- This was a first. Playing while it's still dark out. It's the only way I can deal with what's happening, as our charter of rights and freedoms erodes before our very eyes. Alcoholism runs in my family, killed my father, his father, but I'm glad that it has eluded me. Without the guitar, I'd be lost. I'm used to being alone most of my life, actually enjoy it, as playing an instrument demands it, but the complete lack of social contact from not even being able to play on the street is difficult to adjust to. So when I say I now play with total commitment of emotion and feeling and in the moment, you better believe it. This music is as pure as it's going to get for me.

The thing that strikes me most about your music is how many things you say without words. It's amazing how much can be shared with sound. No words needed, just music. This is why I just turned off the news and turned on the music. Music compresses so much into such a small duration of time. Though your solos are impressive, and they are oftentimes hours long or more, the real value is how much you've said in the intervening hours without having to say a single word yourself.
I agree. Music is its own language, going way beyond words.
@@shatnershairpiece Indeed. I listen to music with vocals but most often instrumentals. That way my mind is free to go wherever it wants without thoughts or meanings of the vocals clouding my brain.

If you would know my life story a little bit so far, deep valleys interspersed with perhaps slightly too high mountains; anyway. The words I wrote about this so-called 'old' jam came out spontaneously, without my full awareness! The melody is so compelling and therefore doesn't really need a beginning, middle or end. Your strength probably lies in the fact that you don't feel inhibited by your feelings, but instead use them to achieve something beautiful! You come across to me as a so-called 'Gentle Soul', perhaps a little too nice for this all too often superficial hard existence. Despite the fact that you may occasionally suffer from depression, you radiate a certain peace to the outside, Robin. You just have to think that you can pull a lot of people through with your inexhaustible musical creativity, after all music connects almost everyone! I added this to my sleep music list months ago and I still enjoy it every night. I said the timer on my computer to turn off in 60 minutes. I think it’s wild and crazy that you can hang out, way up high in that building and look at the city.

I think a lot of the people who don't think they're alone are even more alone in this world. The solitary ones who have such intense experiences as these - are we truly alone? When I think of the truly lonely people, I think of the people in positions of power who are surrounded by countless others - like on display in a golden carriage. Even if some of those people want to help, they are powerless to do so by their associations, but hopefully in the end those people thrust into public positions by fate will have the ability to choose the right thing. I also have alcoholism in my blood but dodged the bottle. Never been more glad to be alive.
I used to write a lot. I've had writers block, but the comments section of these videos is good a place as any to share these thoughts. Your music lubricates the art muscle, so to speak. :) I wonder how many other people out there who never comment or interact are carried on in this journey of life by these same sounds?

I’ve noticed that you’re doing your extended gorgeous solo with fingers, and no pick. Its one hour and 37 minutes long and did you use just your fingers the entire time? all your other video, such as when you’re playing on the street, are you only using your fingers as well?
Yes, I only use my fingers and thumb. Maybe 12 years ago I still used to use a pick and fingers, half and half, but I stopped doing that. It’s the same on the street. Very occasionally, I may use a pick on a jam to give my thumb a rest, but I’m not comfortable with a pick anymore.
