1975 Land Rover Series 3 - Restoration (Part 5)- Strip down and getting the chassis rolling.

Land Rover Series 3 found parked up for 15 years. The reason it was parked up was because it just wouldn’t start one day. I bought it and trailered it home.
This video just shows what was involved to get the chassis rolling.

A 109!! Nice!! I was after a 109 originally but this 88 came up at a great price literally right next door to me so I had to buy it. I might look for a 109 once this one is done.

How long did the swivel ball rebuild take? Thinking to do mine but wondering a proper schedule as I work a 9-5 during the week

Hi,
If you’re just doing the swivels and not bearings then it really won’t take that long. I think I could do just a pair of swivels in an afternoon. However that does depend on lots of things…
The tools you have available. I’ve got a well kitted out garage and still struggle for the right tool sometimes.
The parts you have available. If it’s your only vehicle then you need to be 100% sure you’ve got everything before you start. The swivels kit don’t have everything you need. I can’t remember exactly what was missing from the kits but there was something. Possibly a gasket.
Shims, order more because the kits don’t have enough and they’re cheap.
And be prepared for the unexpected. You could pull the hubs apart and find the UJ’s in the shafts are worn. So waiting on part turning up to fix stuff like that can delay things.
And if the budget can stretch far enough order up new nuts and bolts. Personally I prefer to go with new old stock genuine Land Rover if I can find them.
