When a dog reach his 12 or 13 years you have noI much time left ( just when you love them the most ),and cancer is a common risk I can imagine the pain of his owner taking the decision of putting to sleep ,this lovely dog, so clever, so cute, so sweet, so smart,the love of a dog is very special,they are innocent, loyal, great companion they bring happiness to the home,to the family zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz this last zz were written when my schnauzer dog Dolly put her paw over the keyboard while I was writing this message to UGGIE run free Uggie to THE RAINBOW BRIDGE thanks for the sweetness and joy you left us
Uggie quick response is amazing! The fact that he's just as comfortable with Ellen's commands as he is with Omar's, just shows how expertly trained he is :)
That is so adorable... I love that dog! The whole thing was great but I loved it when Ellen misunderstood Omar and walked forwards instead of backwards, causing Uggie to trip. I thought he was such a good sport about it since he just got back up and did the trick!
God fucking damn it. This world pisses me off so much sometimes. Looking up dog videos, looking to get cheered up because dogs are so amazing and I love them so much and this dog is so cute and adorable and so smart... Then people in the comments saying he is dead... I mean jesus christ, did we really need to know that? How does it benefit anyone to know that? Can't we just see an adorable dog and imagine that he is still living a great doggie life doing tricks and getting treats and being loved and making people happy? Ugh.
I wish Uggie have a wonderful and bless life after his retirement. He was so wonderful, thanks you Uggie for bringing us so much joy and fun with your performance. Love you so much:-* you are one such dear which I will never forget.

@kc768 At the very first Oscar voting, Rin Tin Tin got the most votes, but was overridden because they wanted these new awards to seem "serious" and awarding Best Actor to a dog wouldn't have been serious. That decision set policy that did in any animal's chances of winning an Academy Award, even though there have been many possibilities (Asta, Lassie, Uggie, etc).
So, who knows the trainer? Now I'm curious. If it is a bow-tie - my bad. Looked like a black strap and a box attached to it to me. But going back to the body language - what methods were actually used? I'd be shocked to find out this dog was positively trained... Who knows the truth? What methods were used?
Uggie is definitely very cute - but why does he need to wear an electric shock collar around his neck in order to perform on TV?! There are much better methods these days... The create reliable behaviors AND happier-looking dogs. (Jack Russel Terriers usually have their tail up, not between their legs, when they work!). Look up clicker training...

My Jack Russel is 6 years old and the most intel dog i have ever owned. The thng is that he is training me very well. "Uggy seems like he is only about 6 months old. Thats a good time to teach them tricks. Incredible dogs these Jack Russels.

He was euthanized after developing a tumor
That's so sad!! I'm glad he's not in pain anymore, but still...
He lived to 13 though, so had a pretty long life.

Phil Johnson Jack Russell Terriers are an amazing breed. I grew up with one and I wish I could have the amount of excitement he had every day.
Uggie should get an Oscar. I saw that film, and he was brilliant. Ultra loyal to his owner. No wonder there's such a thing called Man's Best Friend.
