Well you already answered what I was going to posit, but I suspected the weakness of this episode was trying to tie the movie in with the show, assuming the movie happened between season 3 and 4. Finding out the movie comes much later really sorta kills that argument, so while I appreciate more mythology with the bounty hunter and the addition of the bees, really this has no reason to not be a much stronger episode.

    • @muldrake
      @muldrake 3 месяца назад +1

At that point they already knew a movies was gonna happen between s5 and s6, so they kinda needed to get their mythology storylines together so everything can culminate in the movie.

And boom, next week, a typical monster episode I still remember as a kid cause of how horrifying it was. That episode and a random episode staring T-1000 mulder replacement where a Native American monster ate his body to cure him of death. That concept just stuck with me. • @muldrake

They probably had to kill Jeremiah because he (or all of them) wasn't reliable anymore and there was a risk of exposing the project through him. Besides that, the Bounty Hunter is been sent by the colonizer-aliens, not the syndicate, this is the only time they kinda give him orders (i mean the last scene where he heals Mulders mother). I think they make arrangements and give information to the aliens, but they're not the supervisors of the Bounty hunter or the clones, otherwise they wouldn't need their own human assassins (not sure if your question about the sought-after healing abilities has been answered by this).
Yeah i agree 100%, killing X off so early was a bad decision. I mean he wasn't the most versatile character, he basically just did the same thing every time, but he was way cooler than Marita, who never achieved his toughness and credibility. I like how he was always a bit angry and strict with Mulder but saved his life at the same time. RIP.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you could actually shoot the actor, Brian Thompson, and it'd take him a while to notice, so, Scully trying to body check him is hysterical. Plus, she does know, at this point, that she can shoot the guy without any fear of killing him, so, why not? The alans don't usually just soak hits, so, one in the head, and whilst it's recovering, empty your weapon into it's neck. I think Scully's packing a Cigarette Sour so, there'd something like fifteen in the single magazine, I'm lightly to amazingly sure at a foot or two range you could behead a chap with sustained kabango.
I concur, no one normal could associate Scully going into Mulder's bedroom for some long hard X with a chap she barely knows, by that infamous waterbed, with anything sordid at all.
Ha, I'd forgot Mulder soaks himself in petrol. I mean, I do not know what threat level you have to have before that becomes a sane option. Giant shark eating your speedboat, didn't work out well. Especially when a flare gun is added. Bees? Bees? Bees don't like smoke, Mulderinocchio, so, what, you going to walk into a building and light up? Do a quick, what was his name, Quack Young Duck… Thich Quang Duc, oh, that was danged close, but, yeah. They say when your skin nerves are gone being on fire is relatively pleasant. I do not know who they asked about this, but I think it's worth pointing out that person was a loony.
When I was a young lad I had a wasps nest in my room. Whole year we shared that space. At any given point there'd be five, six wasps buzzing around. We had an agreement, it was unspoken, because, well, because they were wasps, their language skills are limited to say the least, but an understanding was reached. I didn't bother them, they didn't bother me. I'd leave a few drops of cola any time I had a can, and set it out on one end of the desk, and they'd thank me for this bounty by not arsing around where I was working. It went amazingly well. I found a new relationship with the buggers. I got stung exactly once, and that was when I stepped on one in barefeet. I had to agree, at the hastily arranged summit, that stinging me as I was accidently crushing the very life from it, was actually a fair and reasonable response. A treaty was signed, acknowledging the tragic incident, wherein the party of the first part agreed to consider floors to be inviolable terrain, and the party of the second part agreed that no further retaliation would occur, even if it did still hurt quite a bit. The next year they were gone, to a nest some other place. I hope they found a new peace, those fairly reasonable friends of mine. I mean, to be fair to them, they wear a warning sign as their whole body, it's not like they don't warn people about the pointy end.
But, bees? Bees are like that but all cuddly and chumsome. Wasps are the dry acidic wit of John Cleese, bees are the avuncular chortles of Terry Jones. Who gets wierded by bees? They vomit honey, for cryin' out loud, how good's that? That'd be like prawns absent mindedly cooking up a fantastic cheese-burger. What's not to like?
Petrol aftershave? Gimme a break, Muldini.
Scully has cracked, at least, the code of the tie. She knows what that means, that Pendrill is down for some hot X. Of course, knowing what's coming, my brain goes back to that thingy in B5 with Ivanova lamenting [SPOILER]
Those shots back to back what you did there, makes me wonder, did Scullicious start dressing as Sculdering Inferno immediately after the pilot? Because she's dressed as Clarice Explains It All Starling in the pilot. Dog snabbit I'm going to have to do a speed run of the first season, find out when she gets her own wardrobe.
I do not know how Mulder gets to Maria Corvidopotulonionamilliascastrovalvacorrobundumopulis from SRSG. I mean they're in Washington, everything is a damn acronym. Skinner Rarely Sips Gin. State Replenishment Security Group. Sorry, Raymond Shoots Good. Stay Ready, Silly Goose. Some Rascal Shot Guts. Submarines Removing Sunken Galleons. And, of course, what he probably actually meant, Scully's Really Sexy Girl.
On the plus side I have always liked Maria Catflaprubbermasseusealongbingbongoraveybarnstormtanktopulos.
I feel sure you know that general term for caring for groups of animals is called husbandry. But, I do like the image. Given all but one bee in the whole hive is a chap, that'd be a lot of weddings. Do you, Bee, take this Bee as your awful wedding drone? Zzzz!
Oh, come on, Maria (Sighs) Commandopotatochipsalsasaladburritomungojerrystupendonkeykongalullabyvalos is interesting, she's got the same smuldering as Scully. They don't do anything much with her, which I feel is a shame, but, there's at least as much potential as X. I mean I have nothing in my brain bank about X other than he's 'Exposition guy #2' Your milometer may vary closer than they appear.
It may be mildly interesting, I am sure it's a conscious decision, but, TXF always went for average looking people, except for the leads. I am told David Duconkers is lovely, not my cup of tea, personally. I mean, I can name the times they had piping ladies…
Mrs Kavite, Bambi, that one from that awful VR episode, Maria (I know, I made this bed) Contrapointediddlybopeepostentatiousllamatrippydiscolollapalluzodopeyitchyhappigilmorefragglerockoperabannedoctopus and, um, oh, that TXF fan agent in the episode about the monitor lizard man where Reyes goes blind.
Overall, though, yes, I agree, whilst important, this episode is just lining the ducks up, it's a skipisode.
'That woman' is Admiral Necheyev. The best Admiral. The only one who's annoyed by Picard's bullshit as much as I am.

