Hello Scott, thank you so much Sir for the time you put into your W204 LCD videos. I watched each several times, made the coat hanger tools and disassembled my entire C63AMG entertainment console in minutes. My display couldn't handle the Florida sun. I was hoping that it was just the elastomer on the LCD delaminating from the heat. I tore it apart and reseated the LCD, but still have the same messed up picture. Presently enjoying the hunt for a replacement display. My dealer wanted to replace the entire assembly for US $2,200 including 3, Three, yes 1, 2 , 3 hours labor for what you do in a 9 minute video. I really feel for the people who actually pay for that service. Again, Thank You......
+Rick Nelson Rick that's great news. I also feel sorry for the people who hand over large wads of cash to dealers. However they must not be thinking too deeply about what's going on. If you get a chance have a look at the new introduction video I made where i try to explain the tax effectiveness of doing these thing yourself. There's some good on board video footage to. It's about credibility as i do a few motorcycle videos and at least the viewers can see I know how to ride. Hi Scott. Camera is now in and working! So happy. I piggy-backed off the cig lighter via block connector. As a wireless system I cannot tell, picture is flawless. Turned out to be more work than first thought because of needing power both sides but im happy. And, of course, many thanks for your help! Couldnt have done it on my own. Look forward to your next mod ! :)

I removed the glove box. Easy access to ciggerette lighter. Pink cable (switched 12v so I believe) and brown (ground i believe). I dont think splicing them up will cause canbus errors so I am going to do that. HU is currently out and ive plugged and routed the cable through to the glove box area. Nearly there!

Update: New screen is in and looking beautiful! Line gone and very clear as its a new screen unlike old one which was cleaned with chemicals and blurry in comparison.
I did have some issues with the ribbon connection on the screen but resolved after a while. Just need to make sure contact is fully made and put the connection block on top of it to hold it in place. Be very careful an slow with the ribbon as its fragile to say the least.

I've have to the brake fluid flush and bleed shortly on the W204 C320CDI so that was going to be the next epic video.
ill give that a go thanks. it seems to be a loose connection because sometimes it all works fine and other times it doesnt link to the speedo cluster. ill let you know how I get on.
You've got me beaten on that one. I haven't heard of that issue. Do you think it may be something to do with the new LCD screen? I'm assuming the camera and LCD are all working as they should? You could try the old trick of disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.

Rear camera - I had a look behind the head unit for where I can connect positive and negative to but couldnt work it out. The back was easy because of your great how-to but front I am not sure where to tap into.

camera - could not work out where to tap into for 12v switched power and ground. Had a look bhind the HU the other day but couldnt work it out. Dont want to splice into something I am not sure about. Would appreciate any help! Thanks!!!

Says on a forum that the light in the glove box is switched so that may also be an option. Found that interesting as its easier to get to but not sure of its validity.
I can see all the comments at my end. The comments are publicly visible according to the settings.
The glove box light is switched to the key on and ignition position so that's an option. I've used that light in my W639 Vito for a switched power supply.
I to would stay away from the wiring behind the HU. I checked every wire there with my multimeter. The COMAND is switched by a control module so you don't want to risk damaging that. Stick with the cigar lighter socket or glove box light.
Is there a way to disable the automatic flip-up/down of the screen when you turn on/off the ignition?

Hi Mr Scott. I installed the camera and changed screen and now my command stuff sometimes shows in Speedo cluster sometimes doesn't. I have checked for loose cables but can't see something. Do you know what it may be? Thanks for this!
Thanks for the great videos. I may give the reversing camera a go at some point. I was just wondering whether you have had any cause to remove the long mesh inserts on top of the dashboard. One of them has a rattle in my car that I want to try and sort out but I am not sure how to remove them. Thanks for your kind words. I have removed the rear mesh grilles but not the front. I'd be confident the front grilles clip into place. Use a plastic trim tool or a knife with some heat shrink tubing on it to gently prise upwards and see if it comes out. The trim tool kit is a really handy thing to have. You can get them off eBay out of HK for less than $10. Kind regards Scott.
MrScott52 Thanks Scott. I have since read on a forum that you need to first remove the trim from the A pillar. This allows the mesh grills on the dash to move sideways (towards the doors) - I guess they must use clips that slot in from the side, not up / down. I am going to go ahead and buy a set of trim tools as you suggest as I will need them to remove the trim on the A pillar. Something like this: goo.gl/yfihVj Also just watched your ATF video. Do you need adaption after changing to the LCD screen from conventional 5"inch original screen? My current 204 is the small 5"inch screen and planning to install this bigger LCD screen to support Video in via interface for my MIRROR LINK project.

