While I think the ROTB transformation looks funny on the big screen, I appreciate how close it is to the transformation of my Earthrise Optimus figure. Chef's kiss!
Bay's Optimus transforms in reference to actual physics. If you see people doing Parkour, when they land from a very high place they mostly tend to do a roll to minimize and distribute the impact of landing safely on the body preventing injury while maintaining momentum. Combine that logic and Optimus can safely turns into truck mode. In Rise of the Beasts, Optimus is your Cartoon Prime that basically ignore physics in exchange for an awesome and nostalgic transformation.
@@FloydRos referencing doesn't mean they fully applying it. They just put some bits of it to make viewers feel that it is a real truck transforming into a robot and vice versa
Dude, Optimus prime was thrown by primal and began transformation mid throw where as Optimus in bayverse began falling from a much larger vertical distance Edit: but I do see your point but I feel there’s probably a better scene that showcases it
I think i figured out why bayverse prime looks more realistic to people: 1: its set at night and cg works better in dark environments that can kind of blur over the uncanniness of CG 2: the sound design feels a lot... crunchier in the bay vsrsion. Each impact has weight, from him hitting and then rolling on the tarmac, and each click and clank of the transformation feels like it takes force, but not effort to turn into a truck. I like both of these, but visually i like ROTB a bit better because of how smooth that choreography is.
It being night time isn't why it's more real looking He also looks way more realistic in daytime scenes, like when he transforms on the highway while fighting Bonecrusher or just before he fights Megatron
@Descendant of Kraff not sure about those two scenes. The Bonecrusher fight and the turnaround before the Megatron fight felt uncanny to me. Don't get me wrong, those are awesome scenes but the moment it cuts to the CG truck before the transformation I can tell
No it's because they Bayverse had real locations and explosions to make room for enough time to spend on CGI from ILM studios. *ROTB has a shitty deadline, shit CGI explosions and a bad budget.*
People "think" it looks more realistic because bay said he wanted the transformers to look realistic as a dumb excuse to avoid mass shifting which he ended up adding anyway in his movies

Yeah because the Bumblebee movie Prime didn’t work to be live action, the robot mode has waaay to many parts to it that it doesn’t fit on the truck mode. And that’s why alot of the parts just gets covered up by panels that comes out of nowhere, like u said.
If you look closely and in slow motion, the ROTF transformation cheats quite a bit too, it’s just hidden a bit better because of the darker lighting. Optimus does a somersault and is magically halfway there to being a truck. It happens with every transformation if you look close enough, especially after Movie 1
@@TheJimMcC I agree on that to, I love all of the Transformers movies so much and been watching the transformations over and over again and on slow to analyse all the parts on them, and yeah when you look at the transformations in slow motion that’s when you see all the CGI cheating going on
I agree on everything y’all have said. But the panels are really irritating just due to the fact he’s almost parts forming like a toy. His arms retract as a whole and (as the comment above said) panels just cover it. I’ll agree, the Bay transformations have been …odd at times, but I prefer how much things move and shift rather than retract and cover. A large portion of the 1-3 Prime’s truck nose is in his chest (his ‘abs’ before DOTM), so that kinda expands outwards to make room for his arms to collapse inward. But it still looks odd for the grille, light bar and fender/bumper to all be there after he summersaults. Still looks clean imo, and this will always be my one of favorite transformations.
I also maybe made it sound like i hate the ROTB Prime transformations and the design, that it doesn’t fit live action, but i really love it. It's so cool that we got alot more Transformers and transformations then before
If you look closely on the rotb transformation you can see that there is flaps that come out and fill up the sides which mimics many toy transformations
I wonder why people even think that Rise of the Beasts had a cut budget. Bay's films had about the same budget even after adjusting for inflation. To me, ROTB looks like a much more simpler transformation that doesn't require every inch and part to shift and turn.
