The problem with ice isn't with freezing that ailerons and flaps as much as it is with it building up on the leading edge of the wing and disturbing the airflow over the top of the wing.
I don't know where this person got there info about how planes work but, the flaps don't control the "steering" for the plane, that is elevators and ailerons doing that. Only thing the flaps do is either generate lift at take-off or help slow the plane down on landing.
Alex Barnard it’s also the wrong explanation of why ice matters. It needs to be removed primarily because it interferes aerodynamically with the plane’s ability to generate lift.

@@spitfire125 Those snow plows have at least 4 drive wheels. Even if only one dually rear axle is driven. In the mountains of northern AZ, they drive both tandem dually axels. No idea if the fronts are driven on the plows.

They should look into underground ice melting system. So much manpower, so many hours, the other just turn it on and it's wet balcktop
Wouldn't work, way to many variables to go wrong plus the cost to replace would be steep, I live an hour away from the airport, the system they have now is best

Or you could just do some plowing to make it safe enough and have that military cargo jet (I think c-17) come blast and melt it all off the runway.
Or you could just use salt or an other hygroscopic material to dry the surface faster

Cold temperatures are ideal for flying and turbine performance.
100% incorrect, the colder the air is the less density there is; therefore the warmer the air the more lift is generated and the better the engines will perform
This is also why cruising altitude is higher
