Five years ago I met a young man who was a partial orphan. He still had his mother but she lives with HIV and is often not able to work. He had finished P7 4 years prior to our meeting and wanted desperately to return to school. I suggested vocational school due to his age but he really really wanted to finish school. Because he was older, the secondary school we chose questioned whether it was appropriate for him to be there but they decided to give him a chance. He's now in S4 and sits for his leaving exams soon. We will continue to sponsor him through 5 and 6 and if he doesn't get a scholarship, even for university. He took his opportunity seriously and is scoring at the top of his class. Tell Martin he can also do it! To not let his age deter him and to keep his eye on the prize...graduation. It is completely in his hands to take this opportunity seriously. My student wants to go on to study Political Science and hopes to represent Uganda as an Ambassador one day.
Good luck, Bazale. It's never to late to study. I failed all my GCSE's due to a difficult childhood. I was in the British care system. I studied in my early 20's. I'm excited to watch your journey.
Also, what about a video on your boda driver? He seems like such a nice man and very protective of your family. He goes on shopping trips and seems to be protective of the children. Just a thought. 😊

I wish our US kids could see the joy these children have for school. Bazale seems beyond happy to be back in school even if it means making up for lost time. I hated school and took accelerated courses just to be done with it as soon as possible. It warms me to see these youths so happy even when the lessons are hard.
Our Canadian kids too, they're all spoiled and think we owe them. The government here give money to kids for school but never once check to see how the money is spent.

Your story makes me really appreciate all the training foster parents have in the uk. It’s so easy to forget how trauma can inform kids/teens decisions and not being trained on that is so tough. You didn’t have the tools at the time, but I can only imagine how healing it was for Bazale to have you keep showing up and keep coming back. And I’m so pleased you are able to help him make up for lost time with school - on top of all the rest you do!! You are guided by your hearts Emilie and Josh and it shines through in all your children - especially the ones who are technically grown!!

A lovely positive video. I hope it all works out for Bazale. I was brought up in Islington, London. I was born not far from where the Emirates stadium is now. Believe me, it wasn’t easy growing up in the 60s and 70s….we had very little. So I’m happy when I see someone getting support, so they can do well. Well done Emily and Josh. Time to get married ❤️

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to navigate parenting teenagers and even myself eith biological children I've made mistakes and I've learnt from them.

We are sad Grace didn't change his ways - but they were also very different boys. Bazale always had a good heart, even if he made bad choices. We just hope he can catch up with school now and still have a bright future 🤞🤞🤞

Martin go the education you need and better yourself. Because without an education life out there is not easy. Emily and Josh has done the best for you you should make them proud. They didn't have to do it but their did. I really wirh you could find Grace and help i guess he needs some out there before it's too late.
You had great intentions, but lacked experience to understand the implications of taking on teenage boys when you were still very young yourself. Well done, for understanding what went wrong and rectifying it, so glad that Bazale is back with you. It is a shame that Grace was unable to come back.

He's gone into S4 - so two years in theory and he can sit his O Levels (GCSE equivalents). But he's been out of school for ages, it's really going to depend how ready he is to sit them... the school thinks he'll manage but I really think if he's going to take exams after all this time, he should be in a good place to achieve good grades! Then another two years if he wants to do A Levels. Then just depends going forwards what he chooses to do!
