Function over fashion!!! I don’t want trailmater lifting this out or off of trails I want to drive in help and drive out!! I new you had the team to build this truck to its ultimate potential and I can’t wait to see what you guys do to it!!! Thank you for doing it!!
I have been looking forward so much to this build. I am an avid fan of Matt's and Fab Rats' builds, and this has the potential to be superb viewing. Not only that, but I am going to learn a lot about Rory's engineering philosophy - and that can only be a good thing.
I can tell you his philosophy: "Iterations" -- Run it until it breaks, upgrade as needed, keep using what works and discard what doesn't work well; Iteration after iteration; trial and error. The scientific method. After years of that happening again and again, you end up with Trail Mater. and As you can see, Paul is basically copying Rory's two trucks. He's narrowing the hood just like Trail Mater, and he's using a hydraulic boom in the back, just like Old Blue (Rory's other wrecker). Matt is going all out and trying new things -- but it may end up not being very useful on the trails-- we'll see. If not, it still makes a cool sand wrecker. It will be fun to see them all on the same trail some day.
There is a big difference between restoring an antique and building a working truck that looks like an antique. What fun this is going to be watching you figure out all the details.
I have so many builds to watch now. Matt’s off road, fab rats, and now you guys 😅😅😅 I’m currently rebuilding my Baja bug and can’t get away vehicle builds… (I watch these videos at lunchtime at work) this universe is saying build it faster this could be you…
I love how Rory can drive millimetres away from a 10,000ft drop whilst steering with one hand and drinking from a can of soda with the other without flinching....then a tiny Lizard scurries away from him and he turns into the fastest moving object on Earth 😅 Keep up the Fab content Rory and the Moab Team 🦎
Take your time Rory! 😂 lol I’m just glad y’all got her in the shop now, I’ll just wait to see the updates and videos on the Robby Wrecker! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is honestly the best channel on RUclips. It is fun to see your adventures and the passion you have for your work, as well as your honesty and integrity. Keep em' coming!
My grandad had me cutting metal from cars from the twenty’s and thirty’s for projects. Everything looks familiar. I was a child. Takes me back. I can almost smell the old car smell. Good work from my viewpoint. Thank you.
❤️. These end so soon. You all are so interesting and fun. Rory, what ever you decide will be perfect. With the three of you working on it What one doesn’t think of the other will. God bless you all and be happy. ❤️❤️🙏🙏👍👍❤️❤️
Hard-working man, Thank you for your honesty and the jokes you make about the comments. I love watching your videos. Keep them coming😃👍🏻 greetings from Holland
Rory this build is going to be great!!!!! I like the idea of using the iron block 350 chevy very good choice. You have a great crew. Safety is differently number one. Thanks again for sharing.☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
As soon as you put that cab on the new chassis...you can see the dream..can't wait for the next episode...I'm doing a 1937 international on a Pajero frame, smaller vehicle project but just as cool..
I'm just happy for the amount of viewers, views and the content to ur videos. you always say thanks but THANK YOU. I've been to moab once. all I can think of is getting back. im in Texss we have some trail's definitely a different place. no public land nothing compares to what Yall wake up to.
I love your channel because you keep things simple. No flashy make believe stuff. I don’t like how other channels show off how they think they are the best by flashing all their expensive rigs. You are down to earth people. All their money and give aways don’t impress me at all. Rory you are the best.
The Lizard needs a name. After all, during the tow he was the fastest lizard in Utah! And for all we know he'll just spend the winter in a corner of the shop ticking off the progress list on the Studleybaker.
The stories that old tow truck could tell 😔 so much history. All the people it helped and now its coming back to life. And doing it again. Just awesome.
I'm pushin' 70 a bit here. I grew up on a salvage yard back in the 60s and have seen a few things go horribly wrong. I appreciate your attention to prevention of needless calamities!! Make it work safely. Take your time as you get the details right the first time. ya doin' good!!
Now I think I need to build my Mower Wrecker. I've built everything else I can think of for our race team and my swap meet cruiser, the Mudder, and my mini JD Tractor. Watching you guys build your tow trucks has got me thinking. Kinda like Cars and Cameras did the budget jet boat. Be well and have fun, all. Ill catch ya later, Mater.
I can just hear the comments, is it done yet, is it done yet. This will be coming from those that have never built a custom vehicle. As much as I am a Ford person you are right. Older small block Chevy kick a$$. The V 10 Ford is nothing better than a boat anchor. Looking forward to this as it comes. Thanks for sharing. Have fun at trail hero
All good things take time, this is ganna be a cool beast when its done, anticipation is killing to see the progress, Thumbs up, Take all the time you need
You are not going to believe how much this build is going to boost your channel. +400,000 subscribers I bet. Looking forward to the build with the 3 amigos.
Hey Rory, we were the people that almost got in your way with the silver RV, as you were towing the old tow truck. We were stopping by to meet you and tell you a story, but you guys looked busy and I didn’t want to get in the way of you shot. Love you guys.
@@trailmater Thanks for saying that, I should have. I wanted to tell you that when my wife was going through chemotherapy treatments last year, times were tough and so I would watch your recovery vids during that time and they very effectively took me away from my problems as I imagined being there with you doing those recoveries. It helped get me through those times so thanks for being you.
Rory, We know that this is a side project. We are excited to see it begin. I love Rory's skepticism of the super Sketchy Wrecker cable drum! You guys crack me up!
That boom and homebrew winch are something else! It's absolutely the epitome of "don't have it? can't buy it? build it!", but maaaan... Safety factor: Low. Sketch factor: High! (Safe Working Load: Until it starts to bend, then back it off a bit!)
Rory , bro all the fans of the quad 4 , Yourself , Matt's , Fab Ratts and Mr. Layton all know Robby's tow is gonna take a long time ! Just like the Golden Nugget ! You all have buisiness' to run and jobs to do ! Lives to live , just more content for us to enjoy !! Keep doing what you and your crew are doing ! We'll be here watching !
If I lived in Moab, I would probably spend most of my time in my two favorite national parks, Arches and Canyonlands. You guys are so lucky and the rocks you drive over and around are awesome. 🙂
Matt is too busy figuring out how not to carry any tools on the recovery vehicles. And forget about the running out of gas situation. :) (I give Matt the same feedback on his channel)
That truck is awesome, I can't wait to see this build. I already know it's going to be beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us. That was something to find that "Roosevelt" button under the seat. Can't wait to see how that is incorporated?
Cab looks great already sitting on the frame like that - this is going to be fun to watch and laugh along. Thanks for taking us all along - we can't wait.
Oh man... I miss shop talk! And I'm sure you guys edited out plenty.... 20 years as a Tech, and I destroyed my shoulder. (let heavy shit fall!) I'm looking forward to that side of the build as well! And yes... V10's are good for one thing. Taking gas and turning it into noise!
The only thing better than watching you do this , would be to be there working on the build ! I get it you need to set pieces together to see the assembly order . Get-r-started ! 🍻
Awesome. Starting a great build. Rory has the eye for potential problems. Way to go. Do it rite or don't do it at all. Is my motto. Gonna be real nice n sturdy when done. Excellent team .
The three of you are all great on screen and have natural presence but I'd like to take a moment to say that the dude who is editing your video is doing a tremendous job! Thank you for for sharing your experience for free on youtube!
i'm really loving the look of the headlights on the back of the cab being used as work lights, i think thats a really awesome touch and this is going to be a sweet rig when its all done
You guys are all AWESOME! I have no problem waiting for the build videos! Glad you are making the build SAFE! Keep up the awesome work!! Much love from Canada!

