In Russia you don't need to swipe a metro card because we don't have zones. There is a single price for all the rides, doesn't matter if you ride 2 stops or 20 stops. :)

Also, if people go back to using cars, Moscow will be in constant traffic jam. You need to leave in the city, to understand what I am talking about.

Hi Simon. There is one place to sleep you haven't considered - a hospital. There are always visitors/relatives of patients who are keeping vigil for loved ones in waiting areas. Sometimes there's a visitor's sleeping room, but mostly it would be the day room of the ward. I was a nurse for 40 years. There are loads of places you can mooch around and not be seen. There are always some night porters around. You could blag that you are visiting someone and need an area to wait around. Security is usually lax. It's just a suggestion.
Wish you'd done more of Russia, its been one of your most interesting so far. Like you said its totally different to what i expected, which is sad really that we have such a perception of Russians being unfriendly, cold and strict.

I did Vietnam several years ago myself and there seems to be some interesting connections between the two, a few of the Vietnamese folk I met could speak Russian as a secondary language, and Nha Trang in particular was a bit of a Russian settlement with multilingual signs everywhere (Vietnamese/Russian/English)
No direct flights from Manchester to minsk. Makes it a hassle and the visa is only eligible on flights into minsk . No travelling from other countries like Lithuania etc
