I don't normally comment on videos, but I absolutely had to state that your videos are amongst the most structured, comprehensible and well presented art videos I've seen on the internet. I've seen paid art videos which you easily put to shame.
Thank you for all your hard work.

Oh, my, this is gold. Such important concepts and yet we barely hear anyone mention them. They would usually say "yeah, composition is important, study composition, push your composition, play with the focal point" yet there are no clear explanations on what you should actually do and think about.
Thank you so much for these, Marco, I can't wait to see more on this topic.

Marco, I'm gonna be honest man. I've seen many, many art teachings on RUclips. You've got to be one of the top 3 best teachers I've seen thus far. You have an amazing way of teaching complex art to its simplest form, especially to a novice such as myself. It comes really natural to you and you seem to really enjoy it. Even though it still requires many, many hours to practice in theory you make it not so intimidating to a novice such as myself, but rather, a reason to explore, be free and most of all, have fun! Thank you:)

The reason why this series gives me so much confidence is because at some level we have been doing these things and we recognize them when we see them done well (by we, I mean, artists). This is just bringing those things to light. This does not require us to do something drastic or completely change the way we do things and yet it does. I mean, we don't have to readjust our techniques or anything, we have to readjust how we think about things and that makes a drastic improvement. Also, this can be applied to any medium of painting, any genre with equal ease and effectiveness. This is awesome.

This has been so useful, thank you for posting the tutorials. I realised recently that the work that fails for me is always things I over complicate and don't compose before hand, I think the idea will come to me fully as I go along when in fact it's so much more important to spend time preparing, and not wasting time banging your head on the desk because it hasn't worked.
Very well explained and great advise for digital and traditional artists alike!

Sir, I have to say that you have got some of the best knowledge and advice regarding art. The way you present those information in the simplest way is really great. Lots of art tutorials have technical as well as aesthetic info behind them to get better in art but that is simply not enough when it comes to execution as it always feels something to be missing. The subtle references you have put forward have really made me understand paintings better.

Amzing videoseries! As someone who studies mechanical engineering I ve had the impression that most art videos(tutorials) are like: "hm yea lets take a bit of that and change the hue of that and now it looks much better".
Your videos on the other hand show a clear structure and reasoning why certain things are done and how they work and also why the human body reacts to them.
    Thank you!

  • @ShaunMcMillan

These lessons are so much 1000xs better than most of the video tutorials out there, so why oh why aren't they more popular. RUclips artists just do not know how to appreciate a good lesson.

  • @slanguagefreak2388
    @slanguagefreak2388 4 года назад

When you feel so good because you have been using these things without realizing it. I have been using c-curves, the contrast between activity and hue shifts in paintings without realising I was doing that. And I noticed the paintings I used them in looked better than others and I kept doing more and more of that. Recently, texture has been a favourite of mine, too, even though I did not realize that is what was making the difference. Why this 10-minute info could not have been communicated to me in years of art classes, I fail to understand. There are so many videos (or series of videos) that claim to actually help you improve your painting by some miraculous trick. However, till date, this is the only one that has delivered on it. Also, not only will it help me improve my painting, it has given me confidence to try new things to paint. I mostly paint nature - landscapes, seascapes, cloudscapes, animals, birds, flowers, insects, underwater etc. At most I will paint some still life (that too, if it captures my fancy) or objects like boats etc surrounded by nature. I have been terrified of urban paintings and paintings with too many people. This series has given me confidence that I can at least try to approach them without losing my mind. And that is saying a lot because I am a stubborn brat.

Hi Marco. I purchased Digital Painting 01 on your website and it's really great. Alsoi think quick examples like these 10 minutes videos are really comprehensive which you can consider for upcoming tutorials or courses. To be honest, after watching your first 10 minutes video, i am inspired by your voice and it's content so i went to your website immediately, hoping find more interesting videos, ha ha.

You've become a very good teacher man, i really appreciate your videos. Even if I already sort of knew all these things you talk about in the video separately, I never connected any dots between them and you helped me do that.

Thanks! I agree - I find that's kind of the nature of getting better at art. The concepts are actually very simple, intellectually. It's the ability to deeply link one to the next - and then apply that thinking to your own work - that takes time. Glad these videos can help connect those dots.

I like this piece. The most interesting part to me is that at 6:05, you can stop it and have a decent sketch with slight highlights on the buildings. I also notice that the trees and building roofs are done with the same round brush. Cool

Thank you so much for making this video, it provides such a concise description into composition, contrast and focal points, which I feel are aspects of painting that I am still muddling around.

Something important to note is that: A lot of pieces have their focal point in one of the 3rds of the drawing. I find it important because that's where it's easiest to shift my eyes.
