The smile picture to me looks like Lisa Garland's smile, who took care of Alessa, superimposed over something monstrous, my English isn't good enough to explain metaphor properly but as though a connection in the back of Heather's mind or to signal to her to remember
I've seen a video that said SH3 uses pregnancy and childbirth as a metaphor for ist narrative. Since then I started to notice all the references to menstruation and the relationship of a teenage girl with the theme. Personally, I believe the monster in the way is a metaphor for the hymen and vitginity, more specifically, losing it, to open the way for whats to come. This whole area seems to be about things that teenagers go through when they're getting sexually mature. The insecurities, the fear of violence/men (as someone said in another comment), the dominant male posture (vincent). All in a place full of boring adult stuff.
I wonder how many parents think of this game while their daughters are becoming young women. You think dads might imagine this because we don't have the same understanding?
Came back to this series since it's fun to listen to and thought about something. The storybook depicting the priestess dying and only understanding how to beat the Glutton after made me think of a meta interpretation. If Heather (the player) dies, they are revived to try again until they find the proper answer and are able to leave. I love how layered this series is so much.
I’m gonna say perhaps maybe valtiel is to heather what pyramid head is to James. Although I know that’s not exactly true, this video kinda made me think. Fantastic work as always. Your Silent Hill videos are like presents every time I see one posted. You break it down extremely well and it really helps me understand Silent Hill to that next step
I think that Valtiel's purpose is to guide Heather in order to make her a good mother for God, so when God grows up, she brings paradise to all, but in the right way, not the cult's.
In recent rumors, KONAMI might revive the Silent Hill franchise. I think this is a great timing to make more silent hill videos. I really like Silent hill. I grew up playing silent hill 1,2,and 3. I am now a grown up family man and watching your video about silent hill brings back a lot of good (scary ) memories playing the game. I also like how you describe scenes in the game in a storytelling way. Please make more silent hill videos. Specially about Silent hill 1. Subscribed🇯🇵
Personally, I believe the mannequin represents gendered violence - as has been mentioned before in this series, one of the running themes of the game is "monsters"/adult men attacking women. Just by existing as a female, Heather always has to worry about what men like Vincent can do to her when nobody else is around. She's just a body - a prop - to him. They never imply directly that he takes advantage of women he has power over, but the threat is still in the back of Heather's mind.
@@satanamogila9251 In this case she isn't wrong. Part of the themes explored, according to Team Silent themselves, are what is to be a teenage girl. Part of those themes definitely comes across as a fear of men. They just do it in a subtler fashion then current year games/movies do. Their first focus was on game play though like it should be. The 'message' of said art is there for you to find and process on your own
Vincent is just a corrupt Order preacher, he wants Healther killed because "god" returning will be hellish at first, and it will ruin the comfy life he has
Apologize, I didn't mean to imply Vincent is not a threat to Heather, and he is trying to manipulate her from the onset, which is a form of child abuse because Heather is still a young lady
I loooved the concept of Heather turning the valve caused the otherworld shift, I can see why the Hilltop Center is related to Claudia now, and to me it seems the Hilltop center is Heather's frustration and anger starting to manifest, since the first thing she thinks of is Claudia asking "did she do this too?" when she first wakes up after the shift. The Otherworld Hilltop Center is also where you find out Heather used to smoke! 😲 The Otherworld Center also has HUNDREDS of Slupers and Dogs!! Every damn time you turn a corner you could hear the stupid slupers and dogs but every time I would go around the corner I got knocked over or chomped on by those things. actual Alessa would've been terrified of that place. There's also like Valtiel Cult bodies in like every nook and cranny and window probably symbolizing how the cult was always watching her where ever she was, kind of how like they're everywhere when you get to the otherworld amusement Park and Church since they were always around for big events.
Greek speaker here again. I'm not sure those are two separate words; I think it's a string of continuous greek characters. Regardless, they don't form any words from what I can tell. You can pick out certain characters which don't belong next to eachother. Chi and fi for example. I thought maybe you could split them up and form words but, the last letters are certainly gamma gamma, next to eachother they make a "g" sound (like the English g), but you cannot start or end a word with a double gamma, so that is kind of out. I think perhaps it is just for artistic purposes and doesn't have any actual definite word/words behind it.
@@thegamingmuse good point. By the way, I think the reason why Valtiel is meant to guide Heather is because it's in her destiny to be God's mother, just not the in way the cult wants. She's meant to raise her, to love her until she's ready to bring the paradise to all, not to be only God's incubator like the cult wants. What do you think of my theory about Valtiel ?
The goddess of Silent Hill is a female, who is taken care of by Valtiel, a male figure. The only ally that Heather has left in the canon ending is Douglas, who's a man. Harry who was also a man and probably one of the most loving fathers in all fiction was killed mercilessly by Claudia, a woman. Heather still retains the harsh memories of both Alessa and Cheryl, who where tortured and killed by Dahlia, a woman. This game is no feminist manifesto, and reducing the reactions of Heather or the symbolisms to a "fear of men" is not only wrong, is clearly biased. The order is comprised of both men and women, and that is what Heather is afraid of, she's afraid of *strangers* . Yes, there are some references to male genitalia and Vincent is a douchebag, we can all agree on that, but the god of Silent Hill was placed in the womb of Alessa/Heather by a ritual, there was no male or female involved and Heather probably knows that, so the allusions to rape and sexuality are symbolic, not literal (like almost everything in SH). Reducing any entry of the games developed by Team Silent to "the sins of a sex" would be almost disrespectful to such pieces that are so embedded in deep meaning, when it's about the sins of us humans, as a whole.
The smile picture to me looks like Lisa Garland's smile, who took care of Alessa, superimposed over something monstrous, my English isn't good enough to explain metaphor properly but as though a connection in the back of Heather's mind or to signal to her to remember
Woah nice observation!
The word your looking for is subconscious?
It's confirmed that it's Lisa
@@Yayofangamer16I mean Lisa is in the game, but this particular picture is from a photo of Marilyn Monroe and not Lisa's model.
The true horror of silent hill 3 is how it implies Alessa had to repeat school as heather.
Silent hill content for years. Telling us that silent hill is a masterpiece. So underrated game. Miss it

I agree. Details like this went out the window when video games were just manufactured, and not really created.

Ey Muse, what do you think that "The Mountain" means ? I think that it represents Heather's destiny, which is forward and unclear.
Possibly - I also associated it with the town of Silent Hill since it's meant to be in/near the mountains.
