely important interview about one great man meeting another
JJW died Oct 23rd this was posted on the 25th. Just curious when this interview was actually recorded. Amazing early songwriter in so many ways!

The WORST song ever written. JJW is VASTLY overrated.
A big thumbs down to your ridiculous and ill timed comment.
Jerry Jeff is a genuine American treasure and iconic tunesmith. Obviously, the test of time and love and adoration of countless fans and so many other great musicians of Mr. Bojangles and Jerry Jeff refute both of your statements. And Jerry Jeff was so much more than that one song. He gave us so many great memories, so many great songs with words and images that that speak to our souls full of life and truth. I am sad that you don't get it. Jerry Jeff Walker touched us with his lines, with his life. That cannot be overrated.
Jerry Jeff Walker
Layin' my life on the line, that's what I do all the time
Well I find myself each night, facing a white light
Layin' my life on the line
Driving the road here tonight, my thoughts were of Susan and I
Now her love sustained me, the road almost claimed me
They're laying my life out in a line
Traveling is my way of life, and so it gets crazy sometimes
Well it takes me places, where I see the faces
Of people I touched with my lines
Bridge:
Sometimes it all feels so right, sometimes I just feel far from home
Sometimes I wonder, am I just stumbling through here
Have been on this road for too long
But here I am out here tonight, playing the songs that I like
Cause the magic is bringing, each song you're singing
Your whole life's laid out in lines
Well I'm laying my life on the line
Sorry, you’re way off. Listen to his first five albums, 1968 through 1972 and check back with us later. Great writer and also a miner of other great songs
You must listen to HEAD banging shit & that is why YOU don't know what real music sounds like.
Telecat Johnson what a stupid thing to say at such a moment
