    The part about Hellen’s movements being described like a bird’s rather than a human’s reminded me that animals literally perceive time at a different speed than us. Some birds probably move jerkily like that because their perception is so sped up (though at a much smaller scale than Hellen was)

    • @ImSoSillyJustTheGoofiest
      @ImSoSillyJustTheGoofiest Год назад +48

      I once heard that since flies have ~3,000 lenses per eye they perceive time much slower which is why they’re able to avoid flyswatters so effectively.
      Went ahead and fact check this as I heard about that in elementary school. It seems perception of time is based off size as smaller creatures have faster metabolic rates and typically faster reflexes.

      The odd part is there's multiple aspects to what is perception of time. We found the language you speak natively impacts how you perceive time. Humans likely don't have consistent time perception either since there's a handful of diseases that mess with our internal clock. Etc
      It's fascinating

    The Glenmont story literally is one of my favorite stories, because it blurs the line of reality and science fiction. Officials actually considered using hallucinogenics to make prison sentences feel like lifetimes within minutes, creating a perception of being in prison forever even. Literally one of my biggest fears, and a whole other level of inhumane treatment and new war crimes.

      Prison sentence drugs?
      That reminds me of "The Thousand Year Stare" from a story in 2000 AD. Called "Savage".
      Volgans invade England, and they want scientists to study to make new weapons. So, they give them a drug called The Stare. Or, Thousand Year Stare. It makes a person's perception of time slower, and their thoughts faster.
      They find a team of scientists, who are all old men and women. At the beginning, they were young. But with the Stare drug, they aged rapidly, saying that they felt "so cold and so alone", with only their thoughts for company.
      It's a horrible thought. Being stuck in one's own head.

    What I love about this story(and the first part) is the amount of detail the author delves into and the true psychological horror behind it. You can actually imagine being still and barely moving as you try to get your body to work for days on end or spending a significant amount of time still, especially if you're in an uncomfortable position or with outside stimulants annoying you, and to others, its just a regular minute of time, no one to keep you entertained, even if you could move your body. @@coultersheppard2052 that's true but only applies to two-dimensional objects (or like a flat surface in real life). If you're in a room, the light bouncing off of the floor right under you has a _much_ shorter time to travel than the walls of the room, so if you can think at light speed, the light closest to you would disappear but you could still see the walls in the distance because the light hasn't disappeared yet. My point is that the entire room became dark instantly, so the difference in mental capacity for time is still nowhere near close to noticing the difference in light between objects right next to him and the light on the far side of the room.

    the first part of this story was definitely way more "cosmically" terrifying, but this was definitely very interesting, the moments after he sobered up, the awful reality of adjusting to regular time ❤ great narration

    This is right up there with borrasca for me. Incredibly well written and an amazing idea for a story. You can tell the author thought about this for a very long time to insert details that I wouldn't have personally thought about with a hyper brain. And as always, your narration was extremely well done. I can't imagine another narrator doing this as well as you did.

    This one was super well written. I decided to go out of my house (rare) to a nearby cafe on a rainy day and played this one as I sat to eat something hot and watch the rain. It was such a great pick for the mood of the day.
    This is also the first video of yours i listened to that has commentary. Hearing about what went on in the creative process with the sound and audio choices are really interesting, especially after listening to the finished product. Good job 😊😊
