Just landed on this channel . Here I am Authenticating your words by my experience as a hindu devotee. My sincere devotion made me connect with my God & I get response in many ways . It is more real than how we humans interact . Some times inner voice says a word loudly n flashes the meaning in mind faster than anything in the world , he gives a thought to seek exact answer thru a book nearby opening the exact page or thru s media etc , then he sends people to help my urgent need ( out of blue ) without me asking n being an introvert it's amazing strangers pop up to help . And many many exp that I wouldn't bet any human in place of him . His words are short & ultimate truth. & meanings flash in mind . He gives a flash in the mind when he is doing or sending someone, that it's me 🙏

FYI - 1. Hinduism is a term coined by the west. 2. We call ourselves hindu coz this has been propagated for the last 700+ years. 3. Hindus are not religious, they are Dharmic coz its not a religion. 4. We do not worship or pray... incorrect english translation of the word PUJA, which actually means reverence. and lastly 5. I am an American of European decent - no asian in me. But the Ishta Devata appeal has been with me for years. As many Hindus would know, the Ishta Devata can be selected based on the birth chart. However, Not all people select their Ishta Devata that way. In my case, I just fell in love with Skanda (also called Maruga, Kartikeya, Murugan, Subramanya depending on the region and the aspect of Skanda that people identify with). Skanda is the first son of Shiva, and brother of Genesha, so he has a pretty kick butt family! I am not sure what the scriptures may say about forming a relationship with a deity, but I will give you my experience from my everyday puja to and interaction with Skanda.
I see Skanda as my friend - he is a peer to me - not above me or below me. I have never thought a 'God' would need to be 'worshipped.' Loved and respected - yes - as we all would like to have that. The Puja are just gifts to Skanda - like bringing your best friend a bottle of juice or cold sparking water on a hot day. The experience of an Ishta Devata must unfold in a way that is unique to the individual. It is indeed a beautiful experience.

To make this simpler god is nothing but an energy that can creat anything and destroy everything. So expecting to see this is a very small thought. I am so pleased I found this channel. I learnt meditation quite young in my life, and as I got better at it, I found the things I read about the Hindu religion were the only things that made sense of my experiences. I have also always had a strong instinctual feeling that Hinduism was different from other religions, it is a trace of a much older and more profound religion that has some connection to a "mythical" time that we know very little about. That feeling is so strong in me I cannot explain it, it is not something I have learnt, its like something that was already in me. The way that Hinduism talks about the ages of man and other deep history is something I feel has been hidden from us, and Hinduism is the last reminant and link to that mythical past, Its like there are many forces in this world that try to stop us learning about our true history and our true nature. There are still many things I do not understand about Hinduism and this channel is spot on for me, I am learning so much. Thank you.

The KYBALLION gave me answers but without the reasoning (why) or the how, and I began a quest to figure out the how and the why, and this led me to the BHAGAVAD GITA. From that point on I was hooked, and I became connected to KRISHNA. Since then I’ve come to learn about the ATMAN/BRAHMAN and many other aspects of Hinduism as well as the TAO, but my connection to KRISHNA is always the first true Love. And as they got off the chariot after saying their prayers to Hanuman ji, the very chariot fell apart, and Krishna ji said to Arjuna that's the proof of Lord Hanuman presences. 🙏

Very well explained! Things get extended from this basic. Emphasis is to among many things to secure your own life and that that follows you, i.e. your kids. We have five generations to observe that sense. Grandparents, parents, self, kids and grandkids. These five generations of togetherness make one perfect his own and that of the next one. Life is also togetherness. many people simply feel life lonely, which results in many diseases. Emotionally secure living is bliss.
Your grandparents are respected in old age, parents are given care when they age, and kids are supported by grandparents. There are only advantages! I feel quite isolated living in Germany.

Thank you Jason for explaining how the Hindu god system works. Your information reminded me of the fact that God reaches the world with different descriptions and aspects according to the culture and knowledge of the people in question it is us who makes the barriers. The Masons have a book called "Morals And Dogma" which in the 28th degree explains how all the religions are God's way of reaching mankind and none of them disagree. Our misunderstanding separates us. The Christians have aspects of God as well. There is the Elohim, the Adonai and the El Shadai to name a few.
I will confess that I did not know to pick one because I did not fully understand being a westerner, so thank you. I did have a time I was with Shiva and he helped me with anger issues. He helped me to calm down not by yelling at me as the west does but by flowing with me through Tantra and I eventually calmed down.