I know it’s not a Model T but Trail Mater and Tin Lizzy would be a pretty neat pair.
Not much being said about this build... will be an awesome truck when it gets done.
Wonder whats happening with this

Great news!! You're getting started on the old "Robby Layton" wrecker!!! That thing is going to be SOOOOOOOOOOO cool!!!

You got to love the ingenuity of whoever built the wrecker boom!!! Run whatcha brung!!
Take your time. Gives me something to live for😂. Also the V 10 never missed a gas station. One of many thing they can't pass.

Hard-working man,
Thank you for your honesty and the jokes you make about the comments.
I love watching your videos.

I am intrigued. I would love to see the old instrument cluster back in it and working. That would give it just the right look.
Awesome 👌 my favorite part of your channel is the fabrication.
Rory this build is going to be great!!!!! I like the idea of using the iron block 350 chevy very good choice. You have a great crew. Safety is differently number one. Thanks again for sharing.☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Chipi Chapi! Love it when he comes around! Oh and small block Chevy for the win. That's the engine that paved this beautiful country. 👍
I've been looking forward to this build. I't going to be interesting to see what you do with this old truck.

I think Rory is the realist of them all because he keeps it a buck 💯 with everything and everybody. He doesn't sugar coat ish!!
Robbie made the right choice for the building of this rig to be in your hands ✋
I only saw the tittle yet and i already know it's gonna be a good one ! Thanks Rory and the team :)
Ok, now that i watched, i will be here for the rest, as i'm not offended yet ! A promise is a promise :D

Rory I love your contacts you’re down to earth builder keep it up and stay safe
The engineering genius of the AA is the genesis of this build. You will have to remain at the top of your game because the lizzard is watching you.
The Lizard needs a name. After all, during the tow he was the fastest lizard in Utah! And for all we know he'll just spend the winter in a corner of the shop ticking off the progress list on the Studleybaker.
Good God have you bitten off a mouth full with that project... I'm with you for an old school small block for power...
You have me hooked. I look forward to future videos of this build. Thanks!
The stories that old tow truck could tell 😔 so much history. All the people it helped and now its coming back to life. And doing it again. Just awesome.
It’s a joy to watch Rory think and design out loud. Only a person who knows what they are doing can do that.
I think im the only person who like the V10 lol. But 450,000 miles all original. Love the channel and the genuine love for the fans!

And thank you for the boom camera shots. You can see rocks and what not from what you see, also the bumps you hit
Now I think I need to build my Mower Wrecker.

AWSOME project!!! Looking forward to seeing this!
Patience grasshoppers! You can't rush cool, and there's a LOT cool going on here, from the truck, to the build, to the builders 👍👍
Rory I appreciated the emphasis on safety. Nostalgia is good but as always safety wins the day. Trying to maintain nostalgia can be disastrous.
Not just the cracks in the tow arm, but I bet there is plenty of metal fatigue that can't be seen. Definitely the right choice to build a new one.
