Brilliant. I'm hoping I'll never need it but so good to have the basic idea of what's actually going on and if I ever need to troubleshoot I won't be quite so scared. Thank you very much Roger. Jim
Strange I couldn't get it to work but I'm using a NVCM6V2.1 board with TB6600. Don't have lights on board like you but motor locks up so it is holding.
Hi Roger, Just a couple of things I am confused about. I was under the impression that switch 4 on the stepper driver was to set the motor to half current when it was not moving and reduce heating. The other is I don't think the controller is a smooth stepper by Warp 9. Looking forward to seeing that monster machine in action. Cheers Dave.
very helpful vid...thanks for doing it. I am starting the design phase of building a large CNC using NEMA 23's or maybe 24's. After watching several videos on the subject, I am finding one very important piece of info being left out, and that is what is needed to wire up 4 stepper motors, 1 for Z, 1 for X, and 2 for Y. Since I have no desire to build a single motor CNC, can you direct me perhaps to a vid that shows what all I need for a 4 motor set-up?
Hello Roger. Thanks a lot for all the information you give away for free. I've watching your videos for days now. Why not you use a SMC 5-5-N on this awesome machine? Greetings from Portugal
Hello sir love from India What type of mach3 board u r using i mean which speed 100khz or 500khz or 2 MHz ....and why all motors are not close Loop type
@@rogerwebb9600 Thank you sir for your reply, I really appreciate you responding back. I didn't think it would but being knew to CNC I thought that it would be best to ask you. I just have windows 64 bit so i will have to find a breakout board that will work with Mach 4 on my 64 bit system. i was looking at Pokeys57cnc but I need to research more. Thanks again and i really like your videos.
Just putting this out there. I have a LABVOLT 5400 CNC Mill and I am trying to wire it into a Mach3 controller to control using my laptop. If anyone can help me out I am willing to pay a little bit so that I can get this project finished. I just need help with the wiring and setup of the controller.
Nice work, sir, But one question remains unanswered after listening carefully to your explanations. If the engine manufacturer specifies the value + and - of the wires, and you take this into account for the connection, how can I determine it without this information (from the fabicant). Thanks,
This video is an awesome simple example of what parts will drive the stepper motors. Thank you very much.
You are welcome!

Thank you so much for the information. Love from India 🇮🇳 ♥️
Glad it was helpful!
I am finding this super-helpful (I'm at 12:56) - thanks so much for posting! :D
Hey thanks for posting such a valuable knowledge.... M glad I found u r channel...
My pleasure 😊
thanks for the videos Roger, very keen to learn mach3 from you, you explain things well!
You are very welcome
Very nice explanation that will be helpful for many. Thank you.

Just needed the pinout and then worked fine.
Excellent information
Glad it was helpful!

Hi Roger thank you for this video..wil help me a lot..
You are very welcome Fred.
The only wire you didn't explain was the one with an eyelet going from the Smooth Stepper to something offscreen. Where is it going? Thank you
Thank you!
Thanks man really nice explanation... I wait next video to see about motor tuning in Mach3 cause "step per" is driving me crazy 😂🤦♂️
No worries
@orsa Adrian in the mill program there's a calculator/tool in there that will automate the steps per
Thanks a lot 😍💪🤗
Currently I am using dm542 and nema 17!
What pulse per revolution should I choose for nema17?
And does more pulse means more speed?
i have two motors for my y axis do you wirer to 2 staper drivers or 1 ? i have a novusun v2 4 axis Motion Control

Hi, I have 6 CNC machines ;-))
i use mach3 in 64 bit becasue if use usb you dint need 32 bit.
excellent

Will Mach4 controller program work with a Mach3 breakout board
No it will not, Mach 3 is 32 bit and Mach 4 is 64 bit

Hello... do you have link on the mach3 circuit board....
Ebay
Sir will test mach 3 without license
Yes, you can use up to 100 lines of gcode
