Thank you so much for making these videos. I got surprised with 2 babies under 2. I never really knew if I wanted to be a mom or not then bam I got two back to back. I’ve lived a very hard life of physical, sexual, and mental abuse/ trauma since I was two years old. So I never knew if I wanted children because of my own issues and I honestly don’t know how to mother children let alone babies. It’s been a huge journey and learning process for me. I just learned that my toddlers issues are coming from screen time. Unfortunately with me not having the just basic information on raising children they have been in front of a screen their whole life. Now it has only been educational things. So my almost 3yr old started reading at 1yr old, can count almost up to 100, knows some Spanish, and just basically knows everything already a kindergarten if not first grader would know, he’s also almost writing. His sister almost 2 speaks a large vocabulary can read some and count already, knows her colors and animals… but I started noticing my children NEVER sleep properly. They are consistently getting up through out the night and have VERY short nap times. Their tantrums are very long and extremely heightened, and they can’t really make eye contact or hold little conversations or communicate with me like other children, and aren’t ready for potty training. I’ve learned this is because of the screen time they get. I feel absolutely terrible. But they are SO young I can reverse this and help them get where they need to be. Videos like this are helping me SO much with coming up with exciting, creative ideas to get my kids off the screen and have fun, interactive playtime that benefits them wholly. It also helps me. With all the trauma I’ve been through it’s been very hard to connect with my children in a way that allows me also to feel comfortable. Between your video and 3 others I already have about 33 ideas I am going to implement. It’ll take about 4-6weeks slowly detoxing my toddlers from the screen, but I know we are all going to enjoy the activities and connection that’s about to come. Aw I love videos like this! These tasks seem just within reach for us vs some of the things the older toddlers are up to. It can be (ie it is) hard work to Montessori at Home, but taking a step back and seeing how much they accomplish is so rewarding. Thank you for sharing! (Also happy to hear the age of understanding that messes do need to be cleaned and not just made larger is coming soon).
Yes, I think we’re in the sensitive period for order and Lucas is all about making sure things are as they should be. It makes for a great helper with cleaning! He is always pointing out when things are out of place! It is easy to get wrapped up in daily life, it is nice to take a step back and see all that they are accomplishing!

I loved this video! My daughter is about the same age (17 months). She also loves practical life activities and does not care for diaper changes! I love this age! Their little personalities really shine. I’m not sure I have tips on sleeping. He has just been amazing since day 1. My 3 year old *still* doesn’t sleep through the night 😣. I just got lucky with Lucas! He has slept through the night since 4 months, and the only thing I did differently it didn’t rush in every time he cried (but that was because I had a 2 year old and I was always busy) but I think he learned to self sooth a little. I’m not into cry it out, I never let him cry, but I never rushed in if he woke up, and he would often go back to sleep on his own.
@@TaraWilloughby I love this age too! Oh that's so nice he has always been a good sleeper! I'm so sorry your 3 year old still wakes up! I guess every baby really is different! When we have a second we are hoping that one will be the good sleeper 😂
I think because of the "passi"
Our 18 month old goes to bed at around 6-7pm (depending on how little he sleeps in day and what time he wakes in morning). He wakes for the first time usually between 9.30 - 10.30, then again at about 1, 3 and then for his wake up time (4.45am - 6.00pm). Super inconsistent. Get's very stressed in the night, screams from the second he wakes up. We've tried leaving him, we've tried timing, we've tried rocking to sleep, holding hand to sleep, just quietly whispering to go to sleep, we've tried feeding less before bed, more before bed, we've tried putting to bed earlier, we've tried putting to bed later. We've tried popping in and out during crying, we've tried picking up and putting down while crying. Nothing has worked. We see some of the other parents who's babies sleep through, or maybe wake once, and get so jealous of how much energy they must have! We just struggle everyday.