Great tutorial. Do you think it's possible to swap the lcd assembly to a touch screen one? It may not be possible though since there's no USB input in the rear. Unless the USB media interface cable can be used for this? What are your thoughts?
Thanks Jim ... I think to convert to a touch screen would be a very complex project and require different software. Maybe some others with more knowledge on the subject could chime in.
No usb input as you say. There's a product called Kivic One that mirrors your iPad onto the MB display so that's an option.
Maybe MB have avoided the touchscreen from a safety point of view. It's easier to control things from the console knob while driving than fiddling with a touchscreen.

I do have a central lock module problem I guess for the same car, as the key keep forgetting the program and it doesn't work from far, and I did check the key with the professional guy, and he said its fine and the problem could be from the door module, so I was wondering if you have faced same problem or any videos about it

+Adam EL Masri Adam that sounds like a software problem. I haven't had any issues with mine so far. Try to find an independent service centre with the STAR software. That will show any fault codes. The door module may only need a reset. Regards, Scott

Thanks mate. You can get them from Aliexpress. To be safe you need to get the screen out and find the part number on the back to make sure they send you the correct item.

+Edmond Medina Edmond if it's the pre face lift model it should be the same. The flip up screen is only with the COMAND system with the navigation etc.

My C300 radio cover is stuck in service position. I was driving and was working fine. When i got home and parked the car, i noticed the cover would not close.
And stayed stuck in the service position. Do you think it can be a blown fuse? Everything works, but the cover will not close all the way.
It's not possible for me to know. It doesn't sound like a fuse as it must be getting power. In cases like this I use a process of elimination. If that doesn't work I'd take it out and dismantle hoping I'll find the problem.
Hi! Thanks for the videos. Do you know where the screen takes power from? I have change the screen but its still blank. If you put bright light against the screen you barely see whats happening in the screen?! Everything else is normal, the mechanism is working and radio also.... only the screen is blank...
Petteri. You'll need to use your multi meter to discover the power feed. It appears power must be present or the other mechanisms wouldn't work.

Was the CCFL inverter broken ? Is it backside of the display module in the circuit board ? Did you get your system to work ? It appears that my friend has a similar issue with the display.
Petteri Laine when I'm driving my car and then the radio adjust get ready and cut off the command system and say command system is shutting down and it'll just go off and the radio was working and then it'll shut down and it'll come back up stop back again stay for about a minute and then go back down and go in and flip back up again what is causing that problem I change the amplifier but thank you
Petteri Laine sorry that I did not speak that right my command system and my car is a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 300 the radio can be playing just fine then the command system of come across the screen and say the command system is shutting down then it'll go down and it'll come back up and then it does that repeatedly can you tell me what is going wrong with the command system
Before Ordering a Replacement LCD Screen, be aware when Shopping on Line, there is a LB070WV1 and LB070WV3 model Screens from LG. My 2008 C300 W204 was a LB070WV1(TD)(01)

The Mercedes part number for my car is A 204 820 46 97 9F45. Use this site to find the right part number for your specific vehicle. www.partsouq.com. Search on Aliexpress for W204 monitor as they sell the replacement LCD screens ... but you'll need to remove yours first to get the actual LCD part number on the back to ensure you order the correct item.

I want ask i buy a Flip Up screen and the unit too and in my c200 Mercedes 2008 w204 in is the little screen. Does the cables are the same for puting in the new unit and in the Flip Up screen ?
The conversion is very difficult and costly as the cabling and software is different to the standard C200 system. Besides it's old technology so don't waste your money.

I have a problem that the screen would not respond to opening/closing commands and when it opens randomly it will just be black and not display anything. Beside this the whole Audio/Voice system works fine. Could it be because of the 2 Fuses behind the LCD screen?

