    Hi Steve and PartSelect, My 85-year-old parents' fridge quit the day before Thanksgiving. I'm a single mom who can barely wield a screwdriver. But with my mother stressing over a costly repair, I took a look online. We had all zeroes flashing on the display, and the interior lights blinking on and off as other folks described, so figured it was the main control board. Found your video, ordered the part, and got the fridge running within the hour. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Never would have attempted it -- or even known to try, without your video. Way more satisfying than paying a big repair bill.

    Thank you, Steve!!! I was able to change my refrigerator's control board with your clear instructions. And yeah, it was an easy procedure. Just had a little trouble loosening the plugs. I did not have to wait for my husband to do it. I also want to thank the service technician who was so honest to tell me that I can actually do this myself and even offered a Part store where to buy the board. I actually saved $300 from the estimate the technician quoted. Great to have honest helpful people!

    Like many of the other people stated, the interior lights worked but the fridge and freezer were no longer cooling. It may or may not be related that I was also having on and off again problems with the in door water dispenser not working. I ordered the control board off Amazon yesterday, installed it today, and it works perfectly!

    Thanks so much. Fridge died and I was thinking we'd need to purchase a new one. A little searching found your video. Invested in a new board, which installed quickly and easily following your instructions. Fridge is working now (though, since this is a GE product, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!). Thanks again, and all the best for the new year.

    Appliance repairmen came to my home and diagnosed that I needed a new main control board, so I was happy to find your video and do it myself, saving me about half. However, once I installed the main board, there was no sound coming from my fridge until I pressed the Turbo Cool button. Then there seems to be some motor going. (More)

    I just replaced my main control board after figuring out it was behind why my water / ice dispenser was inoperable. I did some pricing and found that Ebay had the best price (the manufacturer wanted nearly 3 times the price I paid on Ebay for the same part). A quick review of this video made it extremely easy to replace the board. My only issue was the pegs that kept the board in place...they were a bit tough. Everything else fell into place and the dispenser works like a charm.

    Hi Andy,
    Thanks for your question and I'm sorry to hear about this! I would say it's likely that replacing the control board would resolve the issue, based on the limited information I have, and not being there to look at it myself. You can check its voltage first. You may find it helpful to search part # WR55X10942 on our website, where you'll find about 140 customer experiences (the problems with their refrigerators, repair tips, etc.) related to this specific part!

    Hi there,
    Thanks for your question! Unfortunately, the part number WR55X10942 is not compatible with your model. I would suggest checking for the appropriate part number with a local appliance repair company, and then searching for that online, like you mentioned.
    Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck in your search.

    Prior to replacing the board it was clicking for a week, then stopped getting cool. The fan was barely moving at all, so based on your diagnosis I assumed replace the motherboard. Well this helped the fan! It is turning full speed now but it is clicking away! Ugh... Can't tell if it is getting cool. Too soon to tell. I hope so!

    I had a similar problem and the solution is very easy! Just unplug the green ground wires from the old board (they are connected via a brass spade plug and pull off, maybe withe the help of pliers or tool to ease the plug off) and install them in place of the wires on the new board. Ta-da!

    I already tested the evaporator thermistor together the thermostat, food thermitors but they are all fine. Before we had defrost problem with our refrigerator, i just unplugged the AC cord to defrost the ice build up to the evaporator coil. I think my Control main board is the cause of the problem but I'm not sure because I didn't see any blown parts from the control main board. If i do have diagram for the main board i could check the voltage flow to the IC parts of the main board

    Thanks, great video! I've got the GE ets22xbmbrww that wasn't cooling properly and was told it was the board. Thanks to your instruction I was able to replace the board as shown, but now the compressor doesn't turn on at all. When I put the old board back in I can hear the compressor working right away. Bad new board? Interior lights still work with new board but that seems to be about it. Thanks!