Very fascinating. Now it makes sense why so many people worship a variety of different gods. I think this divine relationship aspect applies to all deities and saints from every culture because all deities, saints, and spirits are parts of Source/Ultimate Reality. Spirits can see your soul, it goes beyond culture, race, gender. Perhaps everyone has spirit guides/gods from all cultures guiding them. Even if enlightenment is not reached, the spirits and deities can provide guidance and a balance from being immersed in the material world/ego 100% of the time like most of us.

Gods in Hinduism are the personification of concepts and ideas.
Unlike other religions, Hinduism doesn't answer the question of "who" but "what".
God is a state in Hinduism and not an entity. There is no concept of hell and heaven in Hinduism, a soul either reincarnates or attains moksha (realising the ultimate truth thus liberating from the continuous cycle of death and rebirth).
Shiva the most powerful God in Hinduism, the source of entire reality is the personification of the idea of "not being into existence, 'nothingness', 'sunya' (zero), 'maun' (silence) or void.
Shiva has many names such as "Mahadev" (God of the Gods), "Mahakaal" ( the God of destruction and recreation, the God of death, or the eternal timekeeper). His consort is Goddess "Kali", 'Kali' derives from the word "kaal" which means time or death.
Hindu scriptures usually depict Shiva with a third eye and in a meditating posture. Shiva is usually worshipped in the form of "shiva linga" a symbol of his formless state, of his many forms "ardhnarishwar" is a union of "shiv" and "shakti" (an avatar of goddess Kali) a perfect balance of masculine and feminine.
The word "Shiva" translates to "that which is not or non-existent", the ultimate truth.
There are many levels to the truth in Hinduism, Shiva being the ultimate one, of many truths, the one universal divine consciousness experiencing reality as you and I are the most popular one, it's the philosophy of "Advaita Vedanta" or non-duality. "Aham Brahmasami," a popular "sutra" (formula) from Advaita Vedanta translates to 'I am the divine consciousness or the God', that I am the creator experiencing myself.

@@rockydj1000 There is a reason why Hinduism has all these symbolic Gods, the knowledge of the ultimate is depressing to the majority of people, how many people do you think will be at peace realising the fact that the reality is an illusion, that they don't exist, that there is no higher purpose to their existence.
The journey to the realisation of the ultimate truth in ancient times was a long one, a path that made people humble, so, by the time they reached it, they had no desires or emotions left, but in modern times where knowledge can be easily gained without putting much effort into it, and thus not realising its significance, which can be highly corrupting, an easy escape route from the consequence or guilt of own wrongdoings.

What do you think is the reason?
Ancient Indian Hindu sages knew that a time will come in the future when the ultimate truth will lose its significance and will become a reason for "Adharma" (non-righteous acts).
Hence Krishna was propagated as the main deity, Krishna symbolises Dharma, righteous living.

I appriciate your connection with sanathana dharma. Its Totally inspiring. Perhaps, I would like to highlight on the point that u mentioned "A perticular Devatha is given to a child". I hvnt come across this anywhere i live. Here childrens are educated on varirous devathas and their energy so that children can make their own choice on picking an ishta devatha. Also, a selected ishta devatha is not life long. It may also change as you realise the shot-term or Long-term goals of ur life. For eg as a child i was very much attached to Ganesh ji and his energy helped me very well during my education. Then once I started working, i got very much attached to Hanuman, where his energy helped me to work hard and remain celibate. Now, even though i am single i take care of my family and people around me as i have realised the truth of life. Now i worship Shiva a lot. Coz only his energy can help me escape the cycle of life and death. You got good info on kula devatha. Just an addition and the most facinating fact about the kula devatha is its energy can be quickly attracted only by the people who belong to that kula. For others it will take too much of hardwork.

