I've only used Lerway Qi with receiver pad for my S3. The price $ 28.99 on Amazon. Works well , through my case and charges fast. The only time that I timed the charging was when I let my battery get down to less than 10% , and four hours later iy was at 100% ! I am charging it now while I'm using my phone.

Plus I can charge other phones from its USB port.

Ghost 100 model PW-150 is only one I've tried that will charge my Droid Maxx while its wearing its Otter Defender case. The additional gap introduced by the case causes a problem with other chargers. I would like to see this considered in future review..

Wireless Charging is a bit of a misnomer. There's still a cable with one end plugged into a power adaptor and the other end plugged into the induction pad.
What this tech should be called is "Inductive Charging"

+Bernard Manansala The industry itself calls it "wireless". Let's not split hairs. Anytime you don't have to plug a damn cable in your phone, it's charging wirelesly. Did you think the charger would just beam 120v of electricity into itself from the AC outlet?

    • @arachnodev

If you could rapid charge with Qi wireless chargers than it would be more relevant. They're still standard output as a standard wall charger. I do like the TLYT Vu though. Just wish it had like 2.1 Amp output

I personally prefer using the nexus orb charger that came out with the n4. It's sleek and sits on a45 degree angle perfect for using our simply setting your phone as a desk clock. I use it religiously and I know some ppl have had complaints about their phones sliding off that's easily avoided by simply using a damp cloth once on a while to clean off any dusk build up. I've had it over a year now and never had an issue. Used it on my nexus 4, nexus 7 (2013) and now my nexus 5. Works flawlessly.

The rule with cases: the thicker the case or material the less it works, to where the case is so thick the phone or tablet will not charge. I have found that most cases act as a barrier to charging.
So it really depends on the case you are using. With my phones, those thick gel cases act as too thick a barrier. Can't use wireless charging. Ditto with most metal cases. These low-powered chargers cannot penetrate the metal case, even thing cases.
The reason for charging problems is that most plastic, rubber, or gel material acts as an insulator, too effective actually, that's why they use rubber or plastic on electric cords, for example.
Note: You have to keep in mind compatibility of your case with that Tylt charging pad. A case may not sit properly on the angled pad, to get a charging "signal."
Bonus Tip: I use a frame case to get around these limitations. A frame case is simply metal, plastic or rubber that outlines the phone, like a picture frame. This leaves the back of the phone exposed so the receiver inside the phone can get the charging signal from the transmitter.
While it may seem that a frame case leaves the back of the phone exposed to damage, if your phone has a removable battery cover (like the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones) an OEM replacement cover is about $8 to $10. So when ready to sell the phone, buy a new cover and advertise the back of the phone as scratch free.

I enjoy my LugaLake wireless charger. It can also hold a charge for use away from am A/C source. LED's indicate power level and it doesn't get hot. It's just a little larger than my Optimus G Pro with a case on. I tried two POWERQI chargers and they both get unacceptably hot. I think I'll give that Tylt charger a try.

Hi thank you very much for the useful tutorial. quick question - I was wandering if there is a wireless portable power charger or at least a 'power bank' which could be used to power my phone whilst on the go. I have a sony experia z3 mounted on my bike handlebar and use it to perform thinks like GPS, tracker, miles, speed (mph), estimated calories burnt. if you have a suggestion i would very much appreciate that. great tutorial by the way. so far i think the most suitable wireless charger is the wireless QI charger which has a magentism feature or non-slip feature allowing the phone to stick to the base of the charging hub when tilting. however i do not beleive this would be ideal for mountain bike treking but for riding on roads or nearby footpaths.

I have the Panasonic QE-TM101-W charge pad. The unit works well and charges your device quickly. My only complaint is the the pad's led is bright, and at night it can be a problem as it illuminates the room while you are trying to sleep. However if you need a night light, this wireless charger is the one for you.

Nice review. I'd like to see how these chargers work with some of the more popular styles of cases. I think the thin Spigen Neo Hybrid car that my Nexus 5 lives in will probably work, but I don't want to spend $40-$50 and find out that I was wrong.

I like the RavPower one because it has so many features but uiltimately I got an OEM TYLT off of ebay for $49.95 just because I don't see myself needing to charge my phone too often at a place where I wouldn't be around power. Lets face it, most of the time your charging at your desk, some of the time you're charging in the car (and there it's easy to plug into a cigarette to USB) and that's generally about it. If you were someone who hiked or biked or spent long hours out of the office at airports and what not then the Rav might be very useful. But for most of us I think the TYLT outweighs the Rav, simply because you can operate the phone and look through things while it's charging, you don't have to hover over it. I have a feeling that all wireless chargers will soon be at 45dgs or better. It just simply makes sense. There's no reason not have the face of the phone pointed towards you.

1 problem with all wireless charging devices...you need to swap in a new backing making your phone thicker. What if you have a protective case like those from Otter? You'd need to take apart the case and then swap in the backing needed...charge...then reassemble the case.
If you don't use a protective case...and don't mind making your phone a little thicker...

