    What are your TOP 3 Devon Larratt moments in armwrestling?

    • @troytueller9992
      @troytueller9992 3 года назад +15

      1. When he beat jerry.
      This may not be a huge match historically, but the intensity is the best. For me that was an incredible match, when Devon caught Jerry’s press in round 3 and managed to beat him in an awful position is still amazing to me. He never went outside with Jerry even once.
      2. When Devon beat John in 2008.
      Much more historical moment, what Devon did that day, no man in history has ever done before. He CREAMED John. I believe nobody on planet earth could have beaten Devon on that day over all time.
      3. When he beat Pushkar
      It was that day that he officially became number 1 right and left handed on the planet. And if I’m not mistaken, the first ever in history to hold both titles. Truly a legendary and inspiring individual.

    Great picks! I think his performance at the 2004 Super Star Showdown was a big moment for him (though not necessarily a big moment in armwrestling history). It was the first time that many Americans really took notice of him, and he had wins over Marcio and had an AMAZING hook match with John in the finals. Sure, John chose to go there, but he was very surprised by how hard he had to work to beat him.

    • @Alex-1750

      I agree ! No wonder my favorite match of his is a loss (😂) but joking aside he gave Brzenk (who was good shape - unlike during their 2008 match )almost all he could handle.
      2004 Super Star Showdown for me as well.
      2012 Pushkar LH second
      Third I would say winning 2016 LH WAL despite undergoing surgery the same year?
      Class was stacked as hell with Bath , Sill , Ballinger , Mask etc.
      I’m not sure about the third , could be the 2012 war Vs Tim Bresnan.

    So happy John got one back in 2015. John, Engin and Devon are the 3 greatest armwrestlers ever.... 4,5,6... Pushkar, MT, Cyplenkov, 7,8,9. Toddzilla, Rustam, Jerry.
    Levan, vitaly and such can't be ranked, only because I believe they have the greatest yet to show. It would be very very difficult to crack into that top 3... I believe nobody will ever truly give John any contest for the #1, honestly Engin either, there supreme dominance over decades is unfathomable, I believe that top 3 (John, Devon, Engin) is set in stone just about

    Devon won so many matches by letting opponents think they still got this round at the moment he was allready comfortable he won it. He never went for pin in early rounds, the only problem he had in his whole career basically, was stopping the hit. If he could do that, he would win.
    But again, if he would stop it, he would go into position where he would let opponent think I still have this round. And than, trough his insane endurance, he would burn opponents in early rounds and having better endurance win later.
    Maybe the best approach for him would be if he stopped you, and stopped you in somewhat not an inch from the pin position, you better let this round to him and save energy for another good hit.
    He basically exploits almost every armwrestler weakness: stubborness.
    And he obviously could find those positions where he could convince his opponents they are still in a match.
    Devon has very high table IQ, God level endurance, and PERFECT technique, from the gripping on I cant even remember seeing last time him having worst starting position.
    Oh, ofc, he had pretty unique leverages also, being very tall.

    Devon beating John in 2008 is like beating Michael Jordan in a 60 second 3 point shootout but his wrist was injured and he didn’t have time to prepared up to that day. He has tons of games that he plays throughout a year and wins them all. Then you squeeze a match in when he isnt ready. Then you come out of the bleachers with no international titles or big tournaments wins and a few matches a year and you win against Jordan and say you’re the best in the world. And everyone says don’t make excuses for John but it’s totally okay to make excuses for Devon in 2012 against Tim Brensan. Maybe not the best comparison but you get my drift.

    • @kasparov937
      @kasparov937 3 года назад +1

      Good point, so why no rematch in 2009? Why didn't John pursue Devon to prove he really was the best, or he could have just cancelled that 2008 match and left it till a later date, that's his responsibility to come in 100%.
      Devon was smashing everyone around that time:
      Bath 6-0
      John 6-0
      Randall 2-0
      Bresnan 5-1
      Pushkar 5-1
      Lupkes 6-0

    • @QuietToproll
      @QuietToproll 3 года назад +1

      @@kasparov937 John didn’t cancel the match because he didn’t want to let Neil Pickup (organizer) down. John even said in 2008 “Devon’s gonna kill me in 3 weeks if Neil sets this up”. And he said something similar in a podcast with Ryan Bowen in 2019. Not taking anything away from Devon that was his prime years. I just want people to know the facts behind that match and why it’s not historical like people say. If only John was in good shape then it would’ve been historic if Devon won.

    I think we gonna see similar fighting style in Devon vs Todd next month just like Devon vs Andrey.
    He gonna win his hand while Todd gonna try to push through with his arm power

      We already saw that last time they met. Devon lost his hand every round and it still was a very close match which ended 3:2. I wonder how Michael Todd will react if roles are reversed and Devon takes his hand. How good can he pull in that position?

    Hello Coach Ray and Community, i have a question about me having small and thin hand. What is the best tecnique to avoid disadvantage. I feel like toprolling my opponent often has too mich controll with his fingers surrounding my hand. So i try to hook and not going into fighting fingers or toprolling. I would be happy about helping advice

    Devon is just classy in the way he treats people. But the biggest moment for arm wrestling was his spar with the Mountain, and how decent he was to the man. No one could believe that Skinny Larratt against the BIG BIG muscle bound strongman. Thats when everyone got the education that size did not equal strength

      But Devon had some "issues" in his arms and also probably is getting physically "older" quicker than others like Michael (who probably is in his strongest moment?). He said his prime was arround 33-34. That makes sense because imo he was the best from 2008 to 2012.
      Still can beat Michael I think. Will see.
