  • The doctor is in! Dr. Molly Miller has been backing up Jason Mraz for years (she has been featured on Know. and Look for the Good), worked with the Black-Eyed Peas, Donna Missal, and Morgxn, fronts her own trio, and is part of ABC’s house band for The Bachelor’s Listen To Your Heart. Oh yeah, and that doctor thing, she earned a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Southern California in 2016 and soon after she became the chair of the Guitar Department at Los Angeles College of Music.
In between recording projects, livestreaming performances, and producing gear demos (she’s clearly not letting the pandemic slow her down), Miller virtually welcomed PG’s Chris Kies into her home jam space in Los Angeles, CA. In this Rig Rundown, Miller details her “soulmate” semi-hollow and the dependable Fender Tele (with a brand new neck) that have taken her around the world. Then the self-proclaimed stomp simpleton shows off her favorite pedal pairings that range from subtle, spacy pulsing to a spicy, snarky punch. And she explains why guitar diarrhea isn’t ok.
[Facing a mandatory shelter-in-place ordinance to limit the spread of COVID-19, PG enacted a hybrid approach to filming and producing Rig Rundowns. This is the 39th video in that format.]
Molly Miller has a forthcoming trio album entitled 'St. George', which will be released on GSI records on June 4. The album’s first single “Spry” is out now: • Molly Miller Trio - Spry

Molly’s bookshelf is making me anxious. Looks like it could fall off the wall at any moment and take down that tele, which would bring down all her other guitars...
Just listened to a couple of her new tracks on itunes. Absolutely love what I,ve heard so far. Very much her own thing, but all tele goodness.

Gibson scale length is shorter than Fender. That's why they sound so different. I thought I could put a humbucker on a Fender and it would sound like a Gibson. I was wrong because my Fender still sounded like a Fender but less humm .

Nice job PG. I love Molly's 335 only because it's not a typical red or black 335. The 335 is my favorite Gibson. To me, it's the most versatile guitar they make. I have 5 of them and can't get enough time on them. If I could play in my sleep the 335 would be in my bed with me.

I have a question for Molly about her pink Telecaster, eight months ago she played on a video of her Trio play "King of the Road" but the neck looked like an old Tele neck, not the new one (with the black headstock) she has on the pink Tele in this video. Did she take the new neck off and go back to the old one again?

I’ve never heard of her before until I had watched a video of Molly playing a Comet on Harmony’s RUclips channel. So, where’s her Comet in this video? And that Taylor 619 acoustic guitar looks an awful like Alvarez’s Armrest guitar. I really like the color and shape of the last guitar. I’m like Billy Gibbons, with out the fame & talent, in that I too like weird shaped guitars.

    • @Andyanddiana467

She earned that title, though. As did the Sergeant or officer. And given her accomplishments, one could argue that...yeah, in terms of guitar, she's likely more important/intelligent than you are.
