I think this job would have defeated many , good informative film one for the reference shelf , which I’m sure many will come back too , you are a shinning light for many of us Martin thanks for taking the time to film Gavin
Hi Martin glad u done a vlog on changing water pump it looks easier than I thought at least now if mine packed up I know how to change one good job phil was there to help out good bloke Phil is at least now the pump is less noisier now nice one .kev
Hi Kev, quite an easy job to do. Didn’t think I was going to get a new one with it being a bank holiday weekend. Phil played a blinder getting the pump for us. Hope you are keeping well, cheers Martin 😊
Great video on changing the water pump,we had ours go about 8 months ago and had a new one fitted ,by caravan engineer ,so in future if the new one goes anytime ,your video shows how straight forward to fit a new one.Tnanks Martin, keep the good work up.
Hi Chris, Thanks for the feedback, the idea behind doing the fixing/repairing vids is to show you can do the jobs yourself, caravanning is expensive as it is without having to pay for repairs. Thanks for watching and support, Martin 😊
Thanks Martin... I have the same problem but mine is in a Bailey Senator with onboard water tank, so the plumbing is more complex. Alas it has the old style pump. But hopefully after watching you I will have a good idea how to get it done Peter
Another great video Martin Exactly the same happened to us last year , pitched up turned pump on and then nothing ! Checked with my meter and same as you I had voltage to pump but not working. It was actually the pressure switch mounted on the pump, I shorted that out to test and the pump worked. However I phoned Lowdhams’s Huddersfield where we bought the van and it was still under the 12 month warranty and they suggested dropping van off on our way home ( we were in North Yorks). Had it not been under warranty I would have changed the switch myself - as it happened the pump was replaced under warranty. Good advice as ever Martin - keep up the good work H
Hi Howard, I thought about stripping the pump down and testing everything but I wasn’t in the right mood! 😂 I have wanted to update the pump since we got the van but never got round to it. Glad we were able to get hold of one and Phil was kind enough to take Angela to pick it up. Another job down though, Thanks for your continued support, cheers Martin 🙂
Hi Lee, agree fully. I changed my pump on my previous van and if I can do it anyone can. I also had to add the electrical connection as mine did not have the connectors that you had. Keep the videos coming.
Great vlog - our pump burnt out on Day 2 of our holiday. After watching this I was able to order the replacement pump, get it delivered to the nearest Argos 2 days later and fit straight away… Like you whilst away it was a case of restoring water supply, I’ll do the tidying up when I get home :)
Good vid , I would add you want to put an insert into the 12 mm feed pipe before pushing into push fit fitting, otherwise fittings can leak. I know this because I have been a plumber heating gas fitter for over 25 years
Thanks for the video Martin my Bailey Unicorn Seville obviously has the same system and seems rather loud having the van a 2012 for two years now. They say if it isn't broke don't fix it but I'm seriously considering getting the replacement pump as you fitted in your video mine having done ten years now probably save me getting hours from home and it giving up the ghost.
The new pump was a bit quieter but don’t think you will ever get rid of the noise. We just learned to block it out! A new one will probably have better pressure. Thanks for comments and watching
Good video Martin. Had to take mine out of a Unicorn S2 as due to go away post Covid and was checking out everything. Went to sterilise pipework to find pump not working! It was the Blue Whale pump FP0814(B). This pump is meant to be indestructible but it was dead as tested the voltage with a meter which was correct. Then unplugged & checked the motor resistance. about 9Kohm. Stripped down pump & horrible burnt smell from motor. I had only had it switched on for less than a minute to pump around the sterilising solution. Why did it fail Whale?
