He got the nickname Shirley because he had curly hair & his mates used to say he looked like Shirley Temple. He was the front man of Skyhooks & Redman 'Red" Symons of Red Faces was the guitarist.
Don't forget that Shirl also starred as the handyman in the lifestyle/home improvement show "Our House" (1993-1999). He was awesome in that role well before "Better Homes and Gardens" became a thing.
Ryan. Australia wishes you and your loved ones.. a happy and safe. Festive Season. Merry Christmas to all.. Thank you for all your efforts over the last 12 motnhs... Looking forward to another 12 months of Mateship.
But what a 4yrs it was. Got home from school, made a snack and sat back for some Shirl's Neighbourhood. Loved it, so many different characters, always a laugh and always learned something. ✌❤
Oh thanks for posting the Ryan! This was my favourite show when I was little. My husband and I knew every word to the song straight away. I had this song on cassette tape and I used to drive my mum and dad crazy playing it! Haha. Makes me cry watching it!!❤❤
Funny thing about Shirl hosting a kid's show after Skyhooks. Some of their songs were banned for their adults only lyrics. By the way, he later went on to do a home renovation show called Our House, and that was his job when he died in the crash. He was a very popular Australian.
There is a saying ‘once in a blue moon’. A blue moon is when you have 2 full moons in a month. It means very rarely. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Have a safe one.
Ryan, have a listen to Skyhooks "Living in the 70's", "Horror Movie" and "You just like me coz I'm good in bed"...great Aussie classics from the good old days !
Omg this makes me feel old . I loved this show hahahah I am in my 50's The first two guys in blue are from a show called cop shop. The people are all from different tv show that were on tv or are well own.
Graeme Strachan (strawn) was a lovable curly haired lad, the lead singer in Skyhooks and various TV shows. The nickname Shirley (Temple) was because of his curly hair. One of the members of Skyhooks is well known to you, Ryan! Red Symonds! Hey Hey!
I remember coming home about 9.30p.m and watching a short version of the t.v news. The newsreader told about how that day there'd been a tribute to Shirley Strachan who had recently died in a helicopter crash. He had loved surfing and the ocean so a large group of like minded mourners joined hands in the ocean. Then suddenly the newsreader looked confused and muttered something about stories coming in about planes crashing into a building in New York. Shirl's untimely death touched Australians. The planes crashing changed the world.
@@nedflanders4158, could it be Gil Tucker? I looked through the cast list on IMDb, & his was the name that stood out from all the “No, definitely not him!” names.
Bargearse was fantastic. 😂 Ryan will need a big intro as to where it all came from. It first being a cop show named Bluey. That'll totally throw him seeing there's now the Bluey cartoon character. And that it was overdubbed by The Late Show. My favourite line has to be: "Either of you ladies care to join me in a Dutch Oven?" 😂
A long time ago, simpler times and good memories too. Claude Crow asked for viewers (the kids) to send in used band aids and toenail clippings because he liked to eat them, allegedly. As a kid Claude was my favourite of mine, I could never understand why my mother wouldn’t let me send stuff in. The character with glasses is Old Pos (Possum) and he loved Jam (Jelly) Sandwiches and slept a lot. Shirely Strachan was also lead singer of the band Skyhooks. It was a shock all those hears ago to learn of his death in a helicopter crash in Queensland.
The bush refers to lots of trees with low human population, when you hear of bushfires it's not bushes that are burning it's huge eucalyptus trees that are burning.
“Woods” refers to a fairly small patch of trees. Big enough to get lost, but briefly. Then there’s “Into the Woods” (Sondheim) which is about fairy tale characters lost in a forest. So I guess on your side of the pond it isn’t limited to small patches.
If you want to watch an iconic Aussie show it would be kingswood country.its not a ids cartoon though it's Australian and it's iconic and it's back in the day

So crazy. I remember all of this and it's 40+ years ago. What I don't understand though... that first clip went on and on, but the host Shirl wasn't even in it!
I was born in the 70’s and remember this being on, and I’m also from WA. Shirl Strachan (pronounced Strawn) was actually a carpenter, the lead singer of a 70’s band called Skyhooks. Yeah he was training to fly helicopters, student accident. I haven't heard this for decades. The young cop with bowl cut and eyebrows is Gil someone, a journeyman actor of the times. He was in Cop Shop.
Bruce Spence was the pilot in the Mad Max movies. The voice is definitely his. Sandgropers are a unique small animal that lives on West Australian beaches...
