As a tuba player, the kid who never empties his valves is just a thing that happens to tubas because even when I empty my valves regularly there's just constantly water.
Yep, I remember when I was in high school band. There would be a growing puddle during concerts and we'd have to be careful how we got up when the performance was done.😂
My school doesn't have those metal stands, well we do but we only use them in the bleachers in marching season We have these other ones that I can't really describe, but they're better and I don't think you can bend them

That happened with a guy I like lol. He learned that sheet protectors work because before (or during idk I forgot) our concert, he dropped all of his papers. He uses plastic sheets now
I myself am a big person in a fairly small band room with a fairly small band, so I wouldn't have been able too anyway, but I did 2 year of trumpet and was in the process of learning trombone, so I knew the fingerings and could read bass cleff. and since we had a lot of newcomers I stood out as a good musician, so it really only sucks when you hear the bd talk to a specific person and have them play for like 5 minutes at least 3 times
I remember at the old school(they built a decked out new school last summer) all the stands were really old and bad and they squeaked badly. So there was this one stand that thing you could hear down the hallway it was loud and one of my band mates made it his pride possession and when the school got tared down he kept it 😂

Am I the only one who pretends to check their valves (or keys for the woodwinds) whenever I make a mistake? At this point it’s a habit to pretend there is something wrong with my trumpet when I crack a note or play something wrong.

ok so for that perfect stand kid i relate bc half of the stand in my school are just tilting in a random direction, so i gotta find one, flip it over, screw it in, and see if it works well.
I started as a sax player so i could play “careless whisper” but i sat next to someone that was not helpful at all and sax wasn’t enjoyable so i joined flute but i couldn’t play so now i play trumpet.
We have a baritone second year who always has to drag over to the clarinet section to drag the best stand all the way back to his seat. While the baritone section has all of the French Horn stands 👍🏼
why do yall have lockers and separate rooms? in my school's band room we have shelves all along the room. if anyone wants to practice they do it in the main room with everyone else playing at the same time
Literally, the locker one lol. Thing is, at my school, they don't forget the combination, they forget HOW to do it, so I'm always the one to unlock their lockers for them 😭
in my school, the percussion is ALWAYS talking when the other instruments are tuning or if the director is working with the other instruments. i also might be a percussionist…. maybe…😅

I was the perfect stand kid. Granted I was also the show up 10 minutes early kid that you didn't mention, so I always found my perfect stand. It was middle school band so we shared the room with orchestra, just different times. Some Cello player always took my stand. I mean, do you know how hard it is to balance three reeds in a triangle on a bent stand?
We have this Christmas tradition in band called the white elephant and if you don’t know what that is it’s where everyone brings a gift then we go around taking what gift we want but the rule is you can only spend 5 dollars or less and it has to look expensive but really could be a penny even. So 7 years ago someone brought a brick for it and every year the brick is regifted that thing has been roaming the highschool for forever 😂
