As I said to Melinda I have been a vinyl dealer for close to 50 years and I can't remember a time where I was treated poorly because of my vinyl endeavors. Sure there have been some professional conflicts with other dealers but that comes with the territory. I haven't been a vinyl collector in 40 years, instead opting to buy and sell vinyl. Very little gives me gratification like putting vinyl into collector's and music lover's hands. I have contributed an album to Melinda's collection, one that she had always wanted. I sold it to her for a good price and I was more than happy to do so. I have a house full of vinyl, literally tens of thousands of LPs and 45s. I will spend the rest of my life finding homes for all these gems and look forward to continuing the tradition.

      Dear Nate,
You said you don't like people yet you are a person, a people, and therein lies a conflict of sorts.
I say this in earnest because I also don't like people either (and I'm fine with that).
Back to that conflict of interest ...
I'm clearly a person who is part of the people and so are you, so are you and I and others who declare this dislike of people of that persuasion, because we may dislike a dynamic about ourselves so to compensate we find it easier to dislike people?
As is often said, we are privately our own worst critics.
Sometimes I do wonder and then I get that odd headache over one of my four eyes (two if i'm wearing my contacts) and I need to grab two Excedrin that I keep under breakable glass in case of emergencies such as this.
But I do wonder about the honesty within ourselves when we say we don't like people. And should we tell people in advance that we don't like them because we don't like people?
I feel the least harm we can do is inform them of said dislike. That way they are informed within the established boundaries of the circumstance which is the least we can do.
Then again if we don't like people then do we really owe them that at all?
Hmm....so much to ponder at an evening's glance such as tonight as it were.
No matter. Feel free to mull this over. In the meantime I'm going to try this out as a social experiment (notice the irony).
So I'm formally beginning this experiment by informing you that I do not like you Nate...because you are people and I don't like people.
I hope as a gentleman, you'll have the grace to administer the same enterprise to myself.
One last thing Nate. Should you respond to this comment, it won't be read by me, because that would be in blatant violation of me not liking people and I would rightfully be labeled a hypocrite of the highest order, thus shaming generations of Moonys in the process.
      Sincerely,
      -Moony
      PS...
I know what you are thinking and I do agree with you. The planet needs more Daleks and less Elmer's Glue.
      Sincerely,
      -Moony (again)

I'm 54 and have been buying for 50. I've never considered myself a "record collector." I do consider myself a "record buyer." I like music, records are my preferred format. But I'll buy music on any format. This part will make me a grumpy old man but I'm not a fan of the vinyl revival. All its done is drive up used record prices and turn records in to something more than what they are. I have never and will never care about who cut what and where it was pressed. It never mattered before. Original 60's and 70's pressings are nice. But most were played on less than ideal stereo systems. Probably a GE Wildcat. And that is what grinds my gears. Rant over. Every month, I meet with a group of music friends for Sunday breakfast. We've done this for almost 15 years now. This group consists of people I've met at work, at concerts, friends of friends and even one that I went to jr. high, high school and college with. A few members come and go, and now people are retiring and moving away, but this group has truly been a blessing in my life. And believe me, no one thinks our passion for music is silly. Nearly everyone that finds out what our group is about is impressed that we've shared our interests for so long. (BTW, we're in Seattle. Just sayin'. . . )

My music listening history is much closer to yours than Melinda's, but that doesn't keep me from respecting other peoples' taste and approach. I just started watching your channel and I started watching Melinda about two and a half years ago. I saw her video about the friend who made the comment about her "vinyl madness". It's a ridiculous comment. In all my years of collecting Albums the only one who ever questioned why I was buying so many, was my Mother. 🤣 I was around 16 years old. It was more out of curiosity verses trying to dissuade me from buying them. I'm glad I didn't let her discourage me, as I continued to collect the music I love and I have a wonderful record collection today. Anyone who doesn't collect records, can't understand the passion and love behind it. Who cares what others think. I go along my merry way collecting records, I've never let anyone discourage my hobby and I love it!

I, like you, STUPIDLY sold my record collection of thousands of 45's and hundreds and hundreds of albums last year, thinking, yeah, I have digital copies of just about all of it.. Look at all the space I can save. Afterwards, I had severe sellers remorse. I felt like I had sold my soul. I still do have all the original Beatles, Stones, Motown, British invasion groups, etc. from the 60's. Crazy thing is I've probably spent a third or half of the money I made from the collection rebuying the vinyl that meant so much to me.

