Really enjoyed this video, Lynn! I started writing short fiction this year and it made me realize I can't write short stories cause I'm an overwriter so my stories have been turning out to be novellas instead 🤣 But I've grown to really enjoy writing shorter fiction and I wanna continue writing them in between writing full length novels! 🐛
Short stories are the best and the worst 🤣 you get such great immediate satisfaction when you finish it but then I get ahead of myself and want to give them all trilogies 😭 great job compiling them all together! Looks like Such a fun project
Whooo Lynn video! These always put a smile on my face. Also thank you for your backlog of streams, one of them got me through my writing goal from yesterday when it was past midnight and I really needed to just get those words on the page.
Oooo loved this video! All your ideas and titles sound so intriguing. The daily short story challenge is such a good idea. Would love to see that. Started my short story journey this year. None finished lol but hope to get to them all next year.
@@kenbryan339 tysm!! I'm really excited to give daily short stories a try once I get the chance. I'm excited for you to get your shorts done next year!!
omg this is so fun!! I would love to do this one day 💕💕 i start a lot of things and almost never finish hAHA so watching this was super motivational!! YOU'RE AMAZING LYNN i can't wait to read ALL of these
Short fiction is definitely a skill I want to work on! I’m known for starting but not finishing shorts 😅 it’s amazing that you got through two in one day!!!
How many short stories can I finish in a day? Then proceeds to take on the entire plot of an epic fantasy novel for the first one 😅 All the best for the new year!
lol no worries, i get curious about fonts too! i use times new roman and arial [bold/italic] for my 'basic' text and for my fancy script, it depends on the vibe I'm going for with the video! but lately I've really been enjoying Old English Text for a more gothic/academic vibe (two genres I write in) and a font called Aston Script for the more cursive/fancy look.
this is so exciting to me!! I haven’t written a short story in years, but I’ve been itching to exercise those muscles again, so I went back and reread some of my old work that I never submitted and it makes me want to revise them and find the right lit magazine, if I can 🥹🪱
hi! love your vids lynn! I was wondering what walking pad you have and if you'd be willing to share how long you have it and if you recommend it? I've been thinking about getting one and there are just so many options hahaha thanks!
@@kayri687 hi, tysm!! I currently use the new walking pad/treadmill from flexispot, which they were kind enough to send to me-and I really like it, mostly because it's fairly lightweight and easy to store and move around!
lynn! i know you probably won't see this, but since you've published a few short stories, can you make a video on the submission process for short stories and your experience? i'm going to submit short fantasy fiction to magazines around spring and i haven't found many videos on this.
hi! yes, i would definitely consider making a video on that! if you're looking for resources in the meantime, i know that shaelin bishop and kelley tai are also in the short story scene and talk about their experiences/expertise, and km fajardo also documented her experience publishing her excellent short piece last year as well! also feel free to shoot me an email if you have any specific questions, i'd love to help out.
🪱 Ahh, great motivation for me to write! Have 2 weeks off and I'll be using it to work on my book. Merry Christmas/Festive Season Lynn and everyone in the comments. May 2025 be a great writing year for us all 🌟
🪱🪱 Took me a while to find the worm emoji! Sorry it took me so long to comment! I totally meant to watch this before Christmas (my birthday!) and then… did not. That’s on me! 😬 Sounds like you still have many amazing short stories to work on! Having 10 left is incredible and I’m intrigued by all of them! I would love to see you do another short story challenge. I’m especially fascinated by Project Worm because it’s a contemporary horror and I love stories with a contemporary voice. I started writing original short stories in elementary school, then moved onto fanfic in high school, but a lot of the fanfic I wrote in high school/college/grad school are short one shots. I started taking my original fiction writing seriously in 2012 and wrote a ton of short fiction in the same universe (literally probably 100 short stories or at least 50-not even kidding) and many novellas, so that’s where I come from. When I finally started submitting short fiction in 2018/2019, it wasn’t as intimidating because I’d been submitting to screenwriting contests for years. I think the most short fiction I wrote (recently) was in 2022, where I wrote one flash fiction or short story per month. But I haven’t done it since. My traditionally published debut is also a short story (YA thriller) and it was a genre totally out of my wheelhouse. I’m more comfortable writing contemporary fantasy and literary fiction. I did write a YA horror short story earlier this year for another traditionally published anthology, but it got rejected and I really haven’t written anything since. But one of my short stories I’ve been submitting for 4 1/2 years is getting published in September 2025! Finally! I know what you mean about writing longer short fiction, though! It takes a lot more mental energy. It’s exhausting! Anyway, here’s to both of us writing more short fiction in 2025! I know I’ll need the motivation! 🥳🎉
happy belated birthday!! i hope you have a wonderful holiday/birthday season!! i loved reading about your short fiction journey. fanfiction and self-indulgent short fiction are such good places to cut your teeth as a writer imo! and i'm so excited for your 2025 short, and i hope we're both able to write more cool stuff next year
this is making me want to try writing short fiction again. it's been a very long time since i last did you mentioned submitting short stories and that got me curious if you've considered ever publishing all your short stories in one collection? idk how marketable that is compared to a full novel lol but i was wondering 🪱
i highly encourage you to go for it!! the thought has crossed my mind briefly before, but i don't think i'd publish a collection at any point in the near future! I don't have a strong enough backlog at this time, but it would amazing to consider once i build the roster up a bit more. tysm for watching!
