Thanks Matt, I spend far to much on the next new shoes but always have floatrides in my rotation as there always surprise me to how good they are. Just picked on the 5th version for £45 which is unbelievable value.
Wow! £45 is a lotto win!
Great info on the shoes, Matt! I ran in Reeboks a lot in my early years of running, with the British flag logo, when running was their big thing. They were super comfortable, more nicely finished inside than other brands. But Reebok seemed to go looking for greener pastures, being the aerobics shoe and also Shaquille O'Neal's basketball shoe, and then occasionally, "Hey, we're back into running!" And that doesn't have much to do with these shoes which seem very solid and well priced, especially if there are regular sales and discounts. A couple of decades ago it would have been called a highly cushioned trainer and now it's almost minimalist. With running shoes being so specialized now, the general everyday trainer is an interesting niche to go for, but there's always a place for a shoe if it feels good to you for a decent chunk of your miles.
I remember Shaq’s shoes, but I didn’t have them. I did have another pair of regular Reebok pumps and I thought they were the bee’s knees of shoes! 🤣 I also had a pair of Hexalite with the visible hexagon air pocket. Compared with those, the Floatride Energy 5s are pretty simple!
@@its_Matt_B_ I ended up down a rabbit hole seeing what happened to the company since those glory days and found a fun fact: Shaq owns Reebok now. Or at least he's a key figure and major shareholder in ABG, which purchased it from Adidas a couple of years ago. I hope he does well with it.
@@largeeddie 🤣 I’m laughing because I fell down that same rabbit hole!
I still have the first version with me and it's now version 5!
Are you still running in V1? How have they held up over the years?
Pretty much spot on with the review with my initial thoughts. Firm ride, hard to put on/take out, and about those shoe laces? Lol
I don’t know if I’m getting used to slightly firmer shoes because I’ve been running in more recently, but I’m growing to enjoy them more than I have in the past.
One thing I’m not growing to enjoy is little baby laces. 🤣
Thx Matt for another comprehensive review. As much as I would love to add another Boston shoe company into my rotation, I don't know where this one would fit in. By chance, are you planning to review the new Topo Phantom 2? Just asking. Cheers.
Yeah, I get it. We can only run in so many shoes at one time! Still, the price is right!
As much as I’d like to, I don’t plan on reviewing any Topo shoes anytime soon. I’ve reached out to Topo but haven’t had a response. 🤷🏻♂️
@@its_Matt_B_ Thx Matt.
I know I don’t need another pair of trainers however if these pop up on a discount you can be sure I’m buying them!!
It looks like you’ll be getting these; it seems like Reebok is always have extra sales! 🤣
Best value shoe ever. I have got some great deals on The Floatride shoes.
You’re not wrong! They’re already priced well but when they go on sale the price can be hard to believe! 💫
Thanks Matt, you, Eddy and Kofuzi gave the 5th version good score, but most running shoe website gave it preety bad score. It is really wired~
Cheers for watching,, Jack! Shoe reviews are a funny, and highly subjective, thing! It's easy to find fault with any shoe if you're expecting something and don't get it! Runners with wide feet or runners who only want a plush ride will not like this shoe, so I expect the reviewers giving it a bad rating fall into one of those two categories.
Hi Matt - great review! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’m hoping to buy a pair of Reeboks for running. I’m relatively new to it, so I don’t want to spend anything huge which is why I’m going for one of these more affordable Reebok models . I’m just wondering if you would recommend the floatride 4 over the 5? I initially thought the newer version would be better, but given the couple of design changes you mentioned, I’m just wondering would I be better off going for the floatride 4s? I do a lot of road running just for context. Thanks very much 😊
Hi! I didn't tun in version 4, but I did use version 3 a lot! I don't think the changes are anything you have to have and would say v4 would work just as well for you, especially if you can buy it for a better price!
In most cases I think it is usually better tobuy the previous model of a shoe to save money!
Great video thanks ! I've just ordered a pair for £38 seems like a bargain
I'm always amazed at the deals on Reebok shoes! Money well spent, mate!
Hi! Now I'm choosing between 3 pairs of shoes that got big discounts. Supernova 2, Supernova+ and Floatride 5. I'm just a beginner runner and I want to choose my first pair.
After looking at the reviews, it seemed to me that Adidas is aimed at slower but more “plush” running, is that true? Should I, as a beginner, focus on models with stronger shock absorption?
And in general, what do you think about my choice? The price of the models I have chosen is now less than 60 usd....
Hi! Congrats on starting your running journey! It's not true that Adidas is aimed at more plush running. Most companies have a range of models that cover every type of running shoe (from very soft to firm) and suited to different types of running.
If you're set on one of these three, the very best course of action is to buy all three, wear them around the house to test how the y feel, and return the pairs that's aren't as good. The number one rule with running shoes is comfort; if your feet are comfortable, you will be a happier runner.
Good luck! Check back in and LMK what you choose!
I think the problem are the laces. I noticed this with Floatride Energy 4. Very hard to put on.
Yeah, I get that. Especially when comparing them to other daily trainers!
I have managed to get these for £45 - although not sure if they will be going back as I do not have narrow feet 😢 - will give them a go and see how I get on
I'm constantly amazed at the price of Reeboks in the UK! Good score! But even a good deal becomes bad when you can't use them! LMK how they fit!
I received them and they are too narrow as I could not even get them on lol 😂
@@marklanghorn9220 Wow! They really are narrow! Oh well. On the bright side you have an extra £45 in your pocket! 🤷🏻♂️
Rebook Floatride Energy is one of the best deals for a daily trainer in the market. Almost no innovation in the shoe allows Rebook keep the production costs low. However, I don't think this shoe really needed X plate for tortional support. The foam is not that soft to need a stiffening element just like Energy X didn't need a forefoot carbon plate. I think the previous version (v4) was a better version for being lighter than this one. Incidentally, all the versions since v2 have been heavier. v4 lost some weight over v3 but now we gained back some.
BTW, last year I found an unused v2 in Ross for $35. Black colorway is suitable for me to take it to work. I am mostly using that pair as a causal shoe since I have so many other options for running.
I've heard of so many people scoring good finds at Ross, but whenever I go in there is nothing good in any size! You're right about v5 not needing the X-plate. It immediately struck me as a marketing gimmick. Even so, you're right about them being the best deals for daily trainers available!
Had the 3, laces were the only downside, just bought the 5 for £36!
The prices of Reebok in the UK never cease to amaze me! What a deal!
jealous of all the comments of people buying these for 35 GBP or so, trying to buy these but seem to be out of stock everywhere in the UK. only ones available in my size are from third party websites charging like 60 GBP + shipping for an ugly colourway, I went for the Pegasus 40 instead for 60 GBP as I think they look better and both seem to be good beginner shoes
You made a good choice going with the Pegs. They really are a good all-rounder.
So if I wear size 11 I should get 10.5
Yes, that would work.
45 quid on Reebok atm. Why not!
I will never get over how cheap Reebok is in the U.K.! 💰 What a deal!
