  • Too few pulls to perfect, but full uppies was fun. Will get back to this later in 2nd guild, maybe I do better?

    Great vid mate, it actually inspires me to play Disc again lol. I've played it before during S1 and S2 of SL in m+ pretty well, however I got discouraged from continuing with it as I've struggled healing in raids. Comparing your performance to mine though clearly I've made mistakes haha. May i kindly ask you to answer a couple of questions about how you approach each encounter as a disc priest?
    1) From my observation there are two types of ramp. One involves spreading about 9 renews, followed with 2 casts of PW: Radiance, followed by Shadowfiend and Evangelism to make Atonement last longer. And while all those effects are up weave in as many Smites and Mind Blasts as possible. Second Ramp involves using Rapture to coat 9 shields, 2 casts of PW: Radiance and Shadowfiend. According to your latest logs at Magmorax you've opened up with the first ramp. However in the video here you've opened up with your Rapture ramp plus Shadowfiend, with Evangelism saved for your second ramp. How do you make a decision on what ramp you're using at any given time? Do I understand correctly that Shadowfiend and Evangelism, whilst both being important cooldowns, should not be used within the same ramp?
    2) When you do not ramp I noticed you simply continue with your Smites and purge the wicked refresh until the time comes to start your next ramp. My understanding in the past was that in between the ramps I have to slot in 1 PW: Radiance to help with healing the raid, as well as spot healing with flash of light. Do you not recommend that? I'm also a little surprised how you do not run out of mana because I was much lower at the time when I played the class (probably incorrectly lol).
    3) Final question from me is I want to understand when I should ramp. Obviously one wants to ramp shortly before damage lands, so to that effect I'm thinking about configuring my big wigs to shout a countdown for example 10 seconds before the mechanic takes place, so I know I need to start spreading atonements. Looking at your video however I do not hear any voice reminders or indications that you should start preparing for a ramp and neither do I see any Kaze MRT reminders. So how do you do it? Do you simply already know the fight, so you dont need the reminders?

      Thanks for the kind comment, happy I inspire people to play the spec I love ;D.
      For question 1; You are not looking really at any number of renews or shields for your ramps, you care about total number of single target atones, you want to spread 10 atonements with shields, renews, and flash heal (which applies 2 atonements, 1 on yourself from binding heal, and 1 on target.)
      Then 2 radiances to cover the entire raid.
      Inside the ramp, you are not looking to smite primarily, you are looking to send mind blast --> dark reprimand --> shadow word death because each of these spells are amplified by abyssal reverie, shadow covenant, and they trigger "Inescapable torment," another one of our talents.
      Smites that occur inside our ramps are still useful, because they give double cooldown reduction for our pets(our 4 sets smite counts towards void summoner), which is where most of our burst lies.
      This last bit also answers another question, you ABSOLUTELY must combine shadowfiend or mindbender with evangelism. Taking a look at the right side of the tree, we can see that ALL of our power lies inside our pets, if we forego a pet inside our largest ramp (evangelism) we lose incomparable power, imagine a fury warrior using 1 two hander.
      For the last part of the first question, decisions surrounding what I use my cooldowns for is super nuanced, but on Experiments here, I worked backwards from the mechanic I wanted to hit evangelism (strongest cd) on, which was the eruption from thadrion, this occured so early that I could not weave an evangelism before it. Its also worth stressing that evangelism benefits mechanics that deal damage for a longer period of time, whereas rapture deals with burst damage just aswell, since the longer atonement duration doesn't matter when we can top everyone off inside the shorter atonement duration anyway.
      Question 2;
      During this season, and the last season, discs smite importance has gone up, but not for any traditional reason. Smite provides CDR for our pets through the talent "void summoner," when between ramps now you want to press as many smites as possible to prepare your pet.
      Your understanding of how we play between ramps lacks the nuance that the game offers, if I were to offer you an example, if you were playing experiments and sent a radiance between the first few ramps, you'd hit that radiance into **absolutely no damage at all** but massively fuck over your following ramp into a massive 10 million raidwide burst hit, because you'd lose a radiance for the main ramps.
      Another example is rashok, your rule would suddenly apply here, sending radiance into the mini soaks between your big ramps is very appropiate, but because this rule would apply well on Rashok does not take away from the fact that disc offers more nuance than this rule would willingly let up. You are looking to plan out your radiances beforehand, using a viserios spreadsheet to see where they'd ideally go. I share one on my discord, where people can take my radiance planning and use in their own personal notes. To conclude I really want to drive home the point of; radiances are used and cycled such that you are not impeding on uses that would otherwise go into your main ramps, but if you have space to cycle a radiance, that is the correct thing to do.
      Question 3;
      This is very personal, you are essentially talking about what I anchor myself around to figure out when to start ramping. I recommend doing what you think is best for you, I use bigwigs timers.
      For when I start ramping, this is also a bit nuanced, but without pi or lust; I start at 15 seconds before damage hits for evangelism, or 14 for rapture (this accounts for the extra global evangelism demands.)
      With pi, or lust, I take that down to 12-11 seconds, and with both I always send at 10 seconds. This might slightly differ for you depending on haste, but might be a good starting point ;D
