The first episode was awesome! I don’t mind the changes at all, I actually really love the fresh take on this series. I know some people hate change, but from the point of view of an artist, I can really appreciate the thought they put into everything they changed and why. This is their interpretation of a classic, and I love a fresh take!
Sam Reid as Lestat is amazing. He feels more like Lestat than Tom Cruise did, that’s for sure. From his charm, to his temper, and the way he can’t stifle his laughter when something amuses him.. this feels like the Lestat we fell in love with in the books. His obsession with Louis and the way he kills indiscriminately, effortlessly; this is the Brat Prince, not the monstrous villain Cruise played him as.
Louis’s character, though much has changed, the essentials are there: his wealth and power, his brother’s death, his depression.. Jacob Anderson is charming and I love this version of Louis.
Can’t wait to meet Claudia, and Armand!

But after seeing a lot of this, including the trailer, it looks really interesting as a new adaptation, especially since we're diving into the Jazz Era in New Orleans. As a huge fan of the novels since 1992 and of the movie (for superficial reasons) since 1994, I am beyond thrilled of this new adaptation/ re-imagination of the story. It's much darker, more complex, more sensual, more brutal and more hypnotic. The trailers alone capture the tone and spirit of the novels despite of all the changes made. I can tell that it will be a character (more fleshed out) driven show instead of just a bunch of plot points from the novel. It is called Interview with the Vampire and not Interview with the Plantation Owner. The novel that I read was about a self-loathing human turned into a self-loathing vampire. Throughout the novel Louis was asking questions about the nature of good and evil and what it means for his vampiric existence. He experiences love, loss and grief as human and as vampire. It's about him finally finding his humanity as a vampire (which is ironic). It is a seductive, hypnotic, brutal and violent journey filled with sadness and loneliness (thanks to his toxic relationships with his vampiric companions). It was never about Louis just being a plantation owner. For those of you disappointed and upset about the changes, just go watch a documentary about a plantation owner in the 1700"s. This adaptation isn't for you.

Him being sick in this version, so many years later still opens that up to happen at some future point.

But I will take a shot at this one bc I LOVE the film version! But I will see this bc of curiosity and New Orleans is my home and would love to see it on screen once again. You know I have to say this show was great and Anne Rice would have been so happy with this new adaption of Interview With A Vampire and The Mayfair Witches. This has a new feel to it and brings New Orleans vibe back to live and its alot better than 1994 Interview With A Vampire were Louis & Lestat and Claudia were always fighting and they made Claudia into a brat in the flim and this one is different. Sam Reid nailed Lestat were as Tom Cruise failed. Brad Pitt who played Louis wanted out of this project and there was tension on the set with Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt and in this new adaption they got it right**** I can't wait for season 2 and The Mayfair Witches as well I hope they do The Vampire Lestat Queen Of The Dammed Memonch The Devil and all the vampire stories that Anne Rice wrote on to the big screen...

these two shows basically sit down, take a humongous and unapologetic dump on Anne Rice's life's work, and you think she would like this tripe? This series is a complete destruction of the character of Louis. They took a dump on both Armand and Fareed's characters as well. This was well done enough to have been something of its own, thats the sad part. Its shit as an Anne Rice story but could have been something new with this cast and production value. All they needed was a story, and since they didn't even use the actual story, all this becomes is a slightly less horrible Rings of Power.

I am loving this series two episodes in. Sam Reid is my ideal for Lestat he's excellent, sexy, seductive, arrogant and a French aristocrat raised in a castle in the 1700s. I love how he speaks French and Italian in the show and there are many Easter eggs for us fans who have read the books. The retelling of this series made some smart artistic choices to update and augment the story. Jacob Anderson is excellent as Louis and the change of race for Louis and Lestat's interracial relationship adds some new flavors I am liking. I also like how this is a second interview for Daniel Molloy and Louis 49 years later after Daniel has had a long career as an awarded journalist and the scenes between them during the interview are great. Two thumbs up so far I am looking forward to the rest of the series and am thrilled it has already been renewed for season two!

I am one of those people for whom reading the Interview with a Vampire was a pivotal moment in my life, all those years ago. Am truly impressed by how they’ve tweaked things by making it a “second interview” and added the complexity of race to the already complex equation, but still managed to remain true & respectful to the original work… carrying the spirit brilliantly!!
