  • HARRIER HELVELLYN PRO CARBON FIXED LENGTH Z-POLES REVIEW. With mountain ultra marathons springing up all over the place and lots of runners wanting to push their boundaries when it comes to distance, running poles have almost become an essential part of our trail running kit. Over the years I've used several different types of poles from lots of different brands but today we are taking a look at Harrier Trail Running's new Helvellyn PRO carbon fixed length Z-poles. I was fortunate enough to get a pair sent out to Chamonix when we were making our final preparations for the TDS at UTMB. I tried them out on a long training run before the race and was so impressed with how they performed, I stowed them away into my race vest and used them for the 145km and 9100m of elevation in the TDS. So, you could say that the poles got a thorough testing!
    Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

    As always, very interesting video! Congratulation again for the TDS. For any race idea: there are a few good ones in Quebec! I know, it is far from UK, but if you want to find good ones, QMT110 (Quebec Mega Trail: the 110 is for 110 km, but there is also 160 km and 80 km) or UTHC 125 (Ultra Trail Harricana, 125 km, also offering 80 km and 65 km) are nice and challenging, UTCC 113 km (Ultra trail des Chic-Chocs) is a real challenge. I did the UTCC 62 km and it was the toughest race I ever did. Or, in October, we have the Bromont Ultra, very beautiful path and views. Anyway, Stay safe and keep on running ! :)

    Still using their adjustable poles, and are fantastic.. and they’ve survive the occasion catch in a rock hole too.. their gear is at a budget price, but a very premium standard…
    On the subject of races you can do.. how about the Ultra trail Snowdonia races by utmb? You can give us a comparison to the big boy n girl races of chamonix 😬
    Ps: I’m hopefully doing it May 2023 it’ll be my first official 50k and second mountain run.. crossing my fingers for successful training this time 😂 poor old legs during my first mountain run, 27mile marathon last July. Oof 🤣

    They look great Loyd, although I'm docking you some points for saying 'ZEE' instead of 'ZED' 😄. I think the feature of clipping in the mud basket is very clever. One thing worth mentioning is that tips can wear down and are they replaceable?
    I have the Leki Carbon Micro with the gauntlet system. I really like them but would be interested to try a different type, as these are the only poles I've ever had.

    • @harrier_trail_running
      @harrier_trail_running Год назад +2

      I'm sorry Ian the tips are not replaceable, but we have really heavy duty rubber tips to protect the spikes on tarmac and if used on trails and grassy terrain the spikes dont wear down as they're carbide.

      @@andycleary We can't keep up with demand in the UK so that's why we haven't expanded to EU, there's too many issues since brexit having to register for tax in each country, dealing with logistics around post, customs, and then offering a decent returns service. When we do it well do it properly but at the the moment it doesn't make sense to split our stock between more markets and run out faster unfortunately, sorry about that. A lot of people use a forwarding service for Ireland and seems to work ok.

Will be able to offer it as we grow and can split to another market.

    As a subscriber I watch and like all your videos. In your TDS training and racing videos, as well as in this pole review video, the way you hold poles is not optimal. Harriers' pole guide video that you link to, which I have watched many times in the past, talks clearly about it.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Год назад +1

      Thanks Ella, really glad you're enjoying the channel and thanks for subscribing. Like a lot of things when it comes to running, it's personal. I obviously know the way your meant to hold running poles and I've tried it many times but it doesn't really work for me. Also a lot of clips in the videos are me stopping, putting the camera down capturing the clip and moving on, so I wouldn't judge the way I hold them from those clips. I'm not trying to show people how to use their poles on my videos, that's why I linked the brilliant Harrier video.
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏

    For me nothing comes even close to Leki's strap system. It gives me so much more control over the poles and I don't actually have to grip the poles. At least here in the EU they also sell significantly below MSRP.

    Hey Loyd thanks for this wonderful review. If my height is 170cm (around 5 feet 7) the correct pole fixed length size should be 115cm but if only 120cm is available is that OK?. Sorry I'm new to using poles so I assume getting 120cm is better option than the 110cm
