Hello. I am just here for the basics of a pirate ship, I will be changing a few of the steps to achieve the look I am going for, but thank you so much for all the tips. Doing a Pirates of the Caribbean birthday for my grandson, even got Capt Jack Sparrow going to hunt treasures with the kids. So I need a ship cake if the black pearl.
Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. How many kids will feed this sized cake please? Can I store a completed cake in the fridge or the decor will be ruined? Thanks again!
It depends on how you cut, but I estimate you can at least has 10 big slices (each slice is 1 inch thickness, but 5 inch wide), if you can cut it smaller, then probably get 15-20 slices. I usually use ganache & buttercream to cover my cake (under fondant), so I just leave the fondant cake in room temperature. (it is the easiest way to store fondant cake). If you really want to store your cake in fridge, you have to put the cake into a cardboard box, covered with a lid all the time . Once you take the cake out, do not open the box for at least 1 hour. Let the cake stay inside the box and gradually reach room temperature with the lid on all this time. This will reduce the condensation on the fondant, it will still sweat, but not as serious. If the lid is opened immediately after taking out from the fridge, then the fondant can be over-sweat and dripping colour.
I'm hoping to make this cake for my daughter's birthday but would need to make it a day before the party. Is there a way to preserve it to avoid the fondant sweating from condensation the following day?
Usually I make the cake 2 -3 days in advance and just keep it at room temperature. No sweating at all. Do you live at hot humid area (30 degree Celsius) ?
I read a lot of ppl who have to keep their cake at fridge because they live in hot humid area, they boxed the cake (cardboard box), covered with lid, after you take the cake out, pls do not open the lid for at least 2 hours, it will greatly reduce the problem of condensation. However, I find that it is also very difficult to find a space in the fridge to store a big cake. For me, it is usually easier to use the buttercream/ganache that can stay at room temperature for a few days. Once the cake is decorated, just leave it at room temperature until 🎉 party
Thank you for posting such an AMAZING tutorial. Last year I made your pirate ship cake for my friend's daughter....I couldn't believe how nice it turned out. You made this amateur cake decorator look, and feel, like a pro. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. : ) Only down side: this year she requested a dinosaur cake!!! (insert "look of horror emoji" here)
Hi Irma, wanted to make your fabulous pirate ship cake for my Granddaughter’s birthday. Found a recipe for chocolate mud cake (which apparently is good for carving) I have used a 10inch square cake pan and even though I have wrapped the outside of tin with newspaper and cooked the cake on ‘140 fan oven ‘a large crack has appeared. I couldn’t find a link to your page for a 10 inch chocolate cake. Help!
The top part of mud cake always have cracks, crusty top, pls trim the top part away and check if the cake inside is moist, if the cake is moist you can still use the cake! (After trimming the top part of the cake, you still need a 10 inch high cake, and you cut it into 2 layers, each layer is 1 inch high)
You can try the planet cake chocolate mud cake recipe if needed, a lot of cake decorators use this recipe, but having cracks on top of mud cake is normal , just have to trim the top part. Using cake pan strips can also help to bake more even cakes
@@charmainegobalani7913 Firstly, we need to keep whipped cream in refrigerator all the time. However if you take out fondant cake from the fridge, fondant will sweat immediately due to condensation. So usually I just keep my fondant cake at room temperature and I do not use whipped cream. Secondly, if you put fondant topper directly on top of whipped cream cake, you can see the colour go to the cream. Thirdly, chocolate ganache or buttercream can hold its shape a lot better than whipped cream, whipped cream is very soft and melt easily in room temperature.
Its a beautiful pirate ship cake thank you for a detailed video👏

This is so neat. Thank you. Would you tell what kind of paper is used to cut the sails? Thank you.
Thank you very much, I just use normal A4 paper, the sails are inedible, just for decoration only.

It is the same cake 😄👍
Sorry I have another question. How many batches of your mud cake mix did you use to make the 10x2 and 10x1 square cakes please?
Ttcpcos aussie One 8”x2” round mud cake recipe can make One 10”x1” square cake. You need 2 batches to make 10”x 2”.
@@IrmasCakeTutorials thank you so much!
Does whipped cream will do aside of ganache?
You can use ganache or buttercream, but not whipped cream 😉thx for your comment

Could you please tell me how much brown fondant you used?
Ttcpcos aussie Around 400g brown fondant, and 150g brown gum paste
Hi what is the weight of the cake
sorry that I usually do not weight my cake, it is a 10" square cake (2 inches high) OR Two 10" square (1 inch high)
@@IrmasCakeTutorials okay
Hi so is this a 10 by 10 inch square pan ?
Emma Ipanema Frank that’s right! You can have 10”X 10”x 1” (2 cakes) or 10”x10”x 2” (1cake, but cut into 2 layers horizontally)
Hi there, can you send me the recipe for the cake? So I can see quantities needed. Thanks
If I get a 375g pre mix how many do I need?
❤️👍💯👌
How many people would this cake serve?
To me, it is around 10 serves (1 inch thick). It depends on how you cut it, if you cut it smaller pieces for each serve, then you will have more.
