  • The foundation of a successful Diorama is dependent upon composition and balance. Trees can dictate the balance of a scene because they dominate the footprint.
    #diorama Comprehensive read of the Diorama and it's history: books.google.c...
    Composition is the catalyst that supports the story. It helps to direct the viewers eye in a natural way. The additional details and supporting subjects are there to reinforce the narrative. With this in view, the goal of a successful diorama is to evoke an emotional response, while telling a short story that is simple and to the point.

    Snipping the dowel to create old logs and forest floor material is truly inspiring Boomer, I will be most definately 'borrowing' that technique, of which you will get full credit, lol. Another excellent and incisive tutorial. Thanks for sharing. All the best. Brian @ The Angels

    I am so inspired by your art. Your modeling and creativity are literally spellbinding and every video is a jewel to be savored. Your philosophical approach to your three dimensional art yields one masterclass after another that can only inspire us viewers to advance our own modeling. I love the music you employ to enhance your video production. Thank you.

    What a wonderful presentation, but your giving away so many secrets! Question, if I wanted to make an old growth tree, something like your card tube tree but want to have a broken off top, how would you model that?

    • @boomerdiorama

      Revealing secrets makes the world a better place. 😉I would use a chunk of insulation foam, stuff it in the hole, hack it up, and then paint it with acrylic texture, then color. You could also use balsa wood as well.😁

    Thank you, it is great seeing how to do some of the things I have tried to accomplish over 15 years. I had the materials but couldn't quite get the results I wanted. Not many people using the material and concepts to talk too. I get a warm feeling mutual understanding watching your videos. Again, thank you for sharing your skills. Cheers

    I just love watching and listening to you work Boomer. You're like the Bob Ross of model making! (That's a compliment, by the way.) When you were painting the old growth tree at the end, you were using a mix of oil paints. Were you using water or mineral spirits to "wash" it?

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Год назад +1

      Mineral spirits. I only apply oil washes at the end over acrylics, never the other way around.

    My old boss would look at the competition's shop&if it was clean/tidey. He deemed it wasn't busy. Either buy it out or take a run on their customers&bankrupt it. Keep your bench messy😂

    Oh this was an excellent video, so much great content. Now I want to do deadfalls from dowels, but I just started scratch building some boat lifts! Remind me how you got the ropes to hang properly on the barge slip - did you just paint with matte medium, and apply some tension? Thanks so much for all you give - Bill. 🎋

    I live in BC as well - where do you get your supplies such as the matte medium, and molding paste? I have checked Amazon, but it seems pricey.....

    • @boomerdiorama

      I get mine at Opus Art Supply in Langley, B.C. I buy big jugs for 50.00. It lasts a long time especially when you thin it down for ground scenery.

      I do sketch sometimes, but they are nothing fancy. I break down the build into components and put it together over exhaustive trials and rehearsals until it clicks. ;-)

    Would Artist’s loft modeling paste work as a good replacement for the fiber paste? Having a bit of trouble finding a place that sells the fiber paste close to me.

    Boomer, does fiber paste work better when coating dowel roads if it has a little bit of water mixed with it. It is thick and difficult to get it to coat the rod.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Год назад +1

      Sure. Try adding some water. It takes a little getting used to but after some practice it begins to go well. I stab a blob onto the piece ant then start working it with a wet brush. Try and keep the brush wet if you can with a standing jar of water.

    • @boomerdiorama