I’m going to check ours this week, just hope everything is working ok. Don’t want to be buying new parts before we get out again. Hopefully won’t be too long before we all get out there again. cheers
Think my pump has went as well, tried your clean trick from previous video but didn’t help, thinking of getting the service kit- gives you a complete bottom part, rather than replace the full pump… half the price. Have you any experience of using them
Hi Martin. Have you considered repositioning the water drain valve (yellow top) . I have arthritis but it is difficult for anyone to get too? Cheers Nick
Hi Nick, yes I’ve thought about that, I want to move is forward so I can reach it through the external door on that side of the van, it’s is a really awkward position. Will probably film it when I do the job. Cheers, Martin
@@TheCaravanNut Hi Martin. I did as you suggested although not videod it as I am rubbish at it. I just spun the t next to the pump and ran new pipes to a location next to the tray for the on board tank (which is now in the garage). And then drilled a new hole for the drain and filled the old one. Only took about 30 mins including testing. Now on holiday in North Devon on Bayview farmers Caravan site at Mortehoe. The first day the t next to the pump started dripping followed by one of the Elbows. Being a 2011 Seville. I suspect the joints did not like being disturbed so I am replacing all the 12mm connectors. Cheers Nick
I would imagine changing the joints will help, I’ve not looked at doing ours yet but it’s on the list. Enjoy your holiday, hope you get it sorted. Cheers, Martin
I have a series 1 Unicorn Valencia. This pump has started running constantly. There are no leaks or loss from taps/shower. Do I take it apart and clean or just replace? Is it the pump that is at fault?
Hi, another very useful video however we have the same caravan but when we purchased it back in November we had to have a new pump fitted (same as yours) BUT since then we have had problems with the water flow. Ours won’t switch off and the water flow is not very good as if there is air in the system. We have bled every time and have to run the water a lot before it improves. Any ideas ? Only difference to your plumbing is that we still have the internal tank connected via a tee valve......
Hi Gary, a few things you can check; check the pipe going in to the aquarol for any splits, there are to O rings on the inlet (where you plug the inlet pipe) if they are worn it can draw air into the pump. I would also try a drain down kit to push any trapped air out, www.amazon.co.uk/Floe-Touring-Caravan-Drainage-Kit/dp/B005ZC5UBW/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2G844VKC8GURJ&keywords=floe+drain+down+kit&qid=1560034263&s=gateway&sprefix=floe+%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-4 It could also be electrical, changes in voltage can affect the flow, check electrical connections. Hope that helps, let me know how you get on, cheers Martin 🙂
Not been able to use my van for nearly 3 years so found the water pump leaking or squirting water. Followed your video got the pump on order. Looks like the heating liquid has dropped also. Any videos on that?
Hi Martin can I ask did changing the pump stop the pump making the loud jack hammer sound when a tap is opened as it was our first time out in our new Unicorn Valencia this weekend and this noise was very annoying.
No, it still makes a noise all be it quieter. Don’t think you will ever get rid of it completely, joys of having an onboard pump. If you come up with a solution let me know. Cheers
Me again I cleaned the old pump no joy it’s knackered. So I’ve got the same pump as u now and just fitting it. But at this point I can’t fit the strainer or dirt collection thing to it as I haven’t got enough pipe for it now. Is it safe to use without for now?? Cheers
That’s what happened to my old pump, it just gave up. It will still work without the filter as there shouldn’t be anything in the water, but if anything gets into the pump not sure how that would affect the warranty. The new pumps are far better 😊
Hi Nick, if you are taking about the upright white cylinder next to the pump that’s not a filter. It’s a surge damper to helps smooth the flow of water. It does need replacing every now and then. Hope that helps, Martin
Thank you Martin, do you also have a pump in your Aquaroll...?..You must do why two pumps..I don't understand mate ? Im not sure if I have one of these with out looking..when I next go down to the storage which will be on Saturday, as I need to top up the Gas cylinder....My Unicorn is a serious 3 ..the pump is std, one that fits in the side and down to the Aquaroll.
Hi, this is the main pump for the water, the pipe in the aquaroll is just to feed the water in with a filter on the end. Not sure what’s on your Unicorn? Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
Martin I’m trying to clean my water pump out as losing pressure it’s the old one u had but I can’t disconnect the pipes going into it can you help please I’m pretty desperate cheers
Hi, yes, the pipes are push fit. If you push the gray collar in towards the pump and pull the pipe away from the pump that should work. Let me know how you get on, cheers Martin 😊
The Caravan Nut cheers for getting back to me I did figure it out in the end but it did stump me for an hour. Pump all cleaned out was filthy now pump is running but full of air taking a while. But thanks for messaging back
The Caravan Nut sorry to bother u again but how long would it take for the air to fully go from tank as I’ve been running pump for 20 mins there’s been an odd splurt of water but just air and glugging noise. Can I take half or longer?
When I did it I drained it down twice before I got it right. I would start again, make sure tap slightly open when drawing water through. Having said that my pump only lasted another 6 months and had to get a new one. Cheers