I have a w204 ,2007 model and the lcd monitor got black out.I order a new one ,i installed it as you shown but i still have the same problem.I cceck all the cablew,the power but everything are ok. Before the monitor black out it was getting too much hot and stopped illuminating for 5 minutes and after starts alone, but one day stops and never starts.That was the reason i bought a nev monitor.I think the problem is on the board behind the screen .What is your opinion ? It sounds like the problem is with the circuit board. You would not be able to purchase a new one from Mercedes as they only sell complete assemblies.
first thing would be to take the car to an independent workshop with the STAR system who can plug it in and read the fault codes and do the tests available in the STAR system. You may be able to reset the control unit.
Then I think you have two options ... try to get the board repaired by an electronic technician as it may be a simple component that needs replacing or buy a used monitor/display assembly from a breaking yard on eBay or online.
I can't think of any other solutions. Someone else reading this may have some ideas. Good luck and I hope you can get it repaired without too much expense.

Mr Scott thank you for your advice.i sent the board to a qualified electronic technitian and he repair it,It starts work for 3 days.... Yesterday it stops again and i found out that the fuse behind the monitor 5A was burned..I changed it and it starts working again but i don't know how long time......what is you your opinion .?

It is probably ok now. If the fuse keeps burning out then there must still be a problem. See what happens you may have fixed it now.

Curtis Shelton yes there is a 5 amp fuse from memory so that's good place to start. I think it's on the circuit board from memory. Someone else hopefully will know. scott
Hi Scott, My Comand's problem is the lid won't come up. Tried changing fuses, battery disconnecting/connecting and restarting everything. Nothing helps to get de cover lift up. Any ideas ? Best greetings from Fryslan - Sjaak
Hi. If you remove the unit there's an unlocking switch so you'll be able to flip the screen up.

I have a MB w204 C class Avangard of 2007, Originally I had in the car the small screen and did not have the navigation system, so I bought the NTG4 with Screen 7 "and with navigation, everything works, but I can not get the screen to open, which may be happening?

So you took it out then it got stuck? There's a manual release latch on top at the rear. Have a look and you'll find it. The unit may have failed as they don't last forever. They're old technology and a pain these days so don't waste you time with it. TheQue360 If you read through the comments this topic comes up often. It's usually the LCD screen or the backlight fluorescent tube. Search eBay for "Mercedes W204 LCD"

my command screen won't come up in my c350. the radio and cd player still work, I use the controls on the steering wheel to change channels. it was working fine, and I turned the car off to go into a restaurant, come back out and it come come back up. not even the button will work. do you have any idea what this could be, could it be a fuse?
+Lisa Johnson ... Lisa it's difficult to say. The fuse is the first place to start. The fuse card is normally in the spear carrier. If the fuses are ok it will mean plugging it into the STAR diagnostic system to see the fault codes. Try to find an independent repairer with the software.

Hi Curtis. It's a process of elimination and retracing your steps to find the fault. I had no problems removing and reinstalling the flip up assembly as shown. If the screen is not displaying then it appears to be a connection issue. I'm sorry I can't be more specific but retrace the steps you went through and make sure everything is connected as before. Can i upgrade the smaller one to this flip sceen please? My 2007 C220Cdi avantgarde came with small one, and i really want the bigger screen. Is it possible?
It's possible but difficult and expensive for what is very old technology. There are too many modules to change and recode ... it's not a matter of changing the screen.

Is there a way to make the pop up display stay in the open position?
Yes. You remove the unit and there's an unlock lever that disengages the flipping mechanism. Look through the comments as I've described it before.

Hey Mr. Scott, I'm having an issue with my COMAND Display this morning as it was really cold in Perth last night (11.5 degrees) and the display just shows a white screen and flickers after start up. At the moment it still stays that way. Any reccommendation on what to do next as I am not confident enough to do DIY like you did, or maybe there is a shop that I could pay a visit to. Cheers

It will cost a lot of money for labour to have it replaced and I doubt the Mercedes dealer would do it as they will only change out full assembly's.

@@ailhamtiara Yes it would be. Just google "car stereo perth" and you'll find an audio installer who should be able to remove the old unit and install an android plug and play system. Don't bother replacing the screen as it will cost you more than a new unit. Remember you pay around $150 to $180 per hour for labour these days and it doesn't take long to accrue several hours. Also you end up paying for the time they need to learn what to do on an unfamiliar car. You might have to get them to watch the video if they're not familiar with the W204 Mercedes.

