    For one of England's most successful match anglers of all time I've always felt Sean flew a bit under the radar. Great angler, great interview. Btw Kilbirnie Loch is in Ayrshire.

    The angling trust taking a cut of any sponsorship could be part of the reason “small” sponsors don’t come forward, just a thought

    Brilliant Matt and Sean - proper angler. On the subject of sponsorship I don't think big companies will buy in unless there is more TV coverage, Social media is OK but not the same as mainstream tele.
    Angling needs to consider how similar working class sports gets a high profile - darts for example, TV - big money and a circus atmosphere.

    Tobacco advertising/sponsorship of events was banned a while back hence why don’t see it on f1 cars or darts tournaments being sponsored by them. Thats the main reason why don’t see these companies backing the events else Fishomania would be sponsored by Embassy/Phillip Morris/etc

    A great angler Sean he brought back some great memories for myself was great listening to him also all sporting events that were sponsored by tobacco eg embassy were stopped embassy world darts, embassy pairs, embassy world snooker due to cigarettes being promoted which were seen as unhealthy so the government put an end to it.

    Should it be compulsory that to your fishing license incorporates membership to the Angling trust and that’s used to promote England and international events?

    Tobacco sponsorship was banned in the uk. Thats what killed events like the embassy pairs.
    The alcohol sponsors that backed angling all went to the wall.
    Surprises me that the car industry never got involved ... bear in mind the number of vans purchased by anglers. VW and Ford must do well in the UK from anglers ... although I think the time has passed for that now with the ridiculous push for electric vehicles.
    If you look at what products or brands benefit from angling sponsorship (like alcohol and tabacco sponsors did) there isnt anything.

    Your not going to get a commercial sponsorship like Adidas etc because angling is classed as a country sport. To many people on the outside disagree with angling so a company of such just would not take the gamble through fear of public back lash from certain groups. Best chances of a sponsorship deal would come from inside angling or possibly a beer manufacturer. Guru team England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    England Sponsorship.......... is there lessons to be learnt from the USA as their Bass fishing trophies seems to have taken it to another level?

  • @peterbr3736
    @peterbr3736 14 дней назад

    The problem with sponsorship of the England team as I see it is, all the individual team members are sponsored by and/or employed by leading tackle brands already.
    How about these companies cover a proportional amount of the costs themselves as they gain direct publicity from Team England's success?

  • @johnstead2584
    @johnstead2584 18 дней назад

    I would imagine a lot of big companies would stear clear of sponsoring fishing just because of this trend of anti blood sports, and like it or not fishing to a lot of people is classed as a blood sport .

  • @shitehawk1969
    @shitehawk1969 18 дней назад

    Trouble is Matt with sponsorship in angling is generally anyone who doesn't fish will not know that England is represented at world level and are unaware who any anglers are...my personal opinion is we need high profile faces who people recognise ie Jimmy bullard to name just one to promote angling otherwise really carnt see decent sponsorship sadly ever coming from outside the sport.

    Why on earth would a company like Nike or Reebok sponsor anything to do with fishing? They make nothing to do with fishing and are in no way marketed towards fishing.

    Fishing is the biggest participation sport in Britain. The potential for fishing and match anglers to be household names is immense. The ban on tobacco products being advertised probably hindered the growth of matches and events. I think one day a big brand outside of fishing will get involved and then the sky is the limit
