  • Here we take a quite look at how you can add an Environment sensor to any meshtatic lora board which has an I2C bus.

Great Matt, they have made all this easy now in the latest firmware. I see it will also will do canned messages. Time to update my firmware.

And as my node is on the same local mesh as to Matt, I can vouch for the all environmental & motion detection messages 😂

Just a little note on I2C... it is pronounced "eye-squared-see", not "eye-two-squared".

Thanks for the video, great stuff. Quick question, have you managed too get the sensor data out if the mesh into something like NodeRed? I'm trying to figure this bit out!
    Thanks

I have one of those air quality sensors but only used it on Arduinos. I fancy doing something with telemetry, as I already have nodes set up.

Great video, going to add my BME20 now. 2 questions. Can I add more than one sensor/ module at the same time? I want to add GPS and BME20. And what are canned messages? Thanks.

Hello, did you have to solder the terminal strips on the Heltec and the BME before connecting on the breadboard? The holes and spacing between them are tiny. I just thought I'll mount the boards on the terminal strips without soldering and added the wiring but I don't get environment data so probably the BME is not "seen".

Thanks Matt, do you know of any info for the following sensors that would work with Mesh Tastic?
    1. Wind speed and direction
    2. Vibration sensor (to monitor the vibration on a radio mast)
Can one run 2 i2c sensors on the same unit? I am asking as I would love to use meshtastic with a wind sensor (speed and direction) and BME280 Sensor to do weather reporting on an hour or 2 hour cycle.

Thanks Matt, nice video as usual.
How about taking exactly the same hardware and showing how to connect it to the ThingsNetwork given that many people are likely to get disappointed with Meshtastic once the hype cycle is over? There is a german video that describes it but didnt find a good english version.

Great video, thanks! Question... what about soldering this sensor AND the GPS board to the Heltec. I'm using Pin 2 for the GPS, so no issues there... but I need a Ground. Can I solder both boards to the same Ground Pin 1?

It looks like you're putting 5 volts to the BME280(?). I was under the understanding that the I2C lines should be 3.3 volts. And if that sensor is anything like the SHT31's that I have here, the I/O voltage is the same as VCC... so 5 volts VCC means 5 volts I/O. What am I missing (as I try to get my Heltec V3 to recognize any of my SHT31 sensors...)?

    Cool beans.
My Austalian Shepard refuses to stay behind whenever I use the automobile. For him its as grand an entertainment as watching a great movie is for two legged animals. The problem is summer heat and I have had to install a chill mat, & fans, and containers of ice as well as sometimes he wears a chill vest to make summer tagging along doable and safe for him where this is much like what the military does for service dogs in hot environments such as Afghanistan.
I wanted a device that would monitor the inside temperture in the van that gave me an exact interior temperture rather than rely on empherical data given by relating initial outside temperture with time under various boundary conditions such as in shaded area or direct sun so that if we have to stop for gas or etc I know for certain the actual interior temperture rather than an expected result given by experimentation.
I had been thinking about buying a wireless thermometer and modifying it for extended range but this gets clunky in a hurry when you start adding a 50 mhz quarter wave vertical antenna and perhaps illegally increasing its output power beyond its few milli watts of power. On the other hand while Bluetooth does not have the range, two Meshtastic devices with telemetry in one I expect would work.
Before anyone comments with I would never take my dog in a car during the summer even with all that has been provided to keep him safe because something might fail. Well, every time you take your son or daughter anywhere in a car they and you are at serious risk of being harmed otherwise we would mot have insurance companies. Plus part of providing and caring for another includes what interest them, not necessarily you, where this is their having what they enjoy experiencing.

So? Do I need to purchase 5v or the 3.3v version? I intend to use on Battery Power. But while using the USB-C to flash it etc it I have it wired up for Battery. Would the USB burn out the 3.3v version? Little confused. Thanks.

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  3 месяца назад +1

Weird thing is that the one I bought said 5v in the listing title, but the specs say 3v3. I guess you will need to check the specs, but if you want to run on battery then use the 3v3 pin on the heltec. It will still work when usb is plugged in.
