    “Caesar… weak.”
    “Koba… weaker.”
I love this simple exchange. Caesar isn’t denying he’s weak. This also goes back to how instead of getting mad at Koba, he blamed himself for trusting him. A true leader.

Also, when Caesar tells Koba he's weaker than him, he looks at the gun he's holding. That's the difference between the two. Unlike Koba, Caesar doesn't hide behind a weapon.

Well koba did discard the gun and fight Caesar hand to hand but what choice did he have? As Cesar said apes value strength above all else and if koba gunned down ceased In Front of all the other apes it would make him look weak and possibly make others confident enough to challenge him.

I like how Caesar is a chimpanzee and Koba is a bonobo: in nature, chimps are more aggressive and violent and bonobos are more placid and amicable. The fact that Caesar is then the hero and Koba the villain shows that when gifted with intelligence to know right and wrong, the concepts of violence and peace, of compassion and hatred, becomes entirely a personal choice. Despite being a naturally violent ape, Caesar chose good, and despite being a more peaceful species, Koba chose evil.

The irony about Koba’s character is that his hatred for humans made him end up becoming just like them. His character took a massive turn so much so that he broke ape laws, enslaved his own kind, and even killed his fellow apes. Through his hatred for the humans he ended up becoming more like the them than any of the other apes.

He became like specific humans. Keep in mind, the majority of the humans in the second film didn't do anything wrong and had no real goals against the apes beyond getting electricity to power tge town and call other humans (something they were happy to do peacefully).
Koba was the aggressor, oppressor, and betrayer whose goals were less about helping apes but causing as much harm as possible to humans.

I disagree with the notion that "anytime a bad guy is evil for the sake of being evil = poor villain". Some of the most memorable villains in history were evil for evil's sake. Emperor Palpatine, Emperor Zurg, Frieza, All For One, the Joker (depending on the version), Darkseid, Aku, Syndrome, Slade, and so on are all characters who don't have much reason to be villains, but are often entertaining in how much they relish in their villainy or how they affect the story and the characters around them. In Palpatine's case, his pure evil elevates Darth Vader's redemption, as while he was still an evil person himself, his fall was much more tragic and pitiable, especially when you consider much of it was manipulated by Palpatine. Pure evil villains have their place in pop culture, it's a gross oversimplification to chalk them up to bad writing.

It’s always been strange to me how it seems that only after Koba found out humans were still alive he seemingly descended back into madness. Like he seemed to be genuinely loyal to Caesar and saw him like a brother and was even a good friend to his son. We saw him grow to love Caesar and was very happy living in the village with his fellow apes. It’s like when he saw humans again his past came back to haunt him and he wanted to get rid of it once and for all and in doing so lost everything he had gained which was a family. He did things I don’t think he would’ve ever done if he hadn’t found out about the humans. His hatred for things done to him in the past was greater than the love he had gained in the future which is quite sad to see. Very amazing story writing and character development.

Koba's hatred of what humans did to him is completely valid, but turning his hate on people who had nothing to do with the torture that happened to him is where he went wrong. Yes sometimes we all have a hatred inside of us that we aren't fully able to let go of, but holding onto that resentment irrationally like Koba did in the end will only serve to poison us and make ourselves and the people we care about suffer.

Caesar's a badass. He's not just a great fighter, but a smart one. He's injured and not 100% strength, but still managed to turn most of the fight in his favour. He uses shields or stays just as reach of Koba's swings, letting Koba wear himself down and openly targets the wound he just got, hitting him there the moment it's open to attack.
Meanwhile, Koba's at full strength, but lets his rage blind him. He angrily lashes out and simply tries to attack Caesar without any thought or strategy. Kinda like how he started the war between apes and humans.

The “Koba… weaker” line isn’t just about the gun, but Koba being morally/psychologically weak.
It is a weak person that acts like Koba does. Out of selfish hatred and their own ego. It is a strong person that acts for the good of others and is willing to fight for it.
The gun represents that human-like sentiment of using power for selfish reasons and harming your own people for your own sake. Koba was more than happy to pick up the gun and become like his enemy. Ceaser was not. Many of the Apes were not. Apes who were also mistreated like Maurice were strong and compassionate, willing to let go of their pain and hatred.
Koba is weak because he is a slave to his own low base desires and impulses.

Koba believes Caesar is weak because he is unwilling to fight the humans. When in reality it makes Caesar a very wise leader. A good leader evaluates a situation and looks at all the alternatives and only chooses to fight if there is no other way. If you rush blindly into battle (like Koba) then you loose lives on both sides, which is what happened when Koba took over. Apes lost their lives to a war that could’ve been avoided if Koba hadn’t struck first. This is what Caesar was trying to tell Koba, if peace is an option than a good leader searches for it. War isn’t pretty and anyone who rushes blindly into it is a fool. Koba could have let go of his hatred, but instead he let rage guide him and let his past determine his fate.

He may have convinced all the apes about his concern for the humans harming them and may have even convinced himself. But at the end of the day it was his hatred for the humans and what they did to him personally is why he wanted to go to war with them. He manipulated all the apes into fighting for his cause and not for all apes. He legitimately believed he fought for the apes ( I would argue that until Caesar beat him up in the dam and the abandoned him even when they all agreed with him it was true, he did love his ape family and while he resented Caesar’s compassion for humans he tolerated it. But after Caesar beat him up, admittedly in a fight Koba provoked even if he didn’t throw the first hit, this stopped being true)

Koba was willingly shoving apes into a war that would've destroyed their own species, and not only broke their rules by murdering young apes that didn't want to go down his dogma of "hate humans", but also imprisoned those who where Caesar's friends and loyal followers. He was doing everything out of his own hatred and lust for revenge for humans.

I love how when Ceaser shows up, Koba doesn't try to play dumb and be all "Oh my God, Ceaser! You're alive!" Instead he's all like "Nah, fuck you Ceaser."