    I really hate those boards.
    I get these refrigerators as scrap after they are 6yrs old. I would like to figure out how to re-wire it to by-pass the board using an old 70s fridge as an example.
    The defrost timer was a reliable mechanical timer & all of that stuff worked without a computer board.What mostly fails in these new fridges are the board components in a planned obsolescence, I say scrap the board& convert back to more reliable technology.Watch the youtube video The Light Bulb Conspiracy

    (part 2) But when I press the Turbo Cool setting, the temp reading on the right hand of the top panel seems to indicate an error. If I turn the Turbo Cool back off, it will give me a temp reading (right now 35). There is no display for the Custom Cool setting. It is blank. Is there something more I need to do to reset everything properly? GE Profile Model PSS26SHPASS. Thanks for your videos. What a great help!

    Thanks very informative. 5 months ago I had an appliance repair person replace the motherboard and took it with him. I protested, and was told I would have to pay an additional $50. Core charge. I think the timer may be bad again. Have you ever heard of a core charge?

    Steve - Great video. I live in the NE Sierra of California. We had a really bad wind storm today. The power went out and tried to come back on about 6-7 times before it was stable. Power interruptions are common here, as are power spikes caused by the autoreclosers. Today my GE 6 year old PSI23MGWA BV (LM415774) did not restart... it was clicking at about 1 second intervals and had zeros running across the displays. The interior lights would pulse with the clicking. I killed the breaker same problem. I pulled out the unit and pulled the plug for about 5 minutes, same problem. While looking online for troubleshooting data, the unit restarted. Troubleshooting seems to indicate the Main Control Board (MCB) failed. For about the past 18 months, the ice dispenser door has had problems. The door would open for a second or two, the ice would fall, then stop, the door would close. Retrying the process would result in a few more cubes. This problem does not surface with dispensing water and does not seem to be a problem with crushed ice, but I do not use crushed ice often. Sometimes when dispensing ice the above problem exists and the indicators on the door control panel dim. Do you think these issues are related to the MCB, too?

    • @LodgePoleLarry01
      @LodgePoleLarry01 10 лет назад

      A call to GE Customer service on Monday netted a new OE MCB for $65 plus tax and shipping for a total of $76.28. The board should be here Wednesday.

    Hello, I have a broken WR55X10156 board and I bought a wr55x10942 instead by mistake. It has everything the same except that the WR55X10156 has some pins (J15) where the compressor is connected and the wr55x10942 only has the solder on the board without those pins. If I solder the two pins from my old WR55X10156 to the new wr55x10942, would my refrigerator work? Since all the new board is the same as the old one (Except that)
    Thank you!!

  • @Nessalos
    @Nessalos 10 лет назад

    So thankful for your videos. The relay for the water and ice dispenser is not working all the time. Instead of replacing the entire board, I was wondering if you can just replace the relay? I think my husband is worried that he could then ruin the entire board soldering the new relay.

    • @partselect
      @partselect  10 лет назад

      Hi Vanessa,
      Sorry for the delay in my reply. I would not recommend an attempt to repair the control board. Most electronic circuit boards are sealed with a coating to protect from moisture and replacing components involves abnormal amounts of heat from soldering tools that usually damages the foil conductor or other components on the board. If the relay is defective, we would suggest to replace the complete control board. Good luck with your repair.

    I have tested the defrost thermostat, defrost heater (which appeared to be burned out because there was soot around the springs that i cleaned off but it still showed continuity,) I tested the evaporator fan via the control board as well as the control board itself and everything was showing the proper readings on the multimeter. The thermistors on the freezer side tested at about 15.30 ohms while the fresh food side read higher at almost 16 ohms. Would that be the culprit?

  • @dantesj12
    @dantesj12 11 лет назад

    Thank you for this instructional video. Out of curiosity, is there a way to buy those plastic mounting tabs and put in place? I'm about to replace my board for a wooing sound from the freezer section... which from many other testimonies seem to also be the cause of a faulty board.
    But my old board sits on only 1 tab. The others must have broken off from prior repairs done?

