“Acrylics are harder than oils”….I hear you! The other thing is I’ve noticed about oils, other than the texture you mentioned, is they seem to have a greater pigment load. They just seem more opaque. Thin layers of acrylic can be streaky but I can often get good coverage with oils in one layer.
Thank you so much for your new video. You have a clean organised palette , as expected, with all the gorgeous clean colours you mix . Another super painting too 👩🎨
Really nice presentation. A wrinkle to try: you can mix acrylic paints and mediums into water-mixable oils as perhaps a third layer lying between straight acrylic and full-on conventional oils. You don't lose the deep ("jewel-like", optically rich) effect of oils. Using acrylic mediums rather than pigmented acrylic paint for this 3rd type of oil & water mix can build physical texture or create interesting glazes. Is the acrylic + water-mixable mélange archival? Dunno. Don't care. I'm 82 and am unlikely to produce any museum or investment pieces.
Congratulations Colley! You have very interesting technique specially with those brushstrokes .I would like to ask you about the red large hog brush , which brand and where to buy! Would be nice to try them...... Thanks in advance.
Very interesting! How long do you wait after applying the acrylic paint before you use the oils? Would you describe your painting as mixed media or simply an oil painting?😅
Great video Colly!
Just started dabbling with this and i find it really useful for adjusting tonal value
Thanks for a good video.
Great video, thanks

Absolutely true Chris.
Just love the way you can make a simple scene so beautiful every time and the way you play with light.
So glad you started videos again ❤️
Thanks, plenty more to come.
Loved the grey look. Comes to all of us.
Perfect!!!!👏👏👏

Thanks again Margaret.
Best video so far Colley thank you would this technique work with gouache or dry watercolors?
I believe so, but I’m not 100% sure; might be best to ask your local art store for confirmation.
I love using oils over gouache on a watercolor canvas panel.
Nice suggestion. I use casein similar to your acrylic. Definitely enjoyed your video.
Excellent. You have inspired me to experiment with oil over acrylic. Thanks!
Best of luck!
Great video!!
Thanks.

I’ll definitely consider it Dave.
Wondered if you have separate different brushes for acrylics?
Sorry for the late reply, I use synthetic brushes for my acrylic paint (not hog hairs).
Congratulations Colley! You have very interesting technique specially with those brushstrokes .I would like to ask you about the red large hog brush , which brand and where to buy! Would be nice to try them...... Thanks in advance.
They’re Art Spectrum size 12, 1000F, long flat; they’re primarily only for sale in Australia.
Thanks. Colley! Curious how often you’re using the acrylic underpainting?
Not as often as I’d like, but I am aim to do it more often in future.
I got an email from Charlie. He said he'd reach out about having you on the show.
Sounds great, looking forward to it.

I’d consider it just an Oil Painting; waiting on the acrylic to dry before applying oils.
Wow very nice Painting Sir. I still always follow you channel. Oil colour can mix with water ?
No, you do the water base first, and then apply oils.
