We are running approximately 150 various Ubiquiti cameras across 3 campuses for about 6 years. Out of the 75 original G3-Flex's that we ordered in 2018, we have only had 3 fail. Can't wait for the new cameras this fall...

Agree the lack of a camera with a Starlight sensor for colour night vision is an omission.
Hope they do more integrations with protect and access. Would be good to have the doorbell open a lock.

I’ve paired my cameras with the floodlight, then using HomeAssistant i turn off the night vision when the floodlight turns on. So i get full colour when the light is on. Would be nice if UB built this in, but this works for me at the moment :)

@@dh-net that’s an ok solution. I saw a comment somewhere that UniFi is launching on ONViF Bridge. That would be amazing if they did as Protect is great software and would solve the issue of them not always having the right camera for the job.

It has improved greatly. My only complaints are there is significant lag when accessing a clip while the detection (motion, etc) is in progress and the AI thinks cats are people. It is startling when getting a notification of a person at your door at 3am when it’s only a cat.

Would love to consider Protect, but when our existing sites already have 30+ onvif compatible cameras, the lack of support makes it a non starter sadly.

Great video Willie. Timing is everything. I have a big camera job coming up in a few weeks. The customer wants an integrated doorbell cam, not Ring. Have been recently giving some thought to Protect, but I’m not 100% sold. Your excitement towards the product might have just tipped the scales a bit. Thanks for sharing.

We've actually had compliments from our local law enforcement when we supply video. That alone is a big tick in the protect column for management here. We run 200+ camera's and are adding more. I suspect when we are done we will be up around 300. Worth noting, the stacking is only available on the UNVR models and you can only stack 2 of these units. It would be nice if all camera's would auto balance across the NVR to spread loading. I've found that this needs to be done manually. There also isn't any failover with stacking. So may only offer limited use.

Nice video, Willie! I have 14 cameras around my property and really like it. The ONLY issue I'm running into consistently isn't a camera problem, it's getting motion detections to show up on my UTP-Touch phone's camera display. If my phone boots up, it will show motion events at the top of the screen. Eventually, they stop updating. A reboot of the phone fixes the problem. Not sure if anyone else is reporting it and haven't really seen anything mentioned on the UI forums. The issue has persisted across several firmware updates. No mention of this issue in the release notes.

One of the biggest drawbacks with UI Protect is still the inability to create multiple user accounts linked to the same Protect instance/UDM so that other family members or employees can access it. Synology Surveillance Station can do multiple user accounts with their own permissions.

    • @WillieHowe
      @WillieHowe  Месяц назад +2

Technically you can with Protect it just doesn't look like Synology.

Yes you can, I have 3 sites with protect installs and each has different people with different access levels for each person. I can even choose which cameras they can access at different sites. They can then customize what alerts they receive for each camera.

I've spent the last couple of days re-looking all over the Unifi Protect user interface, and even the Unifi Console user interface. Cannot find any options anywhere for user accounts. Google doesn't find any instructions either, plenty of people online also complaining about no ability to have multiple user accounts linked to the same Unifi installation. So where are you looking to find these options?

Great video Willie, solid coverage of the product. It's great to see Ubiquiti progressing over the years. But 2 things I fear are huge issues with the Unifi Protect line:
    1. Their NVRs - if one appliance dies (not just a drive failure) then you've lost everything on that appliance. You can't readily do component replacements like a regular server, or do offsite backup to your own storage. Therefore they are NOT enterprise grade. SMB at best, but then when it comes time when you actually need to provide evidence of a crime and you aren't aware your NVR has failed... you're hooped. You have to monitor these things constantly and budget NVR replacement at the drop of a hat after warranty ends... but even in warranty unless you subscribe to Ubiquiti's new Support service it's email support ONLY. NOT enterprise grade.
    2. The lack of ability to wire in the AIO Sensor is a complete miss. I hate dealing with batteries and they're such a waste. Should have been at least a POE option.

In the video I saw of Ubiquiti speaking at a conference earlier this month, the changes they are making are geared towards better support for enterprise customers. _(Note that I am certainly _*_not_*_ an enterprise customer!)_ This includes paid-support for enterprise-level customers who *want* to have a higher level of support. But they also emphasized that they are still quite happy with their current business model of selling and supporting equipment without requiring any subscription fees.

Need to see offsite backups to self-administered storage servers in this next. In the current ecosystem you are mostly stuck storing the video on a single CloudKey or stacked NVR set. There needs to be a way to mirror the video on more servers, especially offsite.

I have no complaints about pricing and I think ubiquiti is pretty far ahead of the game in video surveillance. My only complaint is lack of backup/redundancy and I’m surprised that this doesn’t get covered more. I found the stacking feature to be a major disappointment because of the fact that its only configuration is expansion and not failover. If ubiquiti allowed for mirrored footage and configuration between two NVRs that could fail over I would by a second UNVR instantly.

They actually have a snooze function, at least within Apple IOS; I can't speak to Android. Swipe left on any motion notification, then select options. You will have options to mute for 1 hour or a day.

Great video Willie! I'm curious about the AI features from a privacy standpoint, not just with ubiquiti but in general. I'm assuming some of the optional AI features are processed on the cloud and not locally, and they collect at least some of our camera data.

All the new features are great and protect has come a long long way.
I was disappointed when I got an AI 360 and then when LPR became a feature it was not included on that camera, even though it is an AI series camera.
But my customers and myself continue to be baffled that there is no snooze feature for the alerts. As far as I know you have to shut off alerts for a camera if you don't want to be annoyed if there is activity happening in front of a camera that has alerts set up.
Ubiquiti, could we please have a snooze feature on the alerts?

The lack of color night vusion cameras when al the competition has them starting at $99 has become a major issue with prospective clients,
Also, still no bulk backup or download of footage in a non-proprietary format makes operational archiving/backuo a deal loser.
Opaque support with n acknowledgement of bugs let alone roadmap for fixes/upgrades means Protect will never be Enterprise or even Corporate compliant.
yes, it is a great home system for techies, hobbyists, and capable prosumers, but it could be so much more - just don't hold your breath waiting.
