SW, Thank you so much for this great organized analytsis and study, THat "Body and Soul" is CHOICE, and TWNBAY standard is good too !When Monk was asked in 1955 about his "weird choeds," he said, "They are perfecly logicl." True that- And they sound good too. This channel is WONDERFUL !
Bonjour Stijn Wauters, Merci beaucoup pour ton travail !!, t'es génial !!!!!, Grand bien à toi !!! Hello Stijn Wauters, Thank you very much for your work!!, you're great!!!!!, Much good to you!!!
Quite fun I’ve been passively suppressing my monk obsession as I was losing interest in music but this brought me back to where I started of imitating monk and striding with it Thank you for reminding the fun of it!!!
Sir, thank you for all your dedicated videos that gives tons of pure knowledge to the world. In my country the tutorial you've been making is called 'dried foods' meaning 'all unnecessary things taken out leaving only nutrition '. You may not have as much views as those so-called musicians on RUclips but I want to tell you , that the work you've been doing is unique and probably one of the most useful jazz tutorials on this planet. And your videos arre doing great influence, I’m a Asian student learning jazz in a music school and half of my jazz learning schoolmates is watching your videos. I leave this comment just to let you know you're doing a amazing thing for not only youtube but also to the world. And i hope everything goes well in you life now and future because such a good person and teacher like you deserves it!
Thank you so much for your kind and supportive words! That really means a lot to me! I am glad to hear that you and other students can use the tutorials I put on youtube, and that you like the concept! That encourages me to keep going. Again: thank you so much!
hi for me its a pleasure to get the monk voicings fro me it will be a great pleasure that you in the future the voicings of for example bill evans red garland bud powell mccoy tyner oscar peterson all those great pianists their voicings will be too shown for me and others thank you very much Fabian Cosster
Nice material, but I would think of those chords you labelled #11 as b5 instead, especially as Monk was fond of using the whole tone scale with them. #11 would be more of a lydian dominant sound (mode of melodic minor ascending), which these don’t seem to be.
Thanks a lot! And you're right: the b5 might be more accurate to Monk's approach. But I would think that the #11 is more common in notation nowadays? (the b5 might be confusing in comparison to the -(b5). And personally I link the #11 to the tritone substitution too. So on Bb7 I would think of tritone E7 (=#11) instead of Fb7 (=b5). But it depends on the tonality too: A7 in the key of G would be A7(#11), but A7 in the key of Bb would rather become A7(b5) (tritone being Eb7)... But again: the b5 could make more sense in Monks approach! :-)
Wow, no teacher like you. You are truly the best
Thank you so much!
That was your thesis: Master’s acquired! Great job! 🎼👍🏾
Please please please can you do another Monk video! This one is so good
You nailed it. The Body and Soul sounds like Thelonius Monk played it!
Your treatment of Body and Soul made me burst out laughing in exactly the way Monk's playing does. That was perfect.
You’re the best jazz piano teacher on RUclips. I love Monk ❤️
Thank you!
I love the way you think, man!
Thanks, Brian! :-)

The naming convention doesn’t matter. All that matters is the sound