Thank you! Lucas is now 2 years old and is going to bed around 7:30pm. He still has 1 nap a day and sleeps through the night till 7am!

ive been watching montessori videos lately & little did iknow was already incorporating them before i even looked into montessori. most videos ihave seen my son already does most at 15 months old

I absolutely love this video my son is 20 months old now, I wish I could afford all these things to help my son develop, I watch this and genuinely feel like a terrible mum, I feel like I’m too overprotective, I’m saying no a lot and not knowing how to redirect correctly, he isn’t speaking at all yet which worries me I feel like I can’t communicate effectively too him, the tantrums have come on thick and fast and I certainly haven’t handled them well at all on many occasions I’ve just made them worse, you’re obviously doing an amazing job hats off to you although it makes me quite emotional how much I’ve clearly held him back

Yes, this is our day, but that doesn't mean we don't have meltdowns and bad days too. I just post our positives to give people inspiration, but never want to make anyone feel bad about their parenting. @@DaniBLove he’s doing a lot better with his words, obviously going off my original comment I thought it was going to be a long time till I heard him say anything but he now more or less knows how to say most colours, and many more words besides, he doesn’t really join words together yet apart from “one more” or “tick tock” but I’m so pleased. some of the words aren’t always clear but I know what he is saying so he can communicate that little bit more, he’s a huge fan of the word no unfortunately 😂 he still tests me daily with tantrums I’m still trying figure out how best to redirect etc we’ll get there I’m positive ☺️ thank you for asking x

I cannot wait to get to that stage where she can tell me what she wants. My daughter also just started daycare a month ago so I’m hoping words will follow soon. She just turned 18 months.

Love your house, playroom set up, your narration and how calm your children are! I've been wanting to do a similar routine with my 18 months son, however i find it difficult to keep his attention for more than 5 minutes on activity or at least keep him calm enough to stay (with me) in his play room and not be running around the house. Lol
If you have some tips to share on that i'd be really grateful!

18 months is a perfect time to focus on gross motor play! At this age children are exploring their capabilities and gross motor play is very important. I would follow their lead, and if he is only interested running around that is ok. Set up some gross motor activities for him inside or head outside to explore. There have been entire months where my children haven’t touched their shelf work because they are in a sensitive period for movement. The high chair is the stokke Tripp Trapp.

Nice video, your voice is very calming and your son is doing amazing !😇 My daughter is 17 months old and we try to do things the Montessori way as well, but I find it quite difficult as she doesn’t walk yet (but speak all the time !) Can you share any tips for a similar routine but with a non-walker please ? It would be very helpful. Thank you 😊
She will probably start walking before I get that video up 😆. Some babies are late walkers, my friend had a baby that didn’t walk until 19months. I would just follow her lead! Let her watch and if she wants to join in on anything try to make it accessible. At this age they really just want to do whatever you are doing!

Hi, not it was not the compression kind. It was screwed into the wall on one side and the other side we had a special railing mount that it was screwed in to. Hope that helps!

Thank you!! It is called the Tripp Trapp high chair from stokke. It grows with the child. Highchair-> toddler chair -> regular chair
You are doing a great job. How adorable the boys are. When did you start doing these activities ? When did the little one start to recognized or response? such as picking up his outfit? I have a 15 months old ( Adjusted) he can follow instructions but he does not do much yet.
I started as soon as he showed interest in picking out other things, like toys or books. I don’t think he understood that he was picking out his own outfits at first, but it just became a routine and eventually he caught on that he could pick out his own outfits!

Thank you! In this video I believe he was using the Colgate My First Toothbrush. We don’t have a specific one we use, I usually let the boys pick one out from target when we go. I have been on the lookout for a more eco-friendly option, but haven’t found one we love yet.

Okay, how do you get your baby to brush his teeth so well?!
I find that modeling tends to help! I will show them how I brush my teeth first, or if you have an older sibling that can help too. With my oldest son we had a very hard time getting him to brush his teeth, we found the Elmo brushing teeth song and would play that while we brushed.
Tips for brushing teeth??? My 18 m old always cries and refuses (always has since starting to try and implement brushing around a year old)
I start with showing them how I brush my teeth. Offer them a toothbrush to join along. You can even offer for them to brush your teeth. Teeth brushing is tricky because it’s something you have to do, but I try to give my child as much independence and options as I can. If they are still not receptive to that, I just explain that everyone has to brush their teeth, and explain what I will be doing. “I am going to put toothbpaste on the toothbrush, and then I will put it in your mouth and brush your teeth, just like you saw me do!” With my oldest son I found a video on RUclips about brushing teeth, and that seemed to help him. I would sometimes play the Elmo brushing teeth song. Just remember it is just a stage! Eventually you will get into a routine, but I know how hard it can be in the moment!

Hi, I was wondering if you ever have teeth brushing problems and whether you had any tips around it ? Our 18 month sometimes open wides beautifully like your LO but is however going through a stage of only being willing to do himself.
we’ve run into problems teeth brushing with both boys. With Lucas it helped when we all brushed our teeth together, and I told him the dentists wants parents to check kids teeth after brushing. For my oldest he was a lot harder, we ended up finding an Elmo brushing teeth song and would either sing it or let him watch the song on my phone. Didn’t love that route, but it wasn’t forever and it worked with him!