You are 100% correct. I love Melinda and appreciate her, she's one of the few. Myself, of my 68 years, I've been collecting and hoarding records since I could hold them. I've accumulated 1,000's of records in my lifetime. I became quickly obsessed with watching record changers. I didn't care what was playing, I loved watching them. Then I discovered jukeboxes. When we would go out to dinner, waitresses and others would play the jukeboxes for me because I was transfixed by them, and most importantly, it kept me quiet and out of trouble.
Like many, I really don't have friends who can understand my hobbies, er passions and obsessions, but fortunately I have only one naysayer to put up with, my wife. When people come over, the first thing they do is they have to put their eyes back in, because they popped out. I have alot of recorded media(I don't just hoard records), but not as many as others. They would probably keel over from seeing those collections. Well, I think my friends are dumbfounded, but know better than to say anything negative to me.
You know, I may not understand other's passions in collecting other items, so I never say anything bad about their collections, except maybe the guy who collects cow pies. I support those who have the same passions as I do.
It is so easy to heckle somebody online, because they don't know who you are, and you are invisible. If you don't like comments people leave, it's your page, delete the comments and block the commenter. Most everybody uses another ID than our real names, many relate to our businesses or passions, so there is a bit of anonymity. I am not afraid to share my name and do on occasion. My name is listed as a contributor to published media and other projects.
One of these days, I might even start expanding on my channel, but I am still putting things together. With a wall of LP's, just looking at full shelves may impress some, but I have taken the opportunity to use them to display oddities and my autographed record cover collection. I already have a wall of autographed pictures in my computer, recording and 7" collection room. It is an involved process, but I am slowly getting my wall of CD'a and LP's decorated. First step was putting up half a dozen or so of the original Dave Mason "Alone Together" LP. They were pressed on color marbled vinyl and no 2 are the same. The worst is the Friday Music re-issue done a few years ago, but there is a new one coming out. For the 50th anniversary Dave Mason did a new album, "Alone Together...Again" and the marbled vinyl is great. Because the original masters were destroyed in the Universal fire was his reasoning for re-recording the album. Because Christian recording artists are fairly accessible at their concerts, I have a nice collection of their autographed LP's and CD's. So far, I have autographed Amy Grant and Joe English album covers up. But until I get more up, I ain't ready to show them.
Now, as far as calling the naysayers and nuisance people who post on peoples videos who share our passions, maybe, for you, wankers may not be the best term to use for them, if you know what I mean. Call 'em what they are, idiots and trolls. They might really be already wankers and that would be like calling something that is already red, red.
Love your videos and your expertise. Keep on keeping on and celebrate the young and newcomers to our passions!

I always watch Melinda”s videos. I find her to be informative and very helpful. She is kind with her comments and does know her subject. I’ve seen her latest about the people digging her out for collecting vinyl. I have responded to the video too. I collect vinyl, I’m going to collect until they screw me down in my box.

Records are beautiful. I bought a 12 inch lp vinyl of muddy waters live at Newport in 1960 the other day. Blue vinyl brand new ! Excellent.

Agreed 'Wild Life'; I always loved that album and would sing praises to its existence whenever I would tell friends to check out McCartney's early albums (pre-'Band on the Run'). Interestingly enough, while the album sounds off-the-cuff in many respects (a common criticism by McCartney haters), after reading the book 'Paul McCartney: Recording Sessions (1969-2013). A Journey Through Paul McCartney's Songs After The Beatles', I was surprised to learn how much work he actually put into the album. Regardless, 'Wild Life' has too often been dismissed as minor Paul, and not necessarily worth investigating, but I'm always willing to champion the album as no outlier, but a continuation of the kinds of solid albums released by that Paul from early 1970 onward. Glad you're out there giving it some love so maybe others who don't know the album will check it out!

I have not seen many of Melinda’s videos yet so don’t know how far along she is in her musical journey. I do believe there are many folks new to record collecting who tend to defer to the tastes and expertise of others, given how many voices are on RUclips now. Which is unfortunate, both to the knowledgeable collectors for being burdened as the arbiters of quality and taste, and to the neophytes who don’t trust their own judgement and what they like. This sets up an unhealthy dynamic and nurtures the wankers who need to cut down anyone who is enthusiastic about records, whatever their reasons. To newbies: trust your tastes and don’t fetishize records because someone said “you must own it to be a serious collector”. And above all Have Fun!

Why do people have to be so nasty? Have they nothing better to do with their time? Celebrate the fact that people have a love for music- PERIOD. Who cares what format/s bands/artists or genres they prefer or choose to collect? As specifically regards to Melinda, I've watched a few of her posts and she comes across as a genuine person who loves music and loves sharing that passion- her personality is very engaging. How could any reasonable person hate on her? I suspect there is a great deal of misogyny at play from a bunch of men of a certain vintage who have an outdated neanderthal outlook on life. In the spirit of Ru Paul Charles "Everybody say "Love"!