Sanatana Dharma = Hinduism + Buddhism + Jainism + Sikhism
I do not understand why the WEST or the people living outside India, Nepal, Bhutan and Srilanka present it like a different religion.
Our core values were always same or you could say ...
You can easily find similarities in all the holy books of these above mentioned religions. The common thing found in all these holy books is to promote peace, protect the weak, help everyone, respect your teachers and elders respect the nature, animals and humanity.
Sanatana Dharma is not a religion. It's a way of living life. Different texts give different lists of the duties, but in general sanatana dharma consists of virtues such as honesty, refraining from injuring living beings, purity, goodwill, mercy, patience, forbearance, self-restraint, generosity, and asceticism.
There are many ways to get moksha, mukti, samsara ( liberation from the cycle of Death and Rebirth ).
Just like "Siddhartha or Gautam Buddha also known as Shakyamuni" followed one of many methods of Sanatana Dharma to get out from the cycle of Reincarnation. People those who followed him were called boddhis. When their strength or number of followers practicing the same method increased.
The West started calling them Buddhism.
Same thing happened with the other religion as well.
People living In this region that we call south asia, worship all the gods and goddesses found in Sanatana Dharma. But we do also have a family god / godess or guardian that we worship on special occasions. ( Kul Dev / Kul Devi / Isht Dev / Ishta Devata)
Let's make a Hypothetical situation with an example what Western Countries did:
My family god is shiva and my friends family god is Vishnu and someone else family god might be durga maa.
We live in a community where my whole community is of 100 people who worship shiva.
After 500 years the community population increased to 100k ( 1 lacs ) so will people start calling us Shivaism, Vishnuism and Durgaism?
We are always and will be forever be called the people who follow "Sanatana Dharma".
    That's it.
    Jai shree Ram
    Jai shree krishna
    Jai shree Buddha
    Jai shree Adinath
    Jai shree Mahavira
    Jai shree Waheguru
We are following the principle that were taught to us. We are following our Dharma. Not the today's meaning of Dharma (religion) but spiritual dharma ( Kartavya - duties, commitment, role, responsibility, obligations).
And yeah! Not only we worship gods, we also worship humans (parents, teachers & elders) animals, trees, mountains, rivers, sun, moon, planets, stars and Universe.
After all, sound of the Universe is Om, Aum, 🕉️.
    Scientifically proven.
Sanatana Dharma is not a religion. I'm saying this because a religion is always with a founder concept (a human figure). Sanatana Dharma does not have a founder. Nobody knows when and who started it. Only thing we know it is the oldest. We follow the teachings that was provided to us in Bhagwat Geeta, Ramayan, Mahabharat and the 4 Vedas and Upnishad.
You will find people practice multiple concepts in Sanatana Dharma.
    In Sanatana Dharma :-
    - people those who believe in multiple gods.
    - people those who believe in single god.
    - people those who believe there is no god.
    - people those who believe god is male.
    - people those who believe god is female.
    - people those who believe god is both half male and half female.
    - people those who believe in no god but understands the Universe follows the concept of karma and dharma. Everything is depended on the actions you took in your past life, that will affect your present and decide your future life.
    - people those who believe in no god but there is a supreme being that is guiding & protecting everything.
In the End, We All are Sanatani.

Good explanation, but let me add my two bits. When discussing Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, the indic religions, we always have to keep the end goal in mind. What is the end goal?. It's complete freedom or liberation of the Jiva( loosely translates to mind prana combination. There is no English word for this) from this material and mental universe. So in Hinduism, the progression is always from the form to the formless. We start with the worship of a form considered as sacred and divine and as the individual matures in his or her spritual outlook, they start progressing to more subtle aspects of worship and then to the formless. It's a progression. Each of these devathas are an aspect of the universal formless Brahman. Here anyone can chosee to worship his or her own istha devata according to their temparment and Sadhana.

As per Dwaita Darshan divinity ‘Ishwor’ is attribute-less. Because Ishwor creates the attributes. For ordinary people like us it is difficult to relate with such attribute-less divinity. Thus, Ishwor manifests as Devis \ Devatas (Goddesses \ Gods) with attributes as per human needs. For example - mother Laxmi for sustenance, mother Saraswoti for knowledge, mother Bhavani for protection, etc. How many? As many as human needs. It is up to individuals to believe, worship, relate to - any, all, or none.
Whole creation is divine. We all come from divinity and ultimately will return to divinity. Meanwhile, you may enjoy the world as is, or try to return (salvation) sooner by practicing Yogas.
By the way, Adwaita Darshan considers the world as we see ’Sansar’ is a reality, but not the ultimate reality ‘Brahman.’ Brahman is Ishwor. The Sanasar is also divine. Meanwhile, you may enjoy Sannsar as is, or try to shift (salvation) the framework from Sansar to Brahman sooner by practicing Yogas.