Was working fine last night but this morning its just white and like flickers but not black like most of these comments I could still see whats on it its just as if the good ol' loose VGA connection. Shaun yvettete Thiara Shaun the only way I know of is a reset using Xentry DAS ...aka ... STAR diagnosis system. If it's not opening it's possible there's an issue with the mechanical mechanism. The only way to check that is to pull it out and dismantle to check nothing is broken. Scott

Hello Scott, I’ve got the same screen and I’m having an issue with it. The problem is that it won’t slide up and down. It’s stuck half way. I’m happy to keep the same screen but just want it to work normally. It decides to work suddenly at random times but most of the time it is just stuck midway. Any rough ideas of what might be going on by any chance?
Hi Dre ... no I can't diagnose from afar but it's a common problem if you peruse the comments. You can lock the screen in the open position. Remove the unit and on the back there's a little sliding unlock/lock switch that will disengage the open/close mechanism.

i have a such an annoying issue with my car Mercedes c200 2010. in cold temps the screen goes white. drive it for a bit it starts flickering. vertical coloured lines come on screen and then eventually flicks and becomes normal. it has just hit summer now and yesterday same thing happened. screen never came back on. today went to my car. still the same issue and will not fix itself. ive always had the issue in winter but now its happen in hot weather and the screen completely wont fix.....i spoke to Mercedes and they said 500$ for them to look at the car and they said they have only had problems with flickering and never seen my problem. i checked merc forms and so many people talk about the same problem and have replaced the screen but its still having issues.........so not sure if i should take everything out and buy a screen or give it to merc so they can see if they can fix it.....theres literally been no solution and i dont know what to do......

Hello, Scott. I'm having a problem with my display: it's black. It folds up and down, the music/radio whatever works fine, but the display won't lit on. Previously, the display would turn off and on randomly for few seconds, but this time it won't turn on anymore. Any ideas on what could be the cause? Thanks.
Horatiu. It may be the LCD screen has failed. You can buy a new or used LG screen on eBay reasonably cheaply.

MrScott52 thank you for your reply. just noticed that the display works, only the light is off. Checked with a flashlight and I can see the writing on the screen. Any thoughts on this?

MrScott52 thank you. I hoped it would be something my electrician could work out, like a bulb or something, as the display would take around a month to reach me. Also, is there any video that shows how to pull out the comand monitor from the dashboard? I saw the other video of yours, but you only pull out the cd changer and the a/c control. Did I not watch carefully enough?
Horatiu R. Horatiu. This video shows you how to remove the screen from the assembly. Once out there's a few screws on the back to undo to pull out the actual LCD. I don't show the whole process but you should be able to work it out as it's straight forward. The LCD unplugs from the printed circuit board. Regards, Scott
After the display went out, I finally cut my losses and sold my 08 C300. Great fucking ride but not worth the hassle of fixing something every couple months. Will only be leasing Mercedes from now on.
They certainly require maintenance due to the planned obsolescence built into so many components.
@@ScottElliott152 Bought it for 7k with 90k miles back in 2016. Great "deal" at the time, and I gave it no thought why these German cars depreciate so quickly. Over the next 3 years, I sunk in another 3k to fix/replace the intake manifold, power steering fluid reservoir, lights, parasitic battery drain, an unfixable oil leak, etc. Yet I couldn't give the car up because the ride was simply too enjoyable. Great comfort in the seats (I have lower back issues so this was amazing), a dead quiet ride even on the highway, and handled like a dream. Once the display went out, I cut my losses. Leasing a Mercedes is really the only realistic option these days.

I don't understand your question.
If you mean the Harman Kardon sound system that's the factory fitted multi media. It's now very out of date and difficult to retro fit. I'd buy the Chinese Android 10.25" screen head unit you see on eBay or AliExpress. Very affordable and they get good reviews. Do some searching for the w204 Mercedes.

Hi Scott, You make hard work of that when all you need to do is pull Fuse 11 out of the fuse box when it is in the service position as you call it, You don't even need to remove the housing from the dash it take about 3 mins to do it that way then repair the screen refit and replace the fuse. Don't forget Fuse 11 it is next to the green relay under the bonnet drivers side fuse box. Richard Bennett i have replaced my screen and my screen is still dark. I have performed many steps and still no positive results. The local dealer quoted me $1800 to $2000 for a replacement but I don't believe I need a new unit. How can I check to see if it is the command unit and not the display screen? Thanks

You've got me beaten on that one. I haven't heard of that issue. Do you think it may be something to do with the new LCD screen? I'm assuming the camera and LCD are all working as they should? You could try the old trick of disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.