I have a Incipio Ghost 100 Droid wireless charger to charge my Droid Maxx and it works really well but at times it does get a little irritating to have to make sure I have to perfectly position the phone on the charger in order to charge it. Besides that this charger does what it's suppose to do. This charger runs for 40$ on Verizon's website.

How to fix wireless charging? Nexus 7 2013. Is it the back cover? The internal hardware? It worked twice, and once it did after 30 seconds i lift it off and tried to see if it would still work but it didn't . I'm using the: "Anker Wireless Charger PowerPort Qi Wireless Charging Pad".
What i tried to do to fix it:
    1. I tried to clean it with a link free cloth that didn't work. There is some fingerprints on it that i don't know how to clean off.
    2. tried with NFC on and off
    3. Tried with case on and off
    4. tried landscape and portrait even though it's a circular charging pad.
Side note: Can someone confirm that size of the pad matters? I only have one.

Qi is an open standard which is why I prefer Qi, and yes it will work with other devices but Duracell makes a competing proprietary wireless charger called "Powermat". I don't think that's going to be good for anyone due to the lack of internal competition.

Do you also feel irritated when you charge your phone on the wireless charger and it keeps vibrating whenever you get a call? Apart from the irritating noise, this can also lead to your phone falling off (has happened to me once).
We had made an app specifically to ensure that this does not happen with users. The app automatically suppresses all vibrations on your phone as soon as your start charging it.
In case you are interested in trying the app, download it from Google Play by searching for Scratch Protector Pro

Nillkin Energy Stone, as long as it's on it some how it'll charge thanks to the three coil design in a small package....honestly can't believe you missed this one.

Great review Kevin. Only one fault, most of them won't be compatible with future curved phones with wireless charging capability (assuming curved phones take off)

That shouldn't be an issue since most phone don't even come with the capabilities to charge wirelessly. It's sad imo. I'm not sure if curved glass phones will take off though, but only time will tell. Thanks for the comment.

The Tech Ninja Yeh i like the facility to wirelessly charge, if the charger were to be bundled in, it would make them more attractive. Yeh bit sceptical myself about curved phones, not very pocket friendly!

Could you recommend me a wireless charger pad+stand for my OnePlus 3T? Please.

I have a Samsung wireless charger that I use with my Nexus 4. It works well, has a nice visible LED and was fairly inexpensive (actually I bought it because the box had been opened and returned and it was 40% off) I'd prefer a non-samsung brand, but it was cheap, and it does the job.

I've tried them all and the Nokia is the only one that works with my Verizon Note 3 and qi receiver. I don't use the Samsung backplate because the receiver I use works with all of my cases.

Hey man, I have a question about the note 3 receiver. Does the power input at the receiver vary according to different ones? I have a Palm receiver, but i dont think its a good idea to hook it up to my note 3.

I don't think the palm will hook up to the tabs of the note 3.

Living in a country in which "powerbanks" (look it up) are the people's most favorite portable charging method, I don't get how this method of wireless charging can be classified as "convenient".
    To each their own, though.

      maccajoe
Oh of course, I'd give it all the time in the world, Joe. What I'm saying is that I'm not quite sure that this method of wireless charging (i.e stationing a phone in a magnetic dock) is all that "convenient".
It's actually less convenient than doing it the usual way. At least with a cable I can pick it up and use the phone comfortably instead of this "ooh it's charging, let's use both our index fingers to awkwardly navigate" conundrum.
I'm all for new tech, of course. But the current(!) version of wireless charging reeks so much of big businesses using gimmicky features to drive up sales numbers, you'd be surprised that Apple hasn't done it yet, LOL.

Maulanna Maryunani For some it is more convenient because of cases or the phone itself. Any of the active type phones that have ports covered or cases like an otterbox defender that also have flaps that cover the micro usb spot this can be a godsend to not have to fight with pulling those out and can in fact extend the life of the flaps. Finally the eventual goal with wireless chargers is to have a room or whole house that by just being in the room or house your device would charge. So yeah give it time and you might find that it does become a very convenient idea.

threw up in my mouth a little when you said "a phone with an otterbox defender" but I guess you're right nevertheless.

Maulanna Maryunani For me in an office situation it would be very useful...the phone lies on the desk anyway and I don't put in the cable all the time...so actually putting it on a pad is done more quickly. So charging it goes almost unnoticed, when you're not using it.
I don't have an Otterbox Defender...but what's wrong with it? Seem like pretty good cases for what they do...or is it that you just don't like big cases?

Hello. How come the phone felt very warm when Charging ?

    • @ForgingMastered

Wireless charging uses induction, so really it's horribly inefficient. So a lot of heat goes to the device.

Galaxy s3 is capable of wireless charging, however it does not have the receiver coil out of the box. Samsung was going to release a back that you could install that enables wireless charging. but i haven't seen it yet, and probably never will. on the upside. you can buy this and it will work... www.amazon.com/Samsung-Standard-Wireless-Charging-Receiver/dp/B00BCC2B1Q

The nokia got one with around 60 degree angle, for you to interact with your phone...
    The nokia DT-910
It is not so much different with the DT-900 you included, same spec, same small led indicator, and $10 more, but it gets the job done.