Hi there, just watched the video and umm, as a hindu i have some doubts about what you said. Lets start from the beginning. 'ishta-devata' in this term ishta means 'one who is worshipped' and devata means god. Which means the god you worship, it can be any god you worship and it would be called ishta devata. Unlike what you said in video that 'ishta-devata' refers to vishnu or shiva. No it means any and every god that you worship. Now on that note, lets talk about vishnu and shiva (and also brambha). In hinduism we believe that there is a natural energy flowing inside every being in this world. Brambha, vishnu and maheshwar(shiva) are the representation of that energy. Think of it like its water, brambha is the stable phase of that energy, creating new lives, living happily. Vishnu is the step where that energy accumulates to create the universe(essentially it is said that whatever reality is there that we humans can perceive is all happening in the dreams of vishnu.) And shiva is the phase of destruction, essentially bringing a mass extinction to this whole universe, resetting the universe.
Now the second thing i have problems with. The word 'bhakta' means devotee. Here is where hinduism is kind of difficult to understand. 'We do not worship out of fear, we worship to show gratitude.' you brought up the exact thing that makes all the difference 'moksha'. What you described is true. But i just want to add some more with it. We cannot achieve moksha when we are alive. Moksha means the state of perpetual happiness. In hinduism we strive to achieve moksha, but our connection to the 'mortal world' (yes because its all vishnu's imagination and it can break anytime) is what restricting us from achieving it. And until we achieve moksha, we would be reborn again and again, in different forms of life (bdw we can even be born as a rock or a tree or an ant, you get the point). Now understand this, it doesnt matter if you worship any particular devata(things discussed previously), moksha is same for everyone. And that is the wonderful aspect of hinduism i started loving once i grew old enough to understand dharma. Hindu gods are created by the society, for the society. Understand this thing, regardless of who you are, there is always a place for you in hinduism, hinduism doesnt ask you to devote yourself fully, it doesnt ask to fear, it just asks you to be who you are. There is no preferred way to live; you live/subscribe to the lifestyle you want. Cause ultimately you will die and reborn until you achieve moksha. Unlike christianity, there is no concept of sinner, but there is sin. Your sins are accumulated with you. (Just an example) if you have a huge sin hanging over your head when you die, in the next life, you may be born as an ant to be crushed under someones feet, thus getting rid of the sins you have accumulated, maybe that is not enough for your sins, so this may happen again. In mathemetical term, whatever we percieve is represented as 1, and moksha is represented as 0. Hinduism is the journey form 1 to 0.

Though I am a hindu and Hindus worship all Gods, I don't know why I am attracted to Lord Vishnu and his avatars. Shiva is the most worshiped God in India. You will find his temple everywhere. Vishnu temples are rare and also people worship him less compared to Shiva even I do. But still Vishnu ji fascinates me more. But at end of the talk, I respect and love both of them. When I hear stories about shiva and his sacrifices like he drank the Halahal poison when no one dared, I am drawn towards him and when I listen to the stories about Vishnu as to how many damn times he has taken avatar and suffered for us, draws me towards him.🙏🙏
    .
I request my Shaiva and Vaishnav brothers not to fight ever and respect both. They already don't fight, its just some stupids on the internet.🙏

I liked elements of these videos. But the first statement you make is kind of misleading. While, every individual is free to choose their own personal Gods, they still can worship other gods. For simplicity sake, we can imagine the Gods to be forms of energies; and connecting with any form is fine. But logically, if a person is of a very soft nature, they would ideally not worship a very fierce manifestation of Shiva or Mother Kali. The might not have the capacity to be able to work with fierce experiences that people may have.
Hinduism is a complex way of life where we interact with the ultimate divine energy, also called Paramaatma; with the help of instruments like "Pratimas" or idols & Mantras".
    Hari Om Tat Sat.

Let me tell you that many of us didn't know this exists as a tradition in India. Our high schools don't teach us about it a bit. Thanks for taking so much interest in our culture.

7:39 you mean it literally. When I chant Hanuman and Devi mantras, sometimes I can feel myself as them... At least their form. I'm sure with the rosary or in other practices, it's the same in those belief systems... Hell, I'm sure if people who can convince themselves that they're starseeds they can probably take the form of an alien.

Our ancestors say go to the temple and meditate, iff you understand the idols, they are consecrated energies that would help you in Dyana or meditation, Yogi's say you experience the ultimate reality through rising of energy. That's why we experience a rise in energy when we enter any concecrated temple.

I have been literally wondering this for the longest time. Like why people choose to be a devotee to one God instead of another. The way my brain works I thought it was an insult to pick one over the other.
So glad I found this video.

In Hinduism spirituality and critical thinking is more important than belief.
Without spirituality life would be empty.

Thanks for your educational visits. A sincere request to you is to check your pronunciation of Hindu words and god names. E.g. it’s not parvAti, it’s pArvati.
    Thank you for your effort.

There's only one God Brahmn but Brahmn cannot be worshipped directly, so Brahmn can be worshipped only with a reference limiting Brahmn.