    I don't know if the compressor motor in my refrigerator has a capacitor but basically most of the compressor motor they use to have capacitor. There was no build up of ice on the evaporator coil because the air flow was warm in the freezer and refrigerator even though the refrigerator was running for 5 hours and ice maker didn't make ice. Let say the capacitor is broken but why my compressor motor is running?

    Experiencing an issue similar to SantoCastronovo on a GSL25XGWA. Front panel has one light on (water, crushed or cubes) but when you hit the dispenser all lights go off and won't dispense anything. Also tried unplugging for a while an it didn't work. Wondering if it is related to the main board or if there is something else inside the door that I should be looking at.

    Hi Steve... my model #GSS20IETA CC has a ground connecting to another green wire from to the fridge along with some other wires to the bottom connector. The new board has a ground system like this video and the wire is not long enough to reach the bottom area where I would screw it in. Question? Would I need to connect to the ground wire coming from the fridge like the old board or can I leave that out and find a way to make the new ground wire reach the hole at the bottom? Appreciate any input.

    Hi all, I recently had a refrig tech come to the house and diagnose the refrig. the refrigerator wasn't cooling. He said I need to replace the evaporator fan and the control board. I replaced those and the refrigerator is still not working. Any thoughts? Were there any tricks when replacing the board that I should be aware of?

    We have GE refrigerator side by side model # DSS25KSR. Its no longer cooling but the fan motor is running fine. There is no build up of ice in the evaporator coil. Do you think the mother board is the cause of the problem of my refrigerator. Kindly help solve my problem. Your reply would be appreciate!

    My fridge is now making the dreaded "click, click" noise, coming from the motherboard. I see the fan inside the freezer "start/stop" w/ each click. I've ordered a new replacement board- which will arrive in two days. Question: Do I keep the fridge plugged in, in hopes that it will keep cooling itself; or do I need to clean the food out and unplug it until I can replace the motherboard?

    Hi Steve,
    I am having trouble with model number GSH22JSTA SS. We had this fridge in storage for the past couple months, I believe a fuse blew. The inside lights are working, however the refrigerator does not get cold, it doesn't sound like it's running, and the control panel (that has the water/ice disp and temp control) does not turn on. It isn't under warranty and I am wondering if I buy this part and install myself if this might be the source of the issue. Please help!

    I have a GE frig model number PSW23RSWA ss. I recently replaced the mother board and evaporator fan. However, now the compressor will not come on. What are the possible reasons for this. Not sure if this model has a start capacitor. Thanks for any help.

    I have a GE Model #GSS25QGTB The temperature control settings are set to 0 for the freezer and 37 for the fridge but throughout the day the temperatures for both sides fluctuate on their own. The freezer side gets warm enough that the ice starts melting causing water to leak onto the floor. Any help would be a appreciated.

    Steve - before spending $$ on this part, how to you check to make sure this is what is broken? We have a GE PSS25SGNABS we bought used and it constantly freezes in the fridge and will not maintain a correct and constant temperature. It has the same problem with the freezer section as well, but that's not as bothersome since everything on that side is supposed to be frozen.

      I would test a few other parts first to make sure they are working properly before replacing the control board. Start with inspecting and testing the temperature sensors in the fridge and freezer to make sure they are working properly.As well, make sure the air damper is working (it allows cold air to pass from the freezer/fridge section and helps maintain the correct temperature) Locate the baffle/damper and operate the control knob to verify that the linkage is intact and that it moves freely. If the damper/baffle is stuck in the closed or nearly closed position or does not move freely, then it should be replaced. Next have a look at the defrost thermostat and the heater and test those parts to make sure both are working. Finally, the control board for signs of arcing, burnt connections or damaged foil. Remove power from the appliance before inspecting the control board. Is your fridge display any error codes? Hope this information helps.
