    Upgraded from a fx5200 to a 6600GT on my Dell Pentium 4 3ghz AGP desktop in 2005 as a teenager and the jump in performance was mindblowing! 6600GT may just be the best mid range card ever made and that Pentium 4 Machine still works to this day and whenever I go to visit my parents for a weekend I still boot it up to get a run on half life 2, Doom 3 and other old classics 🙂. Great roundup geek, I think another good retro benchmarking video could be made to show the jump from Pentium 4/single core to the first gen of core 2 duo/Athlon x2 CPU's which was also a big step at the time!

    Great job and a lot of work behind the scenes! I think that you've spent many hours aquiring all that data.
    Although, my opinion is that this test is very relevant as a generation over generation comparison.
    Anyway, if I remember well, the 6600GT was a very good card at the moment, almost as good as the standard 6800 and almost a 100$ cheaper. Another slap from nVidia's side to the pioneers that bought the 6800🙂

It doesen't make sense comparing a GT 6600 cause it's way better than a regular 6600 here it can rivalize with a @9600xt the abit 9550xturbo guru in my case. Thanks!

    The 6600gt agp has slower memory than the pciex version; 900 mhz for agp, 1000 mhz for pciex.
    The memory can usually be overclocked to 1000 mhz.
    I had the pciex version back in the day, i recently acquired the agp version for one of my retro pc's.
    I also have the 6700 xl, which is a Medion version. Slightly faster and 256 Mb.

    This exemplifies why people were better off buying the XT over the base 9600 (or the 9550).
    Fun fact: Paired with the Core 2 Duo, your 9600XT is faster than my 6600GT. In 3DMark 2001SE it only gets 11,425 3D Marks with my Athlon XP 3000+ while my 9550 (250MHz 9600) 8,949 3D Marks.
    The early 2000's - when mid to high range GPU got that good that they needed CPU years newer to see their full potential. Or any potential when it comes to games such as Oblivion. I really should organise my results into a spreadsheet - after all I did the same when I went through my families' computers doing Aida64 memory + cache benchmarking.

    • @MidnightGeek99
      @MidnightGeek99  11 месяцев назад +1

      In the 2000s, the CPUs were way behind the GPUs, case in point, an Athlon64 3200+ bottlenecks a GeForce4 Ti 4200...

      @@MidnightGeek99 If only my PCX 5750 hadn't been dead (along with the PC's motherboard and PSU - scorch mark behind PSU PCB). Comparing the 5700 in my Mum's Sempron 2800+ PC to the 5750 with an E6500K, QX6850 @ 3.6GHz (or Xeon E5450 at 4.4GHz) would have been fun.
      But alas, Intel P45 chipsets really haven't withstood the test of time, and both of my boards ended up dead/effectively useless. Much like the Pentium 4 540J that came with the early LGA775 PC (Northwood P4 HT 3.2GHz with single channel high latency DDR 333 was faster than it with dual channel DDR2 1066).