How did you teach him to just pick one option (when he was getting dressed) because whenever I give my 19 month old options she always tries to pick both 😂🤦🏻♀️
Hmm, I just talked through the options. “Today we have a blue shirt or green shirt, would you like to wear the blue or the green?” It’s probably just a repetition thing. They are probably just not connecting that choosing a shirt = the shirt they get to wear for the day. At some point it will click. Until then I’d continue giving the option and making the choice yourself until they understand. I would just continue to talk through my thought process “you pointed at both the green and blue shirts, I’m going to put the green shirt on you today”.

How did you get him to sleep thru the night. Did you sleep train. I still bf my 17 month old and she wakes hourly in the night, never slept more than 3 hours. I would never leave her to cry tho so sleep training isn’t for me but I would love some tips (unless he’s a naturally great sleeper lol) x
Lucas has always been a naturally good sleeper. I just got very luck with him. We never did any sleep training with him and he began sleeping through the night on his own. I did a lot of baby wearing and he slept on me for much of his nap time as an infant, not sure if that had anything to do with it. I think it was more his personality. On the other hand, I have a 4 year old that still doesn’t sleep through the night and we tried everything (including cry it out which I would not recommend, it only made things worse). I think some kids just sleep and some don’t. Sending support because I totally understand and wish I could give you the magic formula 😆
My son is 16 m and will not let me brush his teeth. How did you get him to let you do it? He will happily chew on it on his own but wont let me brush.
I’m getting this question a lot! Brushing teeth together as a family helped with Lucas. And I told him the dentist wants all parents to check kids teeth after. My entire life doesn't revolve around everything I do with my son 24/7. Like..
How do you get anything accomplished if you're only parenting every second that they are awake?
I don’t! This video is just a snapshot of our life. My children go to preschool so I can get things done, but I invite them to help out with cleaning or cooking when I can. Often they say no and choose to play instead. My husband is also great at making sure I get breaks just for me during the week so I don’t get burnt out.
Did he started talking?
Lucas is talking so much now! His speech has really blossomed since turning two and I think him starting school a couple mornings a week has helped as well!

What time does he fall asleep?
He is two now and sleeps from 8pm to 7/8am. At 18 months he was sleeping from 7pm-7am.
But this is your second baby though, the second child will learn faster coz he/ she learns from his/ her sibling. How about your first child?
When you have the second child, you will do everything what suit with the first child typically! *justsaying

How many words can he speak at this age ?
I never really tracked Lucas’ words. He verbal pretty early on and around 2 years was putting together sentences (which was very different than my first child).

I don't really get what's Montessori about it.. helping your children to do things on their own is a normal thing, isn' it, both for the children and the parents? For me, this kind of life seems totally normal.
Montessori is more than just teaching your children to do things on their own. It's tailoring the environment to your child's size and interests. So, for example, everything is accessible and child height. The child gets to pick and choose what they wear, read, play with, etc. But of course that does not mean that they don't have boundaries. Of course there are boundaries, but they're within reason.
I agree that this can be done in any home! Lots of people all over the world have never heard of the term “Montessori”, but they parent very similarly. Montessori began as an education style, and only later in life did Maria Montessori talk about the Montessori home. So I agree, this way of life could be very normal for some. I would say in the US it is not as normal to give children independence and treat them with respect.
@@TaraWilloughby I also wondered what’s so special about it, but I guess in Germany children normally grow up very independent. Depending on where in Germany children live, they go to school on their own (with friends their age) starting age six. And stuff like that. It is completely normal to see an eight year old using the metro to get to school alone. That probably would be unheard of in the US
@@Izanuela22 yes, exactly this. It is very uncommon in the US, but seems to be more common in other countries. The kids in the US are at a disadvantage, they are typically not given much independence or respect from adults.
True, but European countries are smaller than the US. Most children in Poland for example can walk to school whereas most children in the US either need to be driven there or need to take a schoolbus

Choosing their own clothes at this age?
Yes! In Montessori we often give children freedom where we can. One of the things my son enjoys is picking out his outfit. At this age it is important to limit the options, but for him it was a task that he enjoyed and took pride in :)

He does! Lucas started speaking pretty early on. He is now 3 and has a very large vocabulary
