    I'm so tech challenged that I still use a landline. Your instructions have saved the day and brought our old Windows 7 computer back to life!!! I set it up to look at old photos and to play games on it that we don't have on our Windows 10 desktop or Windows 11 laptop. Of the dozens of videos that I checked out yours is the very BEST!!!! I applaud you for sharing this knowledge for those of us who were up a creek---so to speak. You have made this 75 year old lady very happy!!! THANK YOU!!!!

    Great tutorial, thank you. The most important hint was 'patience' when Windows seems to be stuck... (I ran disk cleaning before, then I faced this problem.) Patience is what we really lack in these situations ;-)

    It worked! Like others have commented, I did a disk cleanup the day before it got stuck at 100%, and then 35%. Thank you so so much! I found a bunch of useless info on Microsoft forums about running troubleshooters, etc. Your info was exactly the fix I needed, and your video was fast paced, short, and to the point! Love it. I usually can’t bear to sit through a 30 minute video that drones on, which is why I usually don’t watch videos for things like this. But I was so panicked I might have ruined my computer, so when I saw the title of your video exactly explaining my situation I clicked it. I’ve subscribed and gave the video a thumbs up.
    Question - now that the computer is fixed, should we change back the updates from ‘manual’ back to whatever it was before? Was it ‘delayed start’?

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  Год назад +3

      Now it's working, I'd leave the settings exactly as they are. No need to tempt the Microsoft gods LOL. Glad it's working again! Sorry for the delayed response, for some reason, your comment got held for review and I just now saw it! Thx for the sub, I appreciate you!

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  Год назад

      Thank you, I appreciate that. No, it doesn't mean it will forever be stuck there. Although I have seen it happen where Windows just can't proceed because of one bad update. There is always the option to download that update manually (find the KBB number and Google it. You'll find a download link somewhere), then once you have that one installed outside of Windows update environment, you should be able to download the remaining with no problem. But it could also be something ok your computer causing a conflict (driver, program, etc). I'd start with manual download and go from there

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  Год назад +1

      There is no reason to upgrade if you don't choose to, other than security. My attitude has always been "if you haven't been attacked yet, you probably won't be" (meaning the things you use Windows for daily make you a low-risk user). Just bear in mind that over time, you will run into issues with browsers and programs requiring a newer version, but until that time comes, don't worry about it. I have machines that are still running Windows XP, and some that run Windows 11. You're fine :)

      Unsupported is different than "won't work". Seen this before on older systems where you would get an error at the top of the browser window about it being an unsupported operating system, but even in Vista, it would still open (some, not all) websites. It's going that direction more and more because of browser security. Try Brave, Opera, Safari...one of those might actually work in Windows 7 still

      I would still be patient and wait. I've seen Windows take up to half a day to finally start. Did you follow the rest of the steps? I mean, sometimes Windows is just corrupt and needs to be reloaded. I would give it time and see

      @@AskYourComputerGuy guess what? I waited and after 36 Minutes ill reach the save mode but this time i did a „Systemrecovery“ (dont know if its correct in english). I set it 6 days back, and not it works :). But the old Windows Updates from Windows 7 are still here, but im afraid to delete them now, because of that i had this „35“% issue… Probably when i deleted old Windows updates, windows was confused?

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  2 года назад

      You can change the update schedule, but joy sure about the delayed start. I did make another video about how to disable Windows 10 updates altogether. That might help solve your issue, but turning off updates isn't always a good idea. Getting them in huge chunks is where most of the blue screens appear. Use caution!

      @@AskYourComputerGuy On another note, I have another laptop in which the restore points are gone completely, and when I create a new one it is nowhere to be found (Windows 7 also). • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  2 года назад

      Did you verify that you had enough drive space to create restore points? If the drive is not enabled for system protection (which often times it isn't), you have to manually enable it, allocate a portion of your drive for restore points, then you can create them. No I don't have a video out about that, but that's a great idea for my next one! I'm on it!!!

      If you've backed up your files, no. You might be able to do an "in-place" reinstall on Windows 7, that might allow you to keep your files and just replace Windows. To be sure, I'd remove the hard drive and access your data using another machine before reinstalling

      Try and let startup repair do it's thing. You may have to let it do startup repair multiple times and see if it fixes itself. If not, you can always go to the troubleshooting section and undo the latest updates and/or system restore to put it back to where it was prior to the updates. Keep me posted

      Yes they could. Would they? Seems like an awful lot of work. I would just do a flash drive insert and go. You can put a security lock on the back of your machine, but that seems extreme. Put a password on your computer so they can't get into it and uninstall anything. And remove Norton and install Avast for best protection. And it's free.
