I like to know that with all the crap going on in the world and especially here in the U.S. that I can always go to your channel for a slice of happy memories and to put a smile on my face. Great video!
What an amazing machine the Speccy was ... In my opinion a engineering marvel of its time. So simple in design, with only the absolute basics for a computer to work, yet so complex in its operation. For countless people ( including me ) this humble small computer was their first contact with the world of computers, and for this we will always be grateful to Sir Clive Sinclair.
I did not. I distinctly recall fastidiously typing out some 'game' from a magazine one particularly rainy and wet weekend. It was supposed to be a racing game and the magazine art showed a cool looking pixelated version of a McClaren MP4. I thought THIS!!! This is going to be awesome...7 hours later and it was done. Pages and pages and pages had been typed out of this magazine. It didn't work...of course it didn't. Two more hours of rigorously checking through every line for errors later and finally, AT LAST!! it worked. You know what it was...a series of Xs spaced equally apart to form the road that scrolled down the screen and the car was O in the middle. x x x O x x x x x I have never, before or since, been more infuriated. I don't know what I expected, but it definitely was not that. That Spectrum only just survived by the skin of its teeth....
I have a Sinclair spectrum zx +2 with its grey joystick all in its box's with grey power pack and rf lead with some games, best times had on my dads big old wooden colour tv on the old kitchen table, due to having to share it with my older sister and wasn't aloud to have it on a desk in my bedroom. Keep up the good work on these videos as I do like the nostalgia it brings me.
My tape deck was a WH Smith branded one - basically that Ferguson one rebadged. Also an Alba and a Sony one later on before finally using my personal stereo
Have you tried on of those Arduino based devices which plays tap files rather than tapes. Or even something like divMMC which allows Speccy to read and write to SD card?
I lovethe look of the 48k Plus and Sinclair's original 128k. The keyboard really was comfortable. I thought Amstrad did a good job with their models though. I had the black Plus 2A model which was strangely incompatible with some games or missing in game music in others! I wonder why they went with grey for the original Plus 2?
+Dex Molly I think they wanted to make it appear different from the previous line... Yeah, Amstrad slapped their copyright name in the ROM, which put the addressing out on some games, hence incompatibility
I had a C64 but I watched thousands of ZX games pictures on magazines and I always wanted to play them, what I never got the chance until I found emulators. How is the sound of early games represented in the models with sound chip?
+Lord Alfajor The sound is the same, it just comes through the TV rather than a tinny little speaker. If a 128k game makes use of the sound chip, then you get that instead.
my +2 went the same way yours has with the missing play key. I dropped it on the floor from my wardrobe as a kid. needed a screwdriver to press play after that....ahh good times!
+Nostalgia Nerd lol I can't see how the play button is used more than play mate lol. do you still use the tape deck these days or have you rigged a mp3 player of some sort up to it?. I've seen loads of mods as you do with old systems. used to love playing renegade on it. not played the amstrad version but the spectrum is the best I've played. even beats the St and amiga in my opinion.
It was that Ferguson tape deck made me watch .... I can’t remember if I had one or it was a friend, but it was so cool. I have 3 speccys, but I’d trade any 2 for that tape deck 😂😂😂.
Hey, I have a question. I live in the US, and I was planning to do a video on ZX Spectrum.. But, I would like to have a recommendation on what model I should get. I already have the adapters to use it in the US, and all I need now is a ZX Spectrum model that'll bring the best out of the video.
+MCD456 The best Speccy by far is the Spectrum+ 128k.... It was the last model made by Sinclair, but incorporates the Yamaha sound chip, whilst still having the classic design of the + model. Only trouble is they go for quite a bit of cash
YES! first off im 3 beer into my first kid free night in a month and I get on youtube and boom baby, new to me anyway, NN vid. Ohhhhhhh Yeaaaaaaaa. Id say the obligatory crap about reporting back if the video is good but damn it all, we know its going to be great so why bother? hahahaha. love the channel man, keep it up.

+Bo88y Beretta And that's exactly why I make them myself! To escape all that crap :D... Thanks! Glad you appreciated it

+Greg Lyris Absolutely. I owe much gratitude to Sir Clive and his Sinclair team
Fantastic video. I loved writing programs on my Speccy back in the early 90's. I need to get a tape deck and cables to see if it still works.

I have exactly the same WHSmith tape player for my home computers. It's been really reliable.
Probably the most loved Speccy, the 48k.
Great video mate, love this little micro computer :o)

hey, my rf signal looks terrible and pressing any key doesen't work, i'm stuck in the first screen.
The best spectrum is +2, but I have a +, and it work today! That's amazing!
Namaste.
+Arnau Jess Nah, +128k all the way :D
128k+ is the definitive Speccy and eBay prices reveal just how in demand they are.
my +2 went the same way yours has with the missing play key. I dropped it on the floor from my wardrobe as a kid. needed a screwdriver to press play after that....ahh good times!
+Paul Wright Yep, same. You can still use it. Apparently the play key gets used more than the stop key. Apparently?

Had one as a young lad. After it broke it supplied rubbers for me and my brother for a year
+judgewest2000 Are we talking the UK meaning of Rubbers or American?
+Nostalgia Nerd naughty!!

+Nostalgia Nerd eh, I have enough money to go around. So it ain't a big problem. :P
I love the games for the thing, and I'd probably be less intent on calling it "Zee Ex", if Brits weren't so abrasively insistent that I don't.
+Andrew Vrba I heard PushinupRoses pronounce it like that the other day.... WHY I OUGHTTAA
It's Zed Ex... Learn some English in the colonies! 😉
Blimey. What happened to that +2!
+Dolphination I think the question is... What didn't happen to it!
YES! first off im 3 beer into my first kid free night in a month and I get on youtube and boom baby, new to me anyway, NN vid. Ohhhhhhh Yeaaaaaaaa. What
128K all the way!
Mum put me up for adoption because I was on the Spectrum...the autistic one.
FFS buy a tripod, you are making me sick
Sorry to nerd you, but that wasn't the 128k +