I am also aware that if I only did this for TXF then by the time you've done every episode, I would have put down enough lettery things to make up a fairly large book.
I could have spoken about the time I accidently ordered two entire circusses for an event and had to find some amazing way to fit them both into the grounds of the school we'd technically thieved, but the wasp thing seemed more pertinent. The green blood is toxic, except when it comes out from the back of the neck, or the alien/clone/hybrid is dead. Then again, the ABH wasn't properly stabbed in this one (I mean, he didn't die, so Mulder didn't pierce him in the right spot)... so I don't know how to explain it. Maybe since they were outdoors, it was ventilated enough not to be harmful?

    • @muldrake

This is one of the big inconsistencies. The green blood of the alien rebels (see One Son/Two Fathers) is seemingly non-toxic (which could be explained with them not being infected with the alien virus). @pgmasterson1163 3 месяца назад

I don't know if this helps, but when I watched this episode I went back to other alien/bounty green blood episodes and I determined a theory.
I deduced that the base of the neck of the alien had a special "life-force gland" in which it regulated the blood and acted as defense. If the alien got damaged/hurt to where the skin was broken and their blood was exposed, the gland at the back of the neck sent an immediate "rapid defence response" signal to cause their blood to coagulate quickly, however to anyone around it (such as humans who weren't part of the same makeup) the act of this coagulation would cause a toxic byproduct that would act as a "defense mechanism" to those who were nearby.
However, due to the makeup, the gland at the base of the neck was vulnerable in itself. If that got damaged or pierced, it could not send the biomechanical signal defense mechanism within the blood, therefore it could not have the toxic side effect.
Although bare in mind during hybridisation experimentation, similar experiments may not work exact same way (Emily Sims comes to mind).

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently it wasn't in the exact right spot, to which I call bullshit.

From what i read Mulder just didn't hit the right spot, but yeah this whole thing is very incosistent. In season 8 Scully kills the Bounty Hunter with a precise shot in the neck (but according to earlier episodes you need a Stiletto to kill them, probably because it is made out of a special metal, maybe the magnetite that kills alien super soldiers in season 9). The essence of all those aliens is Purity, the alien virus. Well tbh, it is never really established what the true nature of the aliens is. According to Chris Carter's comments on the DVD sets, at first the ABH (alien bounty hunter) was a single alien, then he decided to make them a race (see the first episodes of season 8, the UFO scene). My personal theory is, they are either a closely related/very similar species of aliens or they are modified/cloned/hybridized grey aliens. We know that his "true face" (see episode Unnatural) is that of a grey alien, but we don't know if it's the exact same grey aliens (the colonizers) or if they are different species. We know for sure he is infected with the alien virus, because the alien rebels (who look identical to him, Thompson even plays one of them in Patient X, so they're probably the same species) have closed their face openings to not get infected with the black oil/alien virus. So either the ABH is kind of a bred assassin, a modified grey alien who can shapeshift into humans and therefore is perfectly suited for the job of monitoring the alien clones, or he is from a different species of grey aliens with shapeshift abilities that got sort of overtaken by the colonizer-grey alien with their alien virus (which is probably the more plausible theory, because of the later addition of alien rebels who seem to be the same species but managed to not get infected).

As the series progressed it made less and less sense and I was just waiting for them to resolve the series. I was kind of disappointed when they decided to keep the show going with season 6 as I wanted them to make more films.

That was the original idea. It was supposed to end at season 5 and then just be movies from there on out.

@JBSpookyReview Some episodes such as "Roadrunners" from season 8 could have benefited from the two hour run time and larger budget.

Laurie Holden got Scullyed. They took a younger actress and made her play an older character.

I was noticing how good she looked throughout as well. I was going to say something about it, but I've already had people complain that I'm objectifying her somehow lol.

I liked this one but I think X should have been around a bit longer, perhaps playing both sides against each other. I think he would have made a great ally/obstacle to Mulder and Scully that could have built up the tension more in the mythology. But on the other hand, Laurie Holden is easier on the eyes so there's that 😛
